Your title is a bit aggressive because the OP3 is a great camera but, as you show it in your video, to certain extend... I think your statement is correct. Of course the challenge will be to keep it reasonably light weighted and almost pocket sized (oops). But hey, DJI has proven its capability to get us to the next level. @@PicturesofNewYork after reading your comments and others, I suspect something strange is happening with the pocket 3 with a larger sensor. They both have a fix aperture. Hopefully with firmware update, DJI will fix that issue.
As a complete newbie, the Pocket 2 is a good starting point and quite good value. I am still amazed at the compact size and performance of this video camera.
I personally think the OP2 looks way to sharp and digital/fake while the OP3 is going for a softer and more colorful and cinematic look. I think the softer OP3 footage looks way more pleasing to the eye. Everything is way to sharp and detailed in the OP2 footage and there's no sense of depth, everything is in focus. Not a bad camera at all, the OP2 has been my favorite camera since I got it and Ive been waiting for the OP3. I think I will now use OP2 for b-roll/timelapses and OP3 for main footage and different b-roll shots like the 360 tunnel shot and things in low light.
Thank you for the comparison! I'm a total newbie with a limited budget and was wondering if getting the 2 would be a total mistake... So tempting as it is over $400 cheaper!
I’m heavy user of OP2 too. 60 fps in the Pocket 2 has much worse codec quality than at the 30/24 fps, try to compare both at 24fps (low light will be much better then on both too). OP3 has big sensor in situation where it don't have any aperture (2 -3 step will be enough), it was not great idea. What I see, OP3 is typically less sharp than OP2 if somebody know how to use it... (AF hunt more visible on 1" sensor, and I suppose anti-alias filter is much stronger on OP3) OP2 - brighter lens flatten a bit difference in sensor sizes between OP2 and OP3 OP3 - soft HDR help to stretch dynamic range (the same as in Action 4) OP3 - better, smoother exposure changes, and better exposure overall OP3 - bokeh, but uncontrollable - sometimes I want to film person where background is more defined, but lack of aperture in OP3 make this impossible, OP2 is more ok in every situation if we left without aperture ... but 1", bright lens and no aperture ? Not really. Overall OP3 is in some areas is better camera (screen is great, and tracking is good), but if somebody has OP2, upgrade is discusable. I almost bought OP3, but when I see more and more footage (mostly paid reviews), my hype fell off. We should wait to more unbiased reviews from real users like You, to decide, but now I stay with my (third) OP2. And OP3 is bigger and heavier camera, not that "pocket" what I see... eg. for travellers is important.
I agree that the Pocket 2 is better at 24 and 30 fps. I typically use 30 fps but have been using 60 fps lately because in continuous focus the pocket 2 sometimes locked on to objects too quickly causing some stuttering when it goes from subject to subject. I was hoping the 3 would be an improvement at 60 but while it is smoother the details were not as good surprisingly. I'm afraid at 24/30 the pocket 2 might have an even bigger advantage but I will give it a try. If the 3 somehow matches the 2 in lower frame rates than it is definitely something DJI can fix with a firmware update. It could be because it has a fixed aperture and the bigger sensor is causing some focus issues like you had mentioned.
@@ArmandoOG In the first, the focus at infinity broke on one side, perhaps from transport - I do not know. Repaired by DJI service, but after repair I sold a little disappointed with durability. Just shortly after that, my X3000 also failed sharpness-a known factory defect. But since I needed a camera for an evening out, I bought a second Pocket 2 even more pissed on the X3000. After some time of normal use, the gimbal got loose - it tapped slightly while waving the camera. I gave it to the service, which replaced me with a factory new one. Fortunately, the third one works fine.
That... when ice forms in foggy air like you show here. I have seen a few drones lose lift, I assume the same phenomenon airplanes experience getting airborne, and staying aloft something to do with disturbing airflow over the props, which are propulsion and lift for quadcopters. Really unpredictable in these conditions!
No matter the sensor size, at 4k with the best possible lighting conditions, they will all perform equally, however; reducing those lighting conditions by even a tiny margin and the differences are stark.
Thanks my friends, I think if you film at night the 3 will be much better. If it's just during the day then the 2 will be just fine. I'm still deciding if I'm keeping the 3 just for night videos.
how is the switch on speed compared to pocket 2? I turn my pocket 2 on and off often and when something interesting happen in sudden, I will missed it while waiting it to get ready to shoot...😅
@@PicturesofNewYork just saw the product in physical store, its quite big compared to pocket 2 and its not quite pocket anymore for me.. I guess I'll stick to pocket 2 for now..
