Fair enough. Great list. Our order are a bit different, but we agree on 8 out of the 10 names. 1. Pele (I might switch the top 2 someday) 2. Messi (Pelé and Messi are clearly ahead of the rest in my opinion) 3. Di Stéfano (The most complete footballer of all time) 4. Beckenbauer (The greatest defensive player of all time) 5. C. Ronaldo (The greatest goalscorer of all time) 6. Maradona (His lack of consistence and the fact the never won the European Cup or the Copa Libertadores means he miss out on the top 5) 7. Cruyff (His national team record is pretty much just about the 1974 Fifa World Cup. All the other players in the top 6 at least won a something with their national teams. But 3-7 are pretty close in my opinion). 8. Ronaldo Nazario (He could have been in the mix with the other, but his problems with injuries, weight, fitness and his missing CL title means I can't put him higher than 8th.) 9. Lothar Matthaus (With the exception of Beckenbauer all the names in my top 8 are primarily offensive minded. I then decided to leave the last two spots the most the complete - not primarily offensive minded - midfielder and the most complete defender of all time) 10. Paolo Maldini Honourable mentions: - Garrincha - Yashin - José Leandro Andrade - Xavi - Platini - Zidane - Puskas - Baresi - Rijkaard - Boszik - Didi - Nilton Santos - Facchetti - Buffon - Moore - Best - Ronaldinho - G. Müller - Van Basten - Romario - Eusebio - Meazza - Sindelar - Nasazzi - V. Mazzola - Moreno - Matthews - Zico - Charlton - Laudrup
No doubt a prime Eusebio would be a massive upgrade to Portugal for this World Cup. But there's another hipothetical upgrade that would be as good or even better, and without bringing anyone in. That would be to rejuvenate Pepe and Cristiano 10 years, back to 2012 form, or even 5 years, back to 2017. That, I think would make Portugal nº1 favourites for Qatar 22.
For Wales you at must at least have considered Ryan Giggs and John Toshack, surely? For Portugal, replace Ronaldo with Ronaldo in his prime. For England, Duncan Edwards if he'd had the chance to reach his prime. For Germany, can't argue with Der Bomber. Nitpicking aside, the research that went into this is awe-inspiring.
As a Cameroonian, the beef you got with Eto'o feels so out of place. At a local level, he has done way too much to change football here in the country ever since he became president of the federation. And we Cameroonians back at home all love him. He's arguably the best thing that could have happened to us. Listening to your analysis, I wondered if we are talking about the same person. You say he's putting pressure on the team, any Cameroonian will tell you that his words instead rekindled a belief that was dying in the national team. Anyway, the outside world is always free to make their analysis. And millions on your channel will believe anything you say.
Best German players in the premier league of all time. (Day 412) I will not give up until the video is made or Alfie himself tells me to stop. Everyone else telling me that will be ignored. If you don't believe my number, just go back to the previous videos. I'm at the bottom most of the time, but I'm there.
Better option for Croatia would have been either Davor Šuker, Joško Skoblar or Dražan Jerković. We need a striker and they would be just right options. I dont know why are you insisting on Bobek so much.
I would say Clint Dempsey would be in the mix as well because of his versatility in a front line and clinical finishing when it matters most. Our defense is just horrendous as well (mostly talking about Aaron Long here) so guys like Marcelo Balboa, Carlos Bocanegra, Desmond Armstrong, and even Alexi Lalas would be a huge upgrade because all of them can do more in the build-out (maybe not Lalas) than any of out CBs outside of Tim Ream.
@@SanFranFan30 agreed on our CBs not being up to it, just don’t know that we’ve ever had enough quality there aside from a few months of Gooch before he got hurt and was never the same. As much as I love deuce I don’t know I would want him as a CF in a front three which is where we need the upgrade. Prime deuce would absolutely have a place in this squad I just don’t think he upgrades a problem area enough. Too bad we don’t have a legendary manager at our disposal because that’s what we really need.
@@Themvpaul17 Very true about the manager part. Really the main reason I'd put Duece in is because he's probably the best finisher in USMNT history he was just so consistent in the final third, and that's really something this squad doesn't have at all.
@@Themvpaul17 Also ideally, we would have John Brooks, Miles Robinson, and Chris Richards to go with Tim Ream back there at CB, then we could take our pick at legends at CF or GK.
