    Kabu didn't imply that Liko wasn't suited for battles. Liko has a lot of talent that she is reluctant to use because she puts the needs of others over her own desire to win, it's clear that sprigatito wants to win when they have battles and Liko realized all this in the previous thanks to Kabu who pointed out this behavior to her.
    Kabu just said that she needs to figure out the kind of trainer that she wants to be without her kindness getting in the way of the times where she has to battle.

      YES Exactly! It's just that Liko's kindness is her really admirable trait, but it also holds her back; Liko has real battle potential within herself, but she's lacking the Push for her own wants & desires to get her to really let herself out & go all out. Yeah, when Kabu said winning in battle isn't the only path. I think he meant less "You don't have to battle" and more "You should find your own reason for battling", She doesnt want to battle just for the sake of winning like Roy, she needs her own reason to do so.

    Liko is aiming to become a Pokemon Master. Think about it. Ash defined a Pokemon Master as one who befriends all Pokemon in the world. Now Liko wants to understand the emotions of the Pokemon she meets. To understand them is a way of befriending them.

    Disagree that Kabu said Liko isn’t suited for battles just that winning isn’t the only path of a trainer.
    It doesn’t means she’s not a battler she just will have to find her own path on it. And even if she isn’t actually suited for battle that’s fine since it’s unique.

    These two episodes definitely help my belief (for now) that this gen of the anime is the most emotionally nuanced. One who needs to learn empathy, one who’s perhaps too empathetic depending on the situation, one who’s taking the first steps to get out of her shell, and adults with clear aspects of their character the kids can look up to and other aspects the kids can actually help with thanks to their lack of burden. Pokémon acquisition of this episode was from Liko relating to her anxieties/fears and isolated feelings, we’re fresh off an episode about finding motivation after burnout, and mending senseless grudges, pretty good run as of now
    Liko is clearly intelligent, both in learning Pokémon interactions and emotional intelligence relative to her age. I don’t see why Liko can’t progress in similar ways as before. But, considering how we’ve now seen multiple gyms being used as literal training in a gym rather than progression towards the elite 4/championship tournament, let’s see how it goes

  • @Zistheone2

    If you think about it, both of our protagonists each reflect Ash’s two core traits:
    * Liko deeply cares about pokemon & wants to better understand them
    * Roy is passionate about battling & getting stronger in the traditional sense
    It's not the dynamic I wanted when the series was first announced, but it works narratively

    • @Amaling
      @Amaling Год назад +4

      And at least based on foreshadowing, Liko's weed cat wants to battle so if she wants to better understand her pokemon it will involve battling of some kind. While Roy has already been shown to need to better understand his pokemon to improve their battle output. Pretty impressive character writing of dual protagonist when you look into it

    One thing that I think that Horizons is doing well, is establishing future problems for our two main characters (ex. Liko's strong empathy is bound to have her be reckless to save a pokemon or her friends life, and Roy's enthusiasm during battles / training might end up having him hurt someone because he wasn't careful).
    It's definitely strange to have two very different characters especially with how long we've been with Ash, but this just shows that Horizons isn't trying to piggyback on his success and improving upon old concepts and going with new ones. So far, it's strange, but for me it's a welcomed change for our characters and i can't wait to see how this develops :)

      I totally agree with you!!!!!!!!!! I think the problem is that fans have been using Ash's character as a common reference of what trainers should be. We really don't know any other perspectives in pokemon trainers others than his after all these years; it's all we know. I think right now this is showing the development into becoming a pokemon trainer though. We just have to be patient for Liko to find her driving force in battling

    “No matter who you are if you bring strong emotions near this Pokémon it’ll silence you violently.”

  • @tsurbwobniar20

    I hope one of Liko's Hatenna's moves will be Psychic or Confusion. Because those two are depicted as telekinesis in the anime; they can pick opponents up to fling them around, and (If possible) even send attacks right back at their user. So either one of those moves would be very useful and pretty awesome.

    • @MarcusMapua
      @MarcusMapua Год назад +3

      I'd imagine Confusion cause it's still in its young stage. I'd support this claim due to Wattrel. When they revealed its sound attack to be Uproar, I was surprised that it already knew a strong move & looked it up for game reference {which turns out it could learn Uproar at Lv 19, which just so happens to be the starting level you could encounter Wattrel at East Province where Roy met it}. So for fun I tried the same for Hatenna; but her game locations aren't at Route 3 or Galar Mine, but the closest would be Motostoke Ouutskirts; which ranges the movepool from up to 22/26; so we could theorize her movepool up to those levels

    WAIT WAIT!. Kabu said that the kindness MINDSET is not the right Path in battle NOT that Liko as a person is not suited for battles. A person is not the same thing as their actions. Liko is a person WHO employs a kind mindset, but could work on changing that mindset and behavior in battle. In fact, by the end of episode 20 she did take Kabu's words to heart and did actively regret going easy on her opponents, even apologizing to sprigatito and Wakaba. Also, Liko's ability to read her pokemon's feelings could be employed in her future battle style. Braseus even said that the most important thing to watch in battle is your pokemon.

      That means that you can be kind, the problem is how. Kindness can hurt others, your Pokémon and yourself (like we saw in the Gym test), but it can also become your strength (bonding with hatena ).
      The way she uses her kindness will determine her growth as a person and as a Trainer.