3:00 I like the way the pocket 3 look here and how blue and colorful the sky is compared to 2. The Dji pocket 3 looks much better in colors and saturation then on 2.
Pocket 2 looks like an action camera (oversharpened IMO) Sharpness and detail are two different things. Pocket 2 is sharper but pocket 3 KILLS the 2 with detail.
Detail and sharpness are different. If you look at the screen captures, you'll see that the 2 has more detail. Even if I decrease sharpening in the 2 to soften the image it still has more fine details compared to the 3.
@@PicturesofNewYork Detail is better in the 3. The 2 has more sharpness. Sharpness and detail are two different things. Thanks! Interesting video. I was about to buy the Pocket 3... but then I saw how cheap the Pocket 2 currently is. I had the Pocket 2 for a month and then send it back. I decided to rather buy the latest GoPro with MediaMod, which I currently use. Now the Pocket 3 came out and I thought hey, let's get this one... but it would only make sense for night scenes. So I bought a Pocket 2 Creator Combo for only 150€ which is insane haha the cheapest are like 250€, but I managed to only pay 150€ for it. It arrives in two days. I'll use it a bit and then sell it for the 250€, so I have 100€ discount on my Pocket 3. :D Your video made me think, why not just keep the Pocket 2 as for what I am doing... it looks better. Looks like the focus does not know what to do... I saw it instantly that in the Pocket 2 everything seemed for detailed, which for me... in that comparison, looks better + it is much more tiny... not so comfortable like the Pocket 3, but super stealthy... which my GoPro with Media Mod is not! I had situations where I did not want to record with the GoPro... and the Pocket 2 is excellent for it!
Hai, Nice video..I have OP2 and it kinda feel hidden in my hands and less noticiable in public, so that I could shoot with ease. What is the inhand feel of OP3, especially considering the screensize. Is it easily noticiable ?
It is bigger and heavier for sure but I actually find it more comfortable to hold as the size makes it easier to hold. It surprisingly gets less hot than the pocket 2. It's a bit more noticeable especially due to the horizontal screen but still pretty small overall.
Thanks for the good comparison vid. Markus Pix between the Pocket 3 and the Sony RX100 VII, both 1" sensors. Huge differences. Check out his vid to see which one is vastly better. (Crap, I really wanted to get the new Pocket.)
Thanks for pointing me to that video. As a Sony shooter, I can say that one is not even going to be close because the Zeiss lens on the RX100, probably costs as much as the Pocket 3. So not a surprising result. I do think if you do a lot of lowlight videos then the Pocket 3 is way ahead of the 2 as the 2 is not really even useable at night.
Thank you for making this!! I'll disagree only because I can see some details flickering on Pocket 2 but not on Pocket 3!! Specially on thin railings or building bricks. I think it's the image processing/noise reduction that got improved. Although - the jump from 2 to 3 is really insignificant based on these videos (if any)
Thats because is not really more detailed, is just more adding more sharpening. I love the OP2 but there is not comparison with OP3 in image quality. Anyway, OP2 is still a great little camera.
I think you are doing something wrong. Its like if the Pocket 3 would have been recorded in 1080 and then rescaled. im looking it a with a good 4k monitor and something is OFF. Not the same quality as other Pocket 3 videos.
Is it a difference in detail, or a difference in focus? Walking around with random subjects on a street makes it hard to tell what each camera is supposed to be focusing on. A larger sensor means a shallower depth of field, so you can't expect everything in frame to be in perfect focus at all times.
What you call "more detailed" is digital sharpening and the fact that the OP2 has less bokeh. Just look at 1:10 and you'll see what I mean. OP3 has depth making it more cinematic, just look at the trees in the background how they are less evident keeping the viewer focus on the people instead, whereas OP2 is more like an action camera/smartphone... The image quality is much better on OP3.
I would agree except what exactly is in focus there? The OP3 has the equivalent of F5.6 on a FF camera so something should be in focus. Not in focus and Bokeh are not the same thing.
A lot of people would think that moving from a 1/17in sensor to a 1in sensor wouldn't do a lot, but actually it does. OP3's larger sensor (and also therefore larger glass) would affect that DOF significantly ... despite in this case that f/1.8 from pocket 2 is more akin to standard "smartphone" dof where most will be in focus // even with a smaller aperture, the larger sensor of the pocket 3 will overcompensate for that f/0.2 difderence the default setting of the pocket 3's full pixel focus is to point focus right away on faces, that's why its almost always moving (and seems like its out of focus on most other foreground and background) this can be circumvented by changing the focus settings (disable face priority)
its just ypically 1 inch sensor.. good at low light, natural bokeh , but the downside always hard detail or focus area.. this happen at smartphone to.. in the end i still prefer pocket 3
For me the Pocket 3 is much better then the 2. I have both. Special in difficult light, the 3 performs much better in color, noise etc. And, it handles much better. I use this mini cam at least 1 to 2 time EVERY working day as a Real Estate photographer.