I was thinking of recommending this type of video for Alfie to make again following the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020 editions but I guess it was already in the process of being created.
How about picking a 'Rest Of The World' team with players from countries who have failed to qualify which would probably win the World Cup. e.g. With Haaland & Salah up front and a couple of Italians with Andy Robertson at the back I'd like to see a good pool of players who would have a good chance of lifting the trophy
For Canada, you should have mentioned Dwayne de Rosario and Alex Bunbury. Bunbury was a striker, so he probably doesn't make the squad. De Rosario was a winger, so it all depends on whether you want to play Davies as a wing back or a winger. De Rosario would be a huge upgrade on Tajon Buchanan though. While we are weak in midfield, de Guzman probably doesn't displace Eustaquio, and while prime De Guzman would replace 39 year old Atiba Hutchinson, he wouldn't replace a prime Hutchinson. You could also mention Craig Forrest, but I'd say he's probably on par with Milan Borjan.
I'd still love to see a video about a potential team for a potential country - the East African Federation, which is set to be a confederation of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. None of these are particularly storied footballing nations but building a talented side should be doable - Saido Berahino is a pretty potent forward, Yoane Wissa has been alright for Brentford, Mbwana Samatta played well for Villa and is a starter at Genk, Victor Wanyama's still pretty reasonable despite going to the MLS Retirement Home for Ageing Midfielders. You could certainly make something *interesting* out of it. At least, that's my opinion.
Maybe it's just recency bias but I think Clint Dempsey has to be the pick for a USMNT, he would really provide ruthless finishing in the final third for a team that struggles can create plenty of great chances when organized but severely lacks in the finish department. Honorable mentions for me would be: Tim Howard for obvious reasons, as well as Marcelo Balboa, Carlos Bocanegra, Alexi Lalas, and Desmond Armstrong as help for that concerning back line both in defense and in the build out. Personally my favorite of the 4 would be Marcelo Balboa because of his ability to be lethal on set pieces.
Except that Berhalter would at least consider playing Ferreira over Dempsey because Clint did not play Berhalter's style at all. I can see Bocanegra or I would go with Oguchi Onyewu as the central defense is kind of crap for the US, and I really doubt Balboa or Lalas would fix that. If I thought we would play a 3 at the back, Pablo Mastroeni would be a good choice. I might also look at peak John O'Brien, who when he could get on the field was a great holding midfielder
It’s obviously Dempsey, or maybe even Howard. This dude is legit just trying to troll the USA by picking some random dude. USA soccer didn’t truly begin until 1994 so picking a dude from the 1950/60s is a joke
DAY 25: Hey Alfie, could you do a video on the life, career, controversies and tragedy of Justin Fashanu. It'd be your best video yet and it's a criminally underheard story. ❤️
I have a video idea that I’d love to see you make. If we take some of the greatest teams throughout history and played them in todays game which tier of English football would they be capable of winning.
Even though everyone would pick Pelé or R9, I would pick a left or right back for Brazil. Someone like Carlos Alberto, Junior or Leandro would elevate the team to another level. Roberto Carlos or Cafu are great options too.
I think Maradona is a bad choice for Argentina. Not only would Messi and Maradona's positions clash on the pitch, they would also clash as who should be the 10 of the team. Maradona would want to be the main man and he really doesn't like competition, so it would not be good for team chemistry or morale. Di Stefano on the other hand is far more complete and can adapt to many other positions. They could use him as a Lo Celso replacement and the team would be amazing. Not to also mention that Di Stefano is a better player in general
For Canada I would have picked Bruce Wilson. Played well against Pele, Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto during his career and was the only Canada named to the CONCACAF Team of the Century.
I think for Denmark, if you want to go with who would improve the squad most, and not just who's the best player who would be an upgrade, you'd have to go with Michael's younger brother Brian. As fast as Yusuf Poulsen and Martin Braithwaite, he had more technique and was a greater goal threat than the two. At least where they are played on the Denmark national team. While Michael could always improve a team, his contribution to this team would not be much greater than that of Eriksen or even youngster Damsgård, whereas Brian would make Denmarks breakaway game a lot more deadly and would give the side a lot more threat in deep behind the opponents backline. He also had an excellent passing and good crossing game, far better than the current two. So would be able to service the team better. Overall he would be the player, from the past, that improve the team the most. Imho ofc. Being Danish and football interested.
