  • The Skoda Octavia vRS. A good car, but is it worth buying? I must have thought so, driving this car for almost a year ago now, and I haven't looked back. But should you?
    Follow me today as I take a dive into the diesel PD engined vRS and answer the question of how it stacks up in 2023.

    I have a 2010 MK2 Petrol and dear lord I love it. You can fit an elephant in the boot , looks great, goes fast when you want it to and can eat up the miles when journeying. Lovely review and I'm glad you're enjoying yours

      Hi Hamish,
      Very nice, was contemplating the petrol but its slightly thirsty!
      What colour do you have, and is it hatch or estate?
      Thank you kindly, and right back at you.

    My dad bought one new in 2008 (still pre facelift) for a family car its a 2.0TFSI he chip tuned it after 2 years of owning it to 260hp and its been used for daily driving since it now has around 210000 kilomiters and the only thing that broke was a turbo hose, but that is because of the tune he replaced it with aluminuim one and its fine since. I was 7 years old when he bought it and i was always in love with the car and when i turned 18 and got my driving licence, driving the car was realy something special. In my opinion for its time it was an awensome family car for a person that likes a sportier cars. And also about the auto-lights i think you are wrong about that it came as standard as im aware.

    Mine is petrol got cruise control, its silver and the estate or combi version. Throw that entertainment system out. Put a 2Din Pioneer DAB+ in with CarPlay Android and rearcam (plate light combined) and your car is ‘23 proof. I even installed a flat Subwoofer that goes in the double floor of the thrunk. The car is perfect. Stage 1 and 270ps

    • @loosenuts01
      @loosenuts01  Год назад +1

      Sounds like a great car, slightly jealous of the extra space from the estate, I was originally looking for one of those!
      Would you recommend the Pioneer head unit? I've been meaning to get one with a reversing cam kit, but the cheaper ones from Amazon/eBay looked super dodgy, and there's so many different brands/models that I couldn't decide.
      How are you finding the stage 1 map, that's what, a 30-40% increase over standard? Crikey! Hope you're enjoying it!

      No cruise control is poor, I would imagine it was an option. Manual seats aren’t an issue, auto wipers aren’t an issue.

    Most of the things that are missing in this specific one could be added during purchase no problem. But Škoda wasn't aiming for extra luxury stuff with the Octavia. Nobody in their origin country had a phone capable of making use of bluetooth audio and nobody here really felt comfortable having anything automatic at all. And it was like this all the way until 2012. They just wanted something that was more than a reliable wheelbarrow. And the people who had these expensive phones just grabbed the higher trims, the Superb or even a different car altogether.

    2.0 PD in the vRS, not the 1.9. The 1.9 is the one to go for if u want to reach sky high mileage. Had a diesel vRS new in 2008. Not sure all those things you complained of not being included bothered me back then. One of fav cars I’ve owned - not the most reliable, but still enjoyed owning it.

  • @treydaponq

    To sum up, your review needs better research, 2.0l diesel engines were used in the VRS not 1.9 , first a PD then a CR diesel. The car shown is a total base spec VRS...later models had an optional jumbo pack giving cruise, climate control auto lights, auto wipers and most things you'd find in a modern car...❤

    Shame you didnt use the petrol. Also, your competition info is based on smaller classes of car, ie Clio, fiesta etc. This is based on the Golf, so compare to the focus etc……my 2006 version had cruise as standard…..my FL 2010 version had pretty much all the kit you needed, even Bluetooth!

      @loosenuts01  11 месяцев назад

      I've personally seen both engines, the 1.9PD & 2.0CR do over 250,000 miles before, although the CR engine does require stricter maintenance than the PD.
      I bought mine at 120,000 and didn't have any reservations.

    I never measured the 0-60 of mine (it's a petrol), but this 8.5s feels awkwardly slow to me.... Mine is either in better condition or someone already gave an ECU treatment to it. 🙄

    • @loosenuts01
      @loosenuts01  11 месяцев назад +1

      Petrol will deffo have a better 0-60. Even better with a small ECU boost.
      My Skoda was owned by a traffic policeman before me, so I'm pretty sure mine is boggo standard.

      Yep, all were available as extras, just not fitted to this VRS. I was just a bit shocked that a friends Astra had auto lights/wipers/mirrors in 2006, from a car that cost a fair bit less when new than the Octavia VRS.
      To be honest though, it's not a huge deal, and if you wanted then, you can get all retrofitted for quite a reasonable amount.

      All the interior tech “features” you wish it had but doesn’t, is exactly why I love my 2007 manual VRS wagon. Although mine is stage 2 tune turbo petrol which does 0-100 in 5.0 flat. If you want to review a fast Skoda, don’t drive a diesel.

      Thank you for taking the time to comment! 0-100 in 5 sounds like a dream!
      For a pure pleasure car lack of electronics is a good thing, much easier to work on and less to go wrong, but I do quite a few motorway miles and cruise control and central dimming mirror especially would be nice sometimes haha.
      I've actually had the pleasure to drive a stage 1 petrol, different beast altogether! But for me motorway miles are high so can't get better than a diesel sadly!
