      Largely because anything can be labeled a “pitbull”
      If it has a square head and chest people think it’s a “pitbull”
      The only dog breed that is a pitbull is the
      “American pitbull terrier” and than 30 some odd breeds who either have no ties to bull terrier ancestry or has been bred from the APBT mixing for the size/wrinkles etc.
      So tons of breeds and non-official breeds are labeled “pit Bull”
      They’re bred largely by incredibly irresponsible people who have no clue what they’re doing. No care for temperament, health issues, or knowledge of the breed traits they’re introducing
      Add most owners believe it ok and fun to allow their dogs to be destructive to toys (including small prey type), aggressive towards high pitched toys, allowed to indulge their prey-drive without proper training, exercise, routine and a proper outlet like bite work
      It’s a very perfect breeding ground for the behavior issues

      Any dog can be made vicious by a vicious owner, dogs are a mirror of how their owners treat them. Staffordshire Terriers (Pitbulls) are not aggressive by nature but have the ability to be very dangerous because of their genealogy. They are extremely energetic, every terrier is but it all comes down to the owners. If you leave any dog outside it’s entire life and never treat it well, it will respond like any wild animal in a prey vs predator situation. I have had “pitbulls” my entire life and have never experienced an attack on myself or anyone else because I love my pets, train, and socialize them.

      I am from a province in Canada where pit bull ownership was banned a long time ago. Existing pit bull owners were allowed to keep their dogs, but they had to be neutered / spayed and muzzled at all times in public.
      My ex was visiting his mom's friend - a very responsible woman who trained her dogs well - as they were taking a real estate course to get their brokers' licenses. He had been around her pit bull dozens and dozens of times, and was a strong advocate of the "It's not the pit bulls: it's the pit bull owners."
      Then one day he went to her house where he had been many times before, and the pit bull ran towards him. He thought it was coming to say hi. The next thing, an ambulance was bringing him to emergency to be treated to severe lacerations on his arms and legs.
      The city put down the pit bull within a couple of days.
      Now when pit bull owners tell me that their little darling pit bull has never bit anyone, I add, "...yet."
      These dogs were specifically selectively bred by humans to be dangerous and aggressive.

      He bit my brother in the side one time when we went over, leaving a nasty bite mark. Then he attacked my uncle who lived next door. My dad said we were not going to visit them again unless the dog was leashed when we arrived and left.
      Finally, my grandfather - who was a farmer and an uneducated foolish idiot who believed that his dogs could do no wrong - was on his tractor one day when that dog came, grabbed him, and ripped him off the tractor. He narrowly avoided injury from the tractor.

    I can’t stand these cases.
    Too many owners get big, powerful dogs with no knowledge and no desire to provide a proper life (training, consistent discipline and rules, breed appropriate exercise and mental stimulation)
    Take that it’s a “boxy” breed with no known lineage or genetic testing to say if it’s a ‘pit Bull’ or not.
    APBT was the “pit Bull” - but now any bulldog, large terrier, square headed & broadchested dog, mutt, or mastiff/pitbull/xl-xxl-pocket bully BS.
    Add that they never know the background, don’t know how to properly socialize, don’t know the inherited breed traits
    A WHOLE extra layer is added when the vast majority of owners allow their powerful dogs to indulge in destructive behaviors - destroying toys that are soft, resemble prey, and squeaky? Engaging in their chase drive w/o following up with proper commands to stop it.
    No knowledge of how to engage in bite work or teach bite inhibition.
    Until there is some kind of regulation of the breeding of dogs the problem will continue. It’s very similar to the downfall of the Dalmatian

      Most dog breeds were developed with a specific task in mind; and a whole lot of breeds were created for very dangerous, fatal tasks
      The switch to “aesthetics” over function has caused so much harm; and most owners don’t know any better - most think treats, toys, and the sofa is the best of care.
      It’s sad that some really beautiful, ancient breeds are getting the death sentence for doing what they were designed to do; for not naturally following human ethics 🤦‍♀️