Agustin Delgado also a shout for Ecuador as Alberto Spencer's on the ball ability was on par with Enner Valencia. Delgado possessed much of the technical and passing abilities of the modern forward today whilst being an amazing poacher too which would suit Ecuador's current team playstyle.
I have to disagree because I'd cite pure ability. Delgado was half-decent on his day (even if Gordon Strachan hated him), but still... Spencer is an easy choice x
Dude, I'm from Ecuador. Delgado was not even CLOSE to being as good as Spencer. Spencer was truly one of the deadliest strikers on the planet at one point. You probably meant well, but this is simply a misguided take.
@@rodycaz8984 @MrsD Man for man Alberto is a much better player for sure however, he would not suit our style of play right now as most of his goals were from headers and we don't favour that style of play. Alberto Spencer would've done amazingly well with our 2006 world cup squad as we loved a good cross back in those days (Ulises DLC, Valencia, mendez, ambrossi)
surprised you did not say vidić for serbia considering the biggest problem area in the team is the defence (while the midfield and offence are quite hyped).
Very weird pick for Switzerland IMO. Seferovic isn't expected to be in the starting 11 so singling him out (again) as the weak link is already weird, and even if that was the case no other player then Alex Frei should even be considered in that position. Other (more recent) options would be Berahmi for Sow in midfield or most crucially Lichtensteiner at fullback seing as Switzerland are hugely lacking in that position.
Hugo Sanchez was a phenominal CLUB player. but it never translated to the National Team, I would not bring him in. If you are looking to bring a forward for Mexico it would have to be Jared Borgeti or Cuactemoc Blanco. Borgeti was a lethal goal scorer and clinical inside the box. and Cuauctemoc was a magician, he would be able to get Martin to score goals and alwasy carried the Mexican team on his back.
For Portugal I think I'd take Figo over Eusebio. Figo was pretty amazing at pushing the game forward and making sure it moves and if you saw Portugal's last few games they have a real problem with flow and pushing the ball from defense to the front.
Not a bad point but that problem seems more tactical than personnel wise. Bernardo Silva, João Félix, and Bruno Fernandes more less fill that role. I'd rather take another central midfielder as Alfie usually does.
For the US, I’d have probably picked Brian McBride, Brad Freidel, or a trio of defenders- Bocanegra, Marcelo Balboa, or Eddie Pope, I think all of those guys would improve the squad a lot.
Given that the concept is to replace people with peak versions of former legends, I think an argument could be made for Portugal's best bet to be replacing Cristiano Ronaldo with... Cristiano Ronaldo. Throwing him in a time machine and putting like the 2015-ish version of him out there with the rest of the current squad would be an interesting option.
I’m Aussie 🇦🇺 but for USA 🇺🇸 I’d pick Tim Howard. His prime is the game vs Belgium 🇧🇪 where he got the most saves in a World Cup match. More then Neuer, Casillas and Yashin. If you count 1 game as a prime then he’s my pick.
This bringing back a legend thing draws attention to the fact that teams don't have players..there is a player drought and its serious..the future is highly dependant on MBappe for some of the football insanity that we used to have on the Ronaldo Nazario era..
in any situation, any brazillian great could make the team great Ronaldo, Romario, Rivaldo, Roberto, Pele, Ronaldinho, Socrates, Garrincho, Jairzinho. it’s crazy man, just crazy
David Villa would be a good addition to the Spain squad. His goal scoring and his playing style suits the Spanish team. Spain have missed a player like him since he retired
@@aplman7099 my point is, Villa had such a huge impact on Spain compared to Puskas, Puskas played 90% of his games for Hungary as he was Hungarian, he only played for Spain a couple times because at the time they were involved in bigger games as far as I know and it nearing his retirement. Puskas over Villa for a Spanish legend is literally psychotic to me.
For Belgium, Kompany is a good pick, Paul Van Himst would have been justified as well, but i feel like alot of players are overlooked here. Eric Gerets for example, who won the CL with PSV and was a regular for AC Milan for a while. Ludo Coeck who won the Europa League twice with Anderlecht and played for Inter Milan afterwards. Pfaff, goalkeeper of Bayern Munchen, most expensive goalkeeper during his time. Players such as Enzo Scifo, Luc Nilis, Preud'homme, Jan Ceulemans, Julien Cools etc... Deserve a mention as well. There's a few more, but these are the ones that come to mind.
