    Nice video! I was TD (Technical Director) for a live venue where we used 8 live cameras and some HyperDecks output to 12 tv-screens and a projector - in the bar - On the stage and also in the left and right walls of the venue. What we ended up with was one of those Smart VideoHubs, that have 20x20 where you can connect 20 SDI input sources and rout them to whater of the 20 SDI output you want. Its a lifesaver when dealing with multiple screens and also it solves your Multiview "problem" so you dont need to use your in/out on the mixer itself. For ME2 I would think the 20x20 (They also have 12x12 and 40x40) would be a perfect match as you can input every 14 outputs from the switch into the VideoHubs input and still have 6 extra input to spare ))
    For the average viewer I will also mention if you use HyperDeck for videoplayback and connect it to the atem network, you can configure it (In the ATEM software for MAC/PC) to start playback automatic the instant you put the input live, saving you the hassle of starting the clip and then bring it live. It will do it for you at the instant you push either mix or cut. You will also specify the exact clip that will be played back in the menu. Witch can also be pre programmed using the macro functions should you need to change the clip that is played multiple times during a live show using multiple macros. One for ever clip))

    Thx for actually putting prices rather than just hours. Cuz each tech person is different hourly. You’ve inspired me on events that I’m doing soon. Alas my clients are paying for one or two techs. So techs have to be super good at all parts. The pre-planning charge is one most of us don’t charge enough for. We forget how much time spend on emails and tel calls. Thx

    Thank you so much for including your pricing. To many people think you shouldn't talk about pricing which doesn't make sense to me when the conference/client probably knows what your competitors charge because they have shopped around.

      Thanks for watching. The pricing will adjust from conference to conference and the important thing to note is that this event had an AV company supplying staging, pipe and drape, lights, etc. so a lot of these expenses were things that I could have billed for and brought my own vendors (and take some off the top) but I didn't for this one since the AV company brought us on for the streaming side.

      It's going to be a very busy event for this one so we may not have the time to cover behind the scenes on site. We're partnering with some very large institutions and TV networks to provide streams to them as well so it'll be an all hands on deck kind of day. But if possible I might get a quick video on site during the setup day.

But we still use a lot of computers for bringing in client PowerPoints that come in last minute, supplying presenter view to confidence monitors and for bringing in zoom virtual guests. Unfortunately PP wouldn’t do that for us.

    Re mix minus, due to a magic smoke drama, I now use left and right channels to same effect and is easy to explain to people etc remotely. the magic smoke escaped from a mixer minutes before an event that forced a change, that im now doing for all events.
    Basically only had a dumb mixer, but to get a mix minus effect I had the room speakers connected to the "Left" output, and Blackmagic web presentor connected to right output.
    As none of my events basically ever consume content in stereo have accepted way easier to just do it as mono going forward.
    So local microphones, media PC, NDI outputs etc are "center" on mix, but feed for zoom PC is 100% left etc.

      @@cspictures788 I would conduct a site survey in advance of the event, discover that there is no internet and simply not give them that option with that particular venue. I hold a certain level of quality that I require for the events I work and I don't want to put myself in a jeopardized scenario where I'm relying on a hotspot or similar. I can't guarantee it will work on event day once they pack hundreds of people in the room all with cell phones connecting to local towers. At that point maybe you could explore using Starlink but I simply wouldn't risk it and just tell the client it's not a good idea. We'd work with them to pre-record anything and play it back live in person.

    I’ve stopped doing mix minus to the zoom call, so long as you take audio in and out of the same machine Zoom does a good job of mix minus and can simplify the routing.

    You always want to have a back up machine for at least your Playback and stream machines. How you routed your MV gives you some nice flexibility but unless your planning on having to change where sending the feed i would just use a DA. I can't remember if its Mitti or Millumin that has a built in timer that you can use. I would never risk sending any video feed wirelessly regardless of how unlikely it is to have a problem, run the copper and know your good. I like watching your videos. Glad to see your getting bigger gigs.

    Hi Zephan, why do you need to route your 2 MV? If you use a huge screen to display your MV you can use à 4 multiView (from BMD), using the 1 & 3 for multiview, anec 2 & 4 IN for preview other sources). :-) Have fun, I'd like to see the final prod...

      I'm using Constellation 8K, COnstellation 2ME and Atem Mini for my prod. For your record, it's easier to use an Atem Mini pro to resend a feed to zoom...

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 года назад +1

      By routing multiview back into the atem I can now feed it to any of my 12 outputs. So I send it first to the two smaller screens built into my rack case which my techs at the back table may use for monitoring the show (I’m going to have a zoom tech pinning speakers and a video playback tech managing videos and countdown timers) so it’s one more multiview screen for my team to be able to see and then typically the multiview for ME1 is routed to my 21” multiview monitor that I use predominantly for switching. But I’ve also had times where we have a tech back stage that wants to see the multiview so in order to feed that to them I would need another multiview output. You cannot route multiview to any of the 12 assignable outputs on the constellation 2ME so you must feed multiview into the atem first as an input.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  6 месяцев назад

      Ha might have to get my audio guy in for that one. I hire out audio engineers for my livestreams so I can focus on what I do best. Mix minus is very simple if you have an audio mixer that can provide auxiliary outputs so it’s gotta be a digital mixer.
      It’s simply having one mix for your livestream with all of the audio in it and a separate mix going to your virtual guest that doesn’t include their own audio. Otherwise they’d hear themselves. You want them to hear everyone else speaking, just not their own voice.

