  • We are excited to present a first for 'Big Sound Small Town - The Podcast' …a video version of the podcast interview!
The inspiration for this undertaking was our special guest artists who make their home just up the road in Cherryville, NC...multiple award winners, and regulars at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville (appearing more than 30 times), Darin & Brooke Aldridge.
We have collaborated to celebrate the release of their latest album - This Life We’re Livin’, which will be released this Friday, November 6th, 2021, featuring the Country Music Hall of Fame members "The Oak Ridge Boys" on a song. Also among the new tunes is a very special song they co-wrote for the new album which celebrates the Grand Ole Opry and the significance it holds in their lives entitled "The Grand Ole Circle".
Darin was named the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Mentor of the Year in 2017 for his efforts at teaching and mentoring youth on guitar and mandolin and for giving unselfishly of his time and talents at public events at places like the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby, NC.
On October 1st, 2020 Brooke was named the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year for the 4th consecutive year and is currently nominated for her 5th Female Vocalist Award to be decided this September 30th at the Bluegrass Convention in Raleigh, NC. She is presently tied with the legendary Alison Krauss for the third most Female Vocalist of the Year wins in total and the second most consecutive wins in the IBMA’s history behind legend and Grand Ole Opry member Rhonda Vincent.
The honors continue to accumulate as they are also nominated by the International Bluegrass Music Association on the final ballot for Vocal Group of the Year for 2021.
Give their story a listen as they recount the many interesting experiences of discovering the musical path early in life, as well as events leading up to the first time they met. It is a fascinating tale of growing and learning, of hard work and determination…and of the many folks who have supported them along the way.
Cleveland County residents will enjoy hearing the stories of local legendary locations such as “the bomb shelter” and pivotal personalities in this area.