Picked Gerets for Belgium at previous tournaments, but I think centre-back is a bigger issue now. Picking a goalkeeper would seem a bit mad to me given that Belgium have arguably the best 'keeper in the world right now!
@@HITCSevens You're right, i kinda misread the title. If we could bring back a legend for the current tournament, Kompany would be a great pick. There's a few honorable mentions at Centre-back, such as: Georges Grun: Won the Europa League with Parma, won the UEFA cup with Anderlecht and was part of the Belgian team that reached the WC semi-final in 1986. Philippe Albert: Won the UEFA supercup with KV Mechelen and played for both Fulham and Newcastle Utd afterwards. Walter Meeuws: Won a league title with Ajax, reached the final of the Europa League with Antwerp and was part of the Belgian team that reached the final of Euro 1980. Stéphane Demol: Won multiple league titles and played for clubs such as : FC Porto, Anderlecht, Bologna, Toulouse and Braga. Also part of the Belgian squad that reached the semi-final at WC 1986. And ofcourse Daniel Van Buyten and Thomas Vermaelen deserve a mention as well. Some great defenders, but you're right, Kompany is definitely the best choice.
a documentary on the afc Wimbledon on the nine promotions in eleven years, how they’re a fan own club and how they have a stadium in plough lane now. The story of they lost the club, how the F A allowed that and won’t allow that anymore. How they were very close to moving to ireland How they went up the English football leagues. @HITC Can you do a video on one player for each World Cup team that was harshly omitted for example Tomori for England, Schlupp for Ghana, Renato Sanches for Portugal, Zach Steffen for USA and etc please?
For Uruguay I would bring back Alvaro Recoba who is my favorite Uruguayan player of all time. He only played in one World Cup which was the 2002 World Cup where Uruguay narrowly lost out in the group stage just like at this World Cup. Adding a 2002 Recoba to the current team could had got them out the group stage. For the Netherlands I would had picked a prime 2006 version of Edwin Van Der Saar because the goalkeeper position is the Netherlands' weakness and the would had stood a better chance of beating Argentina on penalties if he was in goal.
First viewer I am and the legend for my beloved France is obviously Zinedine Zidane sir for sure as he would easily dictate our midfield as a leader and not exactly for Hugo Lloris boss, good friends!!!Regardless, his respective inclusions in all the respective FIFA World Cup teams are spotted on,good friends!!!:-D
Well, Micheal Laudrup is a fine choice for Denmark but everyone knows that we need an out and out center forward. And who better that the one and only: LORD BENDTNER!?!?!?!?! How disrespectful not to pick the Lord!
Way too many strikers\attackers being selected in this when most of the teams problems are in midfield. Someone needs to provide the opportunities for these selections to score!
France, we would need a midfield engine like Zidane or Makélélé to compensate for Pogba or Kante not being here. Or, to replace Kimpembe, someone like Blanc, Desailly or Tresor
@@daarom3472 maybe engine wasn't the right term, but his creativity and vision was what made France work during his time and without him, they seemed lost. And I do agree with Viera, but I think Makélélé would slide into Kanté's role nicely

Funny enough, Sanchez was part of the absolute wordt Mexico squad ever, losing all three of their world cup matches. I forget the year but he was there. Somewhere in the 70s I believe

Fair enough. Great list. Our order are a bit different, but we agree on 8 out of the 10 names.
1. Pele (I might switch the top 2 someday)
2. Messi (Pelé and Messi are clearly ahead of the rest in my opinion)
3. Di Stéfano (The most complete footballer of all time)
4. Beckenbauer (The greatest defensive player of all time)
5. C. Ronaldo (The greatest goalscorer of all time)
6. Maradona (His lack of consistence and the fact the never won the European Cup or the Copa Libertadores means he miss out on the top 5)
7. Cruyff (His national team record is pretty much just about the 1974 Fifa World Cup. All the other players in the top 6 at least won a something with their national teams. But 3-7 are pretty close in my opinion).