Which one should I get for my new RUclips vlog ? I just need to know about: 1. Good camera quality, noising cancellations, lighting for night and day, good sounds, and everything Can you guys tell me which one is better 😮😊 ??
Thanks for the comparison. But the clips are color graded differently. P2 has way more contrast. HOWEVER, the non-graded parts are still washed out on P3. But for the image it's picking up, the P3 is the winner.
Im thinking of upgrading, but also i see same thing that Pocket 2 is not that much worse, and it a lot smaller camera to carry around and as its older its a lot cheaper too😅 Overall P3 is def a winner, but...its not that massive of a difference i feel. But size of cameras is quite big. Pocket 2 is such a stealthy little thing, good for someone startin out i feel and still shy with camera.
You're right, with color grading you can get the pocket 2 image to look very close to PK3. Other youtubers just compared them straight out of a box with normal color profile, obviously PK3 would look much better this way. We need people who use the product long enough like you to review. Great video btw, I'll stick with PK2 for now.
I think the colors on the osmo pocket 2 are more flattering than the colors on the osmo pocket 3 which are sadder. I don't have the osmo pocket 3, but I have the osmo pocket 2 and the action 4 a bit like the osmo pocket 3 with a larger sensor than the pocket 2 and which therefore accepts more deviations of light and backlight but the colors are less flattering than the pocket 2.
Is that not down to your grading - you could saturate the Pocket 3 a little more? But yeah, I see what you mean about the detail. That should not be happening due to the larger sensor!
I did, later in the video there are straight out of the camera comparisons as well. This didn't seem to make any difference. Here is the first SOOC one ruclips.net/video/yWT2fhapoCE/видео.htmlsi=gs2InF5oy73U2tKO&t=187
Normal mode on OP2 is much, much worse in terms of dynamic range than Cinelike, so I suppose it was be reason. For total amateurs OP3 is way better camera, but if You want a bit more advanced postproduction, differences between OP3 and OP2 are not that obvious.
The 2 definitely has more detail which is different than sharpness. Lowlight the 3 is better, but because most users of the pocket like myself use it in the daytime, that is more important. So not clickbait, for many users it's worse and not an upgrade.
Put my hand on the heart: the pocket 3 is better 100%. BUT spend 600-700$ on a such camera is crazy. Plus they've adopted the trend of making ppl buying more accessories by removing features from the device. Like why the F would you remove 3.5mm jack? No backwatd compatibility. What do we do with all the expensive gear people already have, buy more? Sure, if you want to use this product. Greed is all I see in these companies like dji, apple, samsung and other top companies.
P3 has lower sharpness setting. You need to compare tham at the same settings. You not comparing cameras here for shure. Also bigger sensor has more bokeh than smaller one so you count out of focus footage as "less details" Honestly that test tells more about your incompetence of testing and using cameras than about cameras itself...
I have both cameras, DJI Pocket3 shoots better video than DJI Pocket2 in 4K, and full hd DJI Pocket3 shoots video much better than DJI Pocket2. But I still love DJI Pocket2 because of its small size.
ni soñando es mejor la 2 que la 3... yo he tenido la osmo 1, pocket 2 y ahora esta pocket 3... ni punto de comparación. OP3 has big sensor in situation where it don't have any aperture (2 -3 step will be enough), it was not great idea. What I see, OP3 is typically less sharp than OP2 if somebody know how to use it... (AF hunt more visible on 1" sensor, and I suppose anti-alias filter is much stronger on OP3)
OP2 - brighter lens flatten a bit difference in sensor sizes between OP2 and OP3
OP3 - soft HDR help to stretch dynamic range (the same as in Action 4)
OP3 - better, smoother exposure changes, and better exposure overall
OP3 - bokeh, but uncontrollable - sometimes I want to film person where background is more defined, but lack of aperture in OP3 make this impossible, OP2 is more ok in every situation if we left without aperture ... but 1", bright lens and no aperture ?
One question because you say you're carrying it in your third pocket, have they been damaged or something?
Thank you for that information. We would have invited in a 3, and will now stick with the 2 for now. 👍🙏
It's about the same, the battery life seems better though so you can maybe just leave it on.