    There's been times when Ash has felt bad about thoroughly crushing an opponent too. He just doesn't do anything with it until he *finishes* crushing them.
    I'm really getting worried that they're trying to force Liko down a path that destroys the old association between "Pokémon" and "battle" just for the sake of reminding us that Ash is gone.
    The problem is, if they don't do this exactly right, Liko will come across as extremely naive, setting herself on fire to keep other people warm when it's cold, and devastated when she only saves 99% of the puppies at the pound.

  • @pixelsaidon5032
    @pixelsaidon5032 Год назад +4

    I find liko's goal (for now) to be nothing like ash's made-up fictitious pokemon master bs. Liko is a trainer who operates mentally and emotionally with the pokemon she meets,and I find that very fitting for our girl who oftens has a lot on her mind. She could be a connoisseur,or a doctor.for all I know,she can't be a coordinater or a performer!

    • @MarcusMapua
      @MarcusMapua Год назад +3

      For the last part, I guess it will all depend on how they choose to portray said goals if they are shown when they visit Hoenn, Sinnoh, & Kalos {albeit I feel like Kalos will portray over more with Mega Evolution; and I do kinda hope before we leave Galar that Liko & co. witness someone going MAX}

  • @MarcusMapua
    @MarcusMapua Год назад +5

    Even though no MAX, Kabu was great! His training helped Fuecoco use Flamethrower but no chance against Centiskorch's Flash Fire & firepower; plus helped develop Liko's character: Liko's kindness is admirable, but also holds her back; she has real battle potential in her, but she's lacking the Push to let out her wants & go all out. She needs to find Her Drive for battling. - Next EP was SO Sweet to the Hype of Liko finally catching her 1st Pokemon in Hatenna!! It also did well in helping lift Liko up: even though she doesn't know her trainer-path yet, she has found in her that she's good at being receptive to the feelings of others; both people & Pokemon {and reaffirms she Will find her path as long as she goes forward with pokemon}. And Liko will find her path with Sprigatito (who likes cardboard boxes like real-life cats) & now her shy Hatenna (although it appears for some reason Hatenna is okay being around Noctowl; perhaps the reason might be because due to Hatenna being strongly receptive to emotions, it was fine around Noctowl because out of most of the public pokemon on the Brave Asagi, Noctowl is the most calm and composed one for her to be okay & be around with. I do hope in the future that for Liko to help train Hatenna, both of them could get psychic-training from Orla & Metagross)

  • @13CrystalHeart
    @13CrystalHeart Год назад +15

    Hatenna was a perfect first catch for Liko! Hatterene is one of my favorite Gen8 Pokemon, so I hope she gets to evolve it one day!
    Also, I like Amethio clearly trying to keep Zir and Conia from getting into trouble with trying to say that since they're disobeying orders, that _he'll_ handle things from there, and them insisting on backing him up. It seems they do care about each other, and I'm very curious to see how they came to be so loyal to him. (They already showed some loyalty in Ep6 being upset for Amethio when he was removed from the mission and accompanying him in his search for Rayquaza. I really hope for backstory episode one of these days.)

    Not you too. You and other people really need to stop comparing Liko to Ash. It getting really old. They are 2 very different characters. The only thing there are similar is that they are the main characters and both love Pokemon, that’s it. Ash is outgoing, loves to battle, and very goal driven. Liko is timid, a cares about Pokemon and people feelings. Plus she very observant. I really love the 2 episodes because they highlight Liko character devolopment, who was falling behind to the other characters like Roy. Also Hatenna is the perfect Pokemon for Liko. Liko is a great character and I can relate to her so much. I don't get the hate for her at all. I love that she so different to Ash. If she is the same as Ash, with the same goals then it would be carbon copy of the orginal anime and why make a new anime if that what you plan on doing, so stop comparing Liko to Ash and stop comparing Horizons to the orginal anime, they are 2 different animes. Plus there is already a character similar to Ash, Roy. He might not have same goal to be a Pokemon Master but he almost had the same personality as Ash.

    "Hearing that the successor of Ash Ketchum is not suited for battle...", "She is the successor of Ash..."
    Urgh, stop it with Ash. Just forget about him when talking about Horizons. Riko is her own character. She's not like Ash, and that's okay.
    And for someone like me who's tired of the typical trainer going through the Gym Challenge and having battling as their main interest, Riko is a great breath of fresh air.
    Finally we explore different goals and different mentalities for a trainer. Because the typical trainer who loves his Pokémon and uses that love to go through the battles and gyms has been so overused both in the games and anime, it's tiring.
    I'm happy to see someone unique. We can stop the Ash comparisons now. Let's just stop. I don't want to compare Riko with Ash because they're so different from each other, and also because of how poorly he was written in Journeys. I don't want Riko to follow that same path and become poorly written as well.

One strong enough to deal with the explorers and the ancient pokemon. Specialy the explorers, since they're after her and the pendant. And i think that Hateena is a perfect match for Liko and her struggle with emotions.
    I also thing something about Amethio. Since now he went rogue and do things by himself (going after Rayquaza regardless of his boss's orders), this could lead him to take a neutral position on fighting both the explorers and the rising volt tacklers, without the intention on helping neither of them