8. Ronaldo Nazario (He could have been in the mix with the other, but his problems with injuries, weight, fitness and his missing CL title means I can't put him higher than 8th.)
9. Lothar Matthaus (With the exception of Beckenbauer all the names in my top 8 are primarily offensive minded. I then decided to leave the last two spots the most the complete - not primarily offensive minded - midfielder and the most complete defender of all time)
10. Paolo Maldini

Honorable Mentions: Gerd Muller, Michel Platini
No doubt a prime Eusebio would be a massive upgrade to Portugal for this World Cup. But there's another hipothetical upgrade that would be as good or even better, and without bringing anyone in. That would be to rejuvenate Pepe and Cristiano 10 years, back to 2012 form, or even 5 years, back to 2017. That, I think would make Portugal nº1 favourites for Qatar 22.
Eusebio better than Ronaldo, and more of a team player
Never before were we in more desperate need of a man like Gerd Müller. Well done, this one.
Think Park Ji-sung for South Korea deserved a mention too.
suker is a no brainer for croatia. one of the most calm and composed strikers ever. never missed a penalty (took 37 in his career)
Neil Franklin was my mum's uncle, I never met him as he had passed before I was born but its nice to see him mentioned :)
You know Alfie wrote a book on him?

Yes
Best German players in the premier league of all time. (Day 412)
I will not give up until the video is made or Alfie himself tells me to stop.
Tim Howard for the USA. Maybe Brian McBride also. Both in their primes would be massive upgrades at GK and ST over what is currently there
I would say Clint Dempsey would be in the mix as well because of his versatility in a front line and clinical finishing when it matters most.
@@Themvpaul17 Oguchi Onyewu would probably be in the mix too
I was thinking of recommending this type of video for Alfie to make again following the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020 editions but I guess it was already in the process of being created.
Surely Portugal's best option is replacing Ronaldo with prime Ronaldo??? ^^
Qatar has Emerson Sheik. He's born in Brazil but played professionally for the qatari national team.
VIDEO IDEA: 7 Greatest comebacks from serious injury
@@tpgorman15 Unless he had chosen Bert Patenaude, I don't see why you wouldn't go with one of our best players of the past 30 maybe even 40 years.
My picks would be Landon Donovan, Tab Ramos or Claudio Reyna.
@@golden.lights.twinkle2329 it's hard to pick any of those guys when the flanks and the midfield are the biggest strength of the current squad.
I'd rather have a 41 year old John Terry than Harry Maguire to be honest
Or Tony Adams
@Loosethecow Not the best, but he gives it his best shot, and I like it too
Everyone would prefer terry over Maguire
Harry maguire is now arguably our best defender at the wc lol
Maguire is now England's best player in the world cup🤣🤣

01:42 LOL - not sure what Argentina flag you used, but half the sun is missing. It looks quite cool, though!
Props for the Errol Daniels shoutout, in Costa Rica. Not many people talk about the guy anymore, even here
Cafu at right back for Brazil for me. But sure Pele was a decent player i guess. :)
Cruyff is very hard to overlook but i would go with van de sar as i think we are a world class goalkeeper away form the world cup
Even though everyone would pick Pelé or R9, I would pick a left or right back for Brazil. Someone like Carlos Alberto, Junior or Leandro would elevate the team to another level. Roberto Carlos or Cafu are great options too.
Or we just Upgrade Neymar to Ronaldinho.
Australia should be Tim Cahill no questions needed
For Morocco, it should be a no brainer: Larbi Ben Barek
Good to see you know about John Charles
I think for Brazil the Ovb choice was Cafu or Carlos Alberto
Romario.
The guy with long blonde har was good, forget his name.
I was also thinking Figo or Deco (for similar reasons). An incredible attacking midfield makes strikers look elite.
Isn't Ronaldo Portugal's goat? Surely you'd take him in his prime over Figo.
@@chrisbaker7760 bring BACK, Ronaldo is still playing or at least was for this wc
For the US, I’d have probably picked Brian McBride, Brad Freidel, or a trio of defenders- Bocanegra, Marcelo Balboa, or Eddie Pope, I think all of those guys would improve the squad a lot.
Tab Ramos.
@@golden.lights.twinkle2329 Nah, midfield is definitely the team's strength. Not even sure Ramos would be a starter in this group.