If you compared the ZV-1 (or the like) to the pocket 2, you would find the same exact difference and the pocket 2 would be sharper but the ZV-1 would have more detail. I have edited the pocket 2 video (a lot) and the pocket 3. 3 wins, no contest. If sharpness is important to you, compare any current phone to the pocket 2 and the phone will win. Smaller sensors have sharpness but lack detail. Sharp edges don’t add detail…just sharpness
@@DanFarrarRepeating the same thing twice doesn't make you more right.
@@HeavyInstinct sorry, I didn’t think you were understanding. My bad ✌️
As a Sony shooter and owner of 3 of their FF cameras and 5 GM lens the ZV-1 would annihilate the Pocket 2 or 3 in detail, sharpness, color accuracy etc. Sharpness and detail are different but look at the screen grabs. The 2 has more detail. @@DanFarrar
Pocket 2 is a great value and really you don't need the 3 unless it's low light videos you are interested in filming.
I choose Door Number 3.
Fingers crossed, it has the washer dryer combo and the six luggage pack from American Tourister !
That’s how many people use it, so it’s actually a good real world test. The 3 does seem to focus hunt more so another area it trails the 2.
OP3's larger sensor (and also therefore larger glass) would affect that DOF significantly ... despite
in this case that f/1.8 from pocket 2 is more akin to standard "smartphone" dof where most will be in focus // even with a smaller aperture, the larger sensor of the pocket 3 will overcompensate for that f/0.2 difderence
the default setting of the pocket 3's full pixel focus is to point focus right away on faces, that's why its almost always moving (and seems like its out of focus on most other foreground and background)
this can be circumvented by changing the focus settings (disable face priority)
At least there is no upgrade reason from 2 to 3 if you already own a Pocket 2. From my point of view
Only if make night videos otherwise I would stick with the 2.
its just ypically 1 inch sensor.. good at low light, natural bokeh , but the downside always hard detail or focus area.. this happen at smartphone to.. in the end i still prefer pocket 3
For me the Pocket 3 is much better then the 2. I have both. Special in difficult light, the 3 performs much better in color, noise etc. And, it handles much better.
I use this mini cam at least 1 to 2 time EVERY working day as a Real Estate photographer.
Yes, I also thought the osmo 3 looked bad in all of the reviews. I didn't understand why they say it has good image quality
Which one should I get for my new RUclips vlog ? I just need to know about: 1. Good camera quality, noising cancellations, lighting for night and day, good sounds, and everything
Can you guys tell me which one is better 😮😊 ??
If you need one for night, that is one area that the new Pocket 3 is better.
Please test both mounted on bike and drive
Is that not down to your grading - you could saturate the Pocket 3 a little more? But yeah, I see what you mean about the detail. That should not be happening due to the larger sensor!
I have some footage in the video where it was straight out of the camera in normal color profile with no post color grading. That didn't seem to help.
what do you think, is it worth buying p2 now?
If you film with enough light the P2 is a great value. It's not very good if you are filming in low light scenarios.
@@PicturesofNewYork can I fix the sky overexposure?
why D Cine like ?... why not just use auto for all these 2 cams ? that is what most of people will use
Hmm… Side by side 2 looks brighter and sharper, but… low light comparison? Bigger view screen, 4K at 120? Good click bait though
I have pocket 2 n love new York
OK, Insee that Osmo 2 is much sharper and appears to be better st first. But then look at the SUV Headlight at 6:39. Osmo 3 has so much more detail.
Too obvious click bait!
Look at the screen grabs, not clickbait at all, just disappointment
I have both cameras, DJI Pocket3 shoots better video than DJI Pocket2 in 4K, and full hd DJI Pocket3 shoots video much better than DJI Pocket2. But I still love DJI Pocket2 because of its small size.
Hi I would love to see a side by side comparison by you.
The pocket3 has way more detail. Look at the sidewalk, so much more detail.
I'm glad you pointed this out. It also seems to have a focusing problem where the focus hunts.
There's more depth of field on the pocket 3 and much better in low light.
Didn’t notice the difference.
That's already a problem if the 3 is an upgrade to the 2 right?
Pocket 3 looks like a real camera, Pocket 2 looks like over sharpened phone or action cam footage.
d-cinelike and d-log m, two different programs, to be fair use the same for both.
Yes, that's why I shot some in normal color profile straight out of the camera. Results are similar and in the video.
Pocket 2 ❤
Not worthy the upgrade
fake
Yes, some have commented that it's not a real 1" sensor.
