The owner would loose more money spending the day in court vs paying employees salary to go plus expenses. Every business does that, just the bigger ones send their lawyers instead.
Particle board = compressed sawdust. I doubt the screws can be screwed back in and, if they can, that they will hold any better than they did. Those screw holes are very likely bare holes now.
Those rails/tracks that hold up drawers are held in with screws obviously but when the screws are screwed into particle board they really don't have good grip.
200$? 248 with tax and delivery? Did anyone ever take into account that she didn't pay for installation and by doing it herself it was bad. I have that same dresser. I don't recommend it. It has terrible reviews on Amazon
Its a crap dressr made from crap material. It's not smart to buy it, but the guy was a middle man and has no idea how to repair these things. Just my opinion.
In her recording the owner clearly says, "it hasn't been a year yet". In Australia a lot of companies try the 90 day warranty, it may work on some people but a complaint to Consumer Affairs will soon get you a refund, most goods are expected to last at least 12 months.
It grinds my gears when they give the judge paperwork saying that it’s going to say something, and it says absolutely nothing about what she’s asking for… as if she’s not going to read it.
It sounds like the Plaintiff has family. No one could've come over with a screwdriver and Elmers glue and fixed that cheap dresser? Man, do people waste the courts time. A lawsuit over it? Uggg.
She bought cheap furniture, why is the judge not calling her on this or asking who put it together, then the judge gives her over half of the price of a cheap Wal-Mart dresser....is this where terrible judges go..tv
You’re faulting the plaintiff for buying a “cheap” dresser?? At the end of the day, she paid her money for the dresser that the place was selling. The cost doesn’t matter. If that’s the case the place should not be selling “cheap” furniture. 🙄
@@tashiaredd3421 Yes it is her fault. She went into the store and felt the materials so there’s no excuse there if she bought it off Amazon I’d be more lenient. There’s a reason cheap furniture sells vs expensive furniture. I’ve learned my lesson and only buy high quality furniture
...One of these days somebody's going to come in that furniture store and kick Forest Whitaker's butt for him, if he keeps selling that sorry furniture.
I wonder who gets the appearance fee? In this case the defendant is the store, not the person who actually appeared. Sad if he gets all the crap and suffers all the ignominy but the boss gets the dough.
If the screws fell out of CHIP board they aren't going to stay in even if you try to screw them back in. It sounds like the screws wore through the chipboard. About the only way to fix that is to glue the screws in now. Chipboard furniture is absolute garbage and that's about all there is out there now unless you have furniture custom made, buy antiques that are SOLID wood or go to a very expensive store and pay $2K for a dresser. The world has fallen into an import/junk trap and now we no longer have quality products like we did years ago. A bygone era and I'm glad I grew up in it and only own solid wood furniture to this day.
@@B.H.56 I know, isn't that a joke. I guess after their garbage falls apart within a year or more and you've already sold or given away Grandma's solid furniture then they can buy some more garbage and keep donating their money to China or Vietnam, etc..
We got a custom dresser to match our bed frame. Other than the cheap backboard it’s beautiful and the drawers are smooth as butter. If you can do it, it’s definitely worth it if they’re good. We ordered a tv stand too later on from them and while it was nice they didn’t take our needed measurements to heart and my husband let them change them and so some things weren’t easy to insert inside the thing. But it was well made with nice glass doors.
Particle board? If she put anything heavy in the drawers over time the repetitive motion could have stripped the screw holes. Even with wood glue it's gonna fall apart again. Clothes only in those kind of drawers to make it last.
The plaintiff was really adamant about the dresser. Most people would have realized it was a low quality dresser that is only designed for light use with clothes, and not built to last and left it at that. Perhaps she could have gone in the store and exchanged it for a different one if it was within the warranty period. The plaintiff is fortunate that the judge thought she deserved a longer warranty , otherwise she would have lost .
I kind of feel for this lady not understanding that particle board is not durable. It's basically pressed together sawdust and every time you open and close the drawer the screws are probably going to wear away at the material. There's honestly no way to really fix that. I think she thought her money should have gone farther but really what she bought wasn't quality.
Girl, if you’re going to buy cheap just get on Amazon or somewhere with good return policies/customer service. Wayfair is great for that, but just make sure the item isn’t overpriced because most are there. Sometimes it’s worth it for security if the difference is minimal. But sometimes the difference is hundreds. They’ve sent entire replacements and let me keep the damaged item too. They aren’t annoying and make you go through hoops for partial refunds either like Walmart with furniture (avoid for furniture like the plague imo) or Amazon (some sellers offer them but you have to contact them directly or be contacted by them after a negative review on the seller; not item) Granted you’d have to assemble but it’s not clear if that was the case here. Whoever assembled it didn’t seem to do a good job whoever it was. Wayfair also has the option to pay someone to assemble it. idk how that works in terms of area restrictions and stuff as I like to assemble stuff 🤷♂️
why is the sales associate showin up for the owner who's bein sued? why is milian allowin the sales associate 2 be in the courtroom instead of the owner? circus court @ the ppl's court as always.😑😑😑

I hate it when an owner of a business gets sued then uses an employee as a scapegoat defendant to "deal" with the lawsuit. Just plain laziness.
The Defendants in all these cases don't pay damages. In fact, they are paid $250.00 to appear. So they don't really care one way or another.
jus as long as ppl are paid for these lame cases.
Not lazy they wise.. they don’t want their face plastered in public, people won’t remember a name but a face is UNFORGETTABLE
Or it’s not worth their time why waste a day in court when you could be managing multiple locations and pay like $150 for an employee to go

FYI, Doug is the one that sees them when it is over, Harvey is the guy outside asking bystanders their opinions.

I don't recommend anything made of particle board.
Who said she put it together herself? I’m sure JM asked that question, otherwise she would have used that against the plaintiff. JM is not stupid.

Thats why I always try to buy antique. Then its made out of better material, you can repair it and the longer it sets there the more its worth.
