- Ford Jeep were produced for WWII almost 300,000 of them.
Willys gets credit for the Jeep but Ford had some differences and some are shown in this video.
The owner and GI WWII Re enactor shows some special details most might not notice.
This was at Lauer Farm in Lima Ohio October 2021
Loving the vintage Jeeps! I am currently restoring a 1947 CJ2A.
I would love to have one !!!
รถยนต์ งดงามมากเลย ครับ
Love the flat fenders I had 3 Jeep’s one flat fenders 1 CJ5 & 1 CJ7 but my love is the flat fender.
Those are classic pieces of Americana 🇺🇸
As an owner of a 1943 Ford GPW, some research I came across:
• July 22nd, 1940, American Bantam was awarded the initial contract. They submitted the ‘Blitz Buggy’ to Baltimore thus meeting the 75 day requirement. The U.S. Army knew Bantam did not have the production capacity, or the finances available, to meet their needs during a war.
• Willys-Overland and Ford were invited to create a prototype using the blueprints from American Bantam. In a few weeks, both Ford and Willys-Overland had their vehicles designed.
• 11-13-40 Willys-Overland delivered the Willys Quad. 11-23-40 Ford delivered the Ford Pigmy. The Ford was the only one which passed the initial testing. All three companies were asked to follow the Ford design to each create 1500 prototypes. After further testing of the prototypes, the final design was submitted and thus the birth of the WW2 JEEP.
• All three companies were awarded the final contract and each vehicle got a new name:
o Willys MB
o Ford GPW
o Bantam BRC-40
Thanks for that info
Very Interesting!!!

Thanks for the input I appreciate it
I have changed editing software since this video so I can make more adjustments for sound etc and better quality video
Like the MB, Ford’s earliest models had the maker’s name embossed in script on the rear panel. The grille was of fabricated steel construction until Jan. 6, 1942. Then Ford introduced the stamped steel grille, which was later ironically registered as a trademark for Chrysler’s Jeep.
Now is that not a head scratcher! It was actually ford who first created the jeeps stamped grille! This was taken from ford's GPS book
Very Interesting Info
Love these small details with a back story!!!
Thanks
NOT A MAY 1944 GPW
The script Ford name on the rear panel was discontinued in July 1942.
John Adams-Graf photo
The script Ford name on the rear panel was discontinued in July 1942. Add 20% to the value for script jeeps.
Great Info
Thanks!!!

Ford made a GPW during WWII but never made a "Jeep." The 1st Jeep was the CJ-2A in 1945.
All were called GP by military or called Jeep by the soldiers after the Popeye cartoon if I remember correctly
@@HI-PER There are a few guesses to where the origin of the nickname came from. As far as the title of this video goes however, there never was a Ford Jeep.
@@darrenroos6408That is correct but most people just assume all WWII GPWs are Willys and are not knowledgeable like yourself 👍🏻 Thanks For Watching and I appreciate the knowledgeable viewers shared more info or corrections in the comments
Thanks Again 👍🏻
Didn't some of the equipment the germans used in the war have the Ford F on it.
I am not sure if the non Ford Jeep equipment have the Ford F or the Germans equipment either
I will need to research that 🤔
@@HI-PER Ford made a killing off the war, so did international, my father was a German soldier, he said Ford trucks were the best.
Ford did not make much due to poor management in the US and neither did their overseas plants
But they were likely some of the best trucks

Give me reply from Ford Jeep officers.
Hope I got most of it correct
The owner gave me the info so I hope it was correct 👍🏻
Thanks for Watching ❤️
That sounds like ford let’s find a way to make it cheaper
From what the owners said they were proud of there work and wanted the boys to know they had a ford
Back then Ford was the average man’s car anyone could afford
Maybe advertising to the solders as well
And more reliable