    • @alexlibby5087
      @alexlibby5087 2 года назад

      @@lolalopez7657 101 Dalmatians and overall popularity of the breed.
      What’s happened to various breeds; in this example the Dalmatian; they skyrocket in popularity - people purchase them based on the “look” ie their iconic spotted coat; people would get them from whoever without knowledge on how to determine unethical vs ethical dog breeders, and from people who had their own “Pongo & Purdy” w/ zero knowledge of breeding yet breed their dogs to make a quick buck or because “puppies!” - these litters got sold to whoever had the cash.
      So you have inbreeding, mass breeding, poor genetics, health issues being passed on - along with bad temperaments - that are raised by people who don’t know what a Dalmatian needs physically or mentally for a healthy, stable life. I’d say the majority of dogs owners are uneducated to what their dogs routine should look like and can not properly train and guide their dogs.
      So you’ve got bad genetics, untrained, uneven tempered dogs continued to be bred and purchased and the inevitable happens - word about their behavior problems spreads and the breed gets blamed = plummeting of that breed.
      Still today, even in lines that are attempting to repair the breed, it’s a little over 1 in 4 Dalmatians have some level of deafness.
      This has also occurred with “pit Bull” like breeds - though their population and what breed actually constitutes “pit Bull” has skyrocketed their population - and I see it now in French Bulldogs and their horribly flattened faces.
      Function over aesthetic - lifestyle over popularity -

I hate how people always say tail wagging means dogs are happy as that is totally wrong! I had pitbulls for years & my ex actually used an attack trained one against me when he got angry. I had my wrist mangled and my ear hanging off by a thread. This was by a dog i loved, trusted, & NEVER thought would hurt me.

    • @vorpal22
      @vorpal22 2 года назад +3

      Yup... my ex made the mistake you mention right here... pit bull his mom's friend owned that he had known for years. One day, he went over (and he had been over at her house dozens and dozens of times) and she opened the door and the pit bull got out and ran towards him, tail wagging. He thought the dog was happy to see him. Next thing he knew, he was in emergency with major lacerations to both his arms and legs.
      That changed his mind about it being "the owner, and not the dog," because she was a pretty responsible owner and that dog had been thoroughly trained. It just snapped that day for no reason anyone could know. The city put the dog down a few days later.

    There's always the question of whether or not pit bulls are dangerous dogs or not or if it's the owners that are irresponsible.
    I think in cases like this, it's a combination of the two: you have a dog that was specifically bred to be dangerous in the hands of an irresponsible, entitled, mouth-breathing idiot who feels no remorse for the fact that their dog(s) attacked another dog.

    • @PsychoVrah
      @PsychoVrah 2 года назад

      Yes because the OWNER trains the DOG to be aggressive I've had rotweilers,pitbulls,and now a cane corso and all of them have NEVER attacked anyone EVER because I trained them properly and they were all sweethearts that acted like big babies wanting to be pet constantly. So it is NOT because of the breed of dog it is because of the fucking owners who are too stupid to train them properly or they purposely train them to be aggressive. So both of you in this comment section assuming it's always only the dog's fault for being the breed that it is. You're wrong. Sorry to burst your fantasy bubble of the perfect world. He obviously did not train the dogs properly he obviously did not train them at all so the dog's never learned any limitations that is why they keep getting out. And yes he was an idiot for also not leashing his dogs up even in his yard KNOWING that they continuously get out. People need to stop blaming the breed and blame the owners. Animals are animals and they are going to be animals their instinct is to survive,protect,etc. obviously their going to do this if they are not trained properly not to do so.

    • @vorpal22
      @vorpal22 2 года назад

      @@PsychoVrah Incorrect. Pit bulls were specifically selectively bred to be aggressive, so the training is to keep their aggression in check and channel their energy and aggression in other ways. That's great that your dogs were / are sweet and that you were able to train them properly.
      The issue is that some dogs are very easy to train: you literally have to do almost nothing. They might be a bit obnoxious, but they are vanishingly unlikely to be violent because the breed does not have aggressive tendencies.
      Pit bulls, on the other hand, are a much bigger challenge and time commitment to train, and even with extensive training (which most people do not do), there will always be some that still cannot control their aggression.
      In this case, we both know the defendant is an idiot who should not have pit bulls, every case on this show involving dog attacks has involved pit bulls, and statistically speaking, this is not selection bias: the following is from TIME magazine, which summarized the results of a detailed study:
      "Pit bulls make up only 6% of the dog population, but they're responsible for 68% of dog attacks and 52% of dog-related deaths since 1982."
      So no matter what you say, either:
      1. The overwhelming majority of pit bull owners are very poor dog owners, whereas almost all other breeds have perfectly fine owners who train their dogs properly; or
      2. Pit bulls are more aggressive than other dogs.
      Which is it, Illumibunny? I don't think that (1) is very likely, so I suspect the answer is (2). Either way, pit bulls should not be trusted.
      In the area of Canada where I am from, there has been (thankfully) a pit bull ban since 2005.