    I rarely leave comments on videos, especially negative ones. Maybe I'm missing something or not understanding the situation. However, I feel compelled to say that I find the pricing you shared to be absolutely ridiculous. $15k for a one-day, two-cam conference with one Zoom channel? Maybe the pricing is just very different from where I am to where you are, but I would've done the same project for 1/3 that price and been thrilled. It's really frustrating to see other production companies souring the market with overpricing like this. I guess kudos to you for convincing someone to pay that much but man - I found this to be super disappointing.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  Год назад

      One could flip the script and say it’s really discouraging to see people underpricing and undervaluing what they bring to the table. People that undercharge are undercutting the professionals that put on a high quality event. There are companies that would charge 3-5X what I’m charging. My prices are in line with industry standards for what we’re bringing to the table. You may see it as just “two-cam conference with one Zoom” I see it as hours upon hours of planning and consulting to make the event run smoothly (billable time), multiple crew members from camera ops to video playback to lighting to audio technicians running a mixer to audio technicians to put mics on the talent, stagehands and floor directors to make sure everyone gets up on stage at the right time, time for loading up equipment and traveling sometimes hours or even days to the venue.
      I can see how it can be discouraging to see others charging far more than you might be doing but it is truthfully based on the value and expertise (and team) we’re bringing to the table.
      I like to think of it like this: if you want a cheeseburger you could go to McDonald’s and spend what? $5? Or you could go to a Michelin star restaurant and spend hundreds. Then there’s everything in between. With one experience (the cheaper one) you’re more likely to deal with someone making $12 an hour who might drop your burger on the floor and still put it back on the plate. With the other you might have a chef flying in Waygu beef from Japan costing thousands of dollars per pound. Then there’s everything in between. Our prices fall in that middle ground. We’re not the cheapest and we’re not Michelin star. But we’re going to provide a white glove service product every time and we charge accordingly with others in the industry that are providing the same results.
      There’s always going to be someone out there who can do it cheaper. Is it a better experience? Rarely. Not all clients make their buying decisions solely on price. The clients we work with have already made the decision that they want to work with us due to our large network of referral partners and past clients who trust us. It’s just a matter of determining in what way will they work with us.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  Год назад

      I also wanted to add this conference I shared with you was a massive financial conference that partnered with major organizations that spent big money to make it happen. When you’re bringing a crew of people, you’re working with a whole new level of money in the events and conference space.
      We provided live feeds to major news outlets and television stations. It’s more than just a livestream. We had at least three broadcasts depending on our cameras, our graphics, our video playbacks and our whole team to stream to places like Bloomberg, MSNBC and more.
      You mostly won’t see those companies talk about pricing like this on RUclips. That’s why I share it. This industry can pay handsomely and can really provide you with a lifestyle you never thought was achievable and clients are happy to pay our prices. They deem them fair and competitive. We’re located on the east coast of the US but travel throughout the country. I’ve seen prices multiple times what we charge both in central and western US.
      With that said, I get it. It’s discouraging to see that you could be making a lot more. Sounds like it’s a good time to invest in learning how to sell, building a team so you can provide a higher quality end product (and end result for the client) and continuing to build a network of people that can refer higher end projects to you.

    • @AaronKothe
      @AaronKothe Год назад

      @@zephanmoses Fair enough. I do appreciate that you shared pricing and agree that not many other companies do so.
      The market is probably very different in DC than St. Louis, MO, where I am. Still - I'm certainly not an 'expert' but I'm at the point in my business where I'd put my team and our expertise up against anyone. We could deliver a professional, high-quality end product and do so for much less. We're not Michelin-starred either but we're far from McDonald's.
      I suppose I'm thinking of the number of opportunities we miss because potential clients assume professional event production always requires a huge budget, and therefore won't even entertain the thought of hiring a production company. It's hard to sell a service when most potential clients assume it's way out of their price range. I feel like our industry has a bad rap for being too expensive and this seems to reinforce that to me. But again, I'm sure the market is very different geographically.

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  Год назад

      @@AaronKothe it’s a pretty common misconception that it changes geographically. My team has traveled with me from NY to Orlando to Raleigh NC to San Francisco, all the way to Ames Iowa and yes we’ve travelled to MO for work too. The pricing has been widely accepted across the board. If you’re into reading I recommend reading Dan Kennedy’s Wealth Attraction but fair warning you’ll probably feel uncomfortable for a bit if your mind isn’t open to the ideas.
      While you won’t win every single bid, we’ve seen that the price isn’t the major factor here. It’s about can you show the client the value in what you bring to the table? Sales can be slimy or it can be easy. Our sales conversations focus around the client’s end result. It’s not about doing it for less. You’re robbing yourself of success when you don’t charge your worth and it slows your ability to grow your company.

    Not using day rates for labor?

    • @zephanmoses
      @zephanmoses  2 года назад

      They are day rates when I bill them to the client so on the final invoice it's shown as a date rate. I'm just breaking down the hourly pricing to show the difference in what we charge per position. For example a camera op we charge $125/hr and might pay $75-90/hr and a production assistant we might charge $100/hr but pay $35-50/hr. Just trying to show people where it all comes from but yes we'd be doing usually a 5-hour half day or 10-hour full day rate in the end.
