Sad fact is today only about 1% of farm workers are in a union . The UFW helped to improve working conditions for all farm workers in California but most still are not in the union . Cesar Chevez ran the union on the principle of Gandhi's non violent resistance , Cesar was also vegetarian and worked on animal rights .I filmed Delores Huerta and interviewed Cesar in 1979 during the boycott . I camped out for a week with the group . The film I was videographer on , The struggle, is in the UFW library . Produced by Jessie Nazareth .
In 1974 I worked directly with Dolores as her subordinate. A great leader. During a Labor Day Parade in NYC I was her body guard. Why me? I was an infantry vet!

Delores and Yvonne Burke are two women I would freak out just to and be rendered speechless.. I get so nervous about two women who made changes that we all benefit from.
They murdered women who stood up. Mrs. Huerta had 11 children. That’s amazing in itself.