Roberto carlos or didi in this brazil team would be incredible
Slotting in zico instead of paquetá mmmmm ❤️
This bringing back a legend thing draws attention to the fact that teams don't have players..there is a player drought and its serious..the future is highly dependant on MBappe for some of the football insanity that we used to have on the Ronaldo Nazario era..
in any situation, any brazillian great could make the team great
Ronaldo, Romario, Rivaldo, Roberto, Pele, Ronaldinho, Socrates, Garrincho, Jairzinho.
it’s crazy man, just crazy
Hidetoshi Nakata was a solid choice for the Samurai Blue but Captain Tsubasa gets my nod.
Vincent Kompany for belgium
I would love to see you do a video of every wc1990 Ireland player and rate them to the 2002wc Irish squad
David Villa would be a good addition to the Spain squad. His goal scoring and his playing style suits the Spanish team. Spain have missed a player like him since he retired
i was thinking puskas for spain, he could do a job in their squad
Real talk, I think Villa was the true star of the team around the early 2010s.
@@aplman7099 he is Hungarian, he only played like 4 times for Spain lol
@@realkaibr yeah but still a legend that played for spain
There's a few honorable mentions at Centre-back, such as:
Georges Grun: Won the Europa League with Parma, won the UEFA cup with Anderlecht and was part of the Belgian team that reached the WC semi-final in 1986.
How they were very close to moving to ireland
How they went up the English football leagues.
It would be a good documentary video if you can do this. #thepeopleschannel
@HITC Can you do a video on one player for each World Cup team that was harshly omitted for example Tomori for England, Schlupp for Ghana, Renato Sanches for Portugal, Zach Steffen for USA and etc please?
inb4: England = Rio Ferdinand (or Sol Campbell?) 😂
...ah right, the player Alfie wrote a book about, I forgot :D
For Uruguay I would bring back Alvaro Recoba who is my favorite Uruguayan player of all time. He only played in one World Cup which was the 2002 World Cup where Uruguay narrowly lost out in the group stage just like at this World Cup. Adding a 2002 Recoba to the current team could had got them out the group stage. For the Netherlands I would had picked a prime 2006 version of Edwin Van Der Saar because the goalkeeper position is the Netherlands' weakness and the would had stood a better chance of beating Argentina on penalties if he was in goal.
Great picks, aside from the obvious pele and Maradona there where some surprises
Also, I would shout-out José Luis Brown as a possible candidate for Argentina, looking at their defense
You’d rather have JLB than Dani Pasarella?
Why? Their defense is strong.
25:00 Mané indeed has officially withdrawn from the WC 😔
I would argue to bring Vidic for Serbia, since their weakest part of the team is defence , but hey Dzajic is good idea too ngl

How disrespectful not to pick the Lord!
YES!?
Way too many strikers\attackers being selected in this when most of the teams problems are in midfield. Someone needs to provide the opportunities for these selections to score!
Croatia team and you pick Yugoslav player? Šuker, Bokšić, Olić, Pršo, Eduardo, all great Croatian strikers you could have picked.

Probably brazil, they are already favorites to win it, add in pele, one of the greatest players of all time and you have a recipe for success.
Maradona and Messi in the same team would be kinda strange
Probably wouldn't work one will have to take the backseat
France, we would need a midfield engine like Zidane or Makélélé to compensate for Pogba or Kante not being here. Or, to replace Kimpembe, someone like Blanc, Desailly or Tresor
Zidane wasn't a midfield engine though. Also Vieira > Makelele.
@@daarom3472 maybe engine wasn't the right term, but his creativity and vision was what made France work during his time and without him, they seemed lost.
And I do agree with Viera, but I think Makélélé would slide into Kanté's role nicely
Hugo Sanchez was always ass for Mexico, Rafael Marquez was the obvious choice for Mexico here. Shit if you want to add a striker you could add Jared Borgetti
Funny enough, Sanchez was part of the absolute wordt Mexico squad ever, losing all three of their world cup matches. I forget the year but he was there. Somewhere in the 70s I believe
Ream/Zimmerman will probably be the CB pairing. Zimmerman is actually good don’t let the fact that he’s in MLS detract from that.
Dwayne De Rosario for Canada, I say he was the better of the two in the last 20 years
