    Land based shark fishing is picking up in popularity, but if you're new to the game, here are the must-know basics.
    Remeber....
    1) If you try to catch a shark over six feet in length, scale up your gear and don't go alone.
    2) Sharks are on the decline, so practice good, safe catch and release.
    How to make a shark fishing leader and how to rig shark fishing baits will be shown in great detail in upcoming videos.

    Best video yet. We just started fishing and we are addicted. Our first one was a 7 1/2 foot sandbar. Love how you took care of the shark, the release was great. Not dragging it everywhere. We are now tagging for NOAA. Still trying to learn to identify them. We always have the audience - we take it as an opportunity to educate if possible. I let a little girl pet the tail of a small sandbar. Her favorite animal went from a unicorn to a shark. The walking the shark back out is my favorite part. I do it for the same reason as you.

      Would you mind going to my RUclips channel, "SourceOne of RI" and look at the video "Caribbean Reef shark (possibly) Bethune Beach Park, New Smyrna Beach, FL May 20, 2020" and see what kind you think it might be? I thought it was a sandbar shark, then maybe a reef shark...still not sure.

    I've got a penn senator from the 60s I'm getting ready to put to use near the pier in Garden a City SC from the shore. Can't beat Em! Thanks papaw. I've caught a 6 ft lemon in this same area with this rig, an older fellow helped me land and clean shark Quick. We ate like kings that night and for a while..watch, learn, and be Ready for a Fight. I couldn't fish the entire next day after that fight, My arms were noodles. This is a very good tutorial, I've learned a lot myself.
    Recommendation- Take a small piece of 2x4 and a hammer and hammer your entire pole or pvc down into the sand a foot to 18". It will be stronger and easier than digging..
    Also this year Im taking my kayak to take my rig out. Great reminders. Gonna walk my Kayak out past the waves and hop on. Make Sure you can do this before trying it. It's not easy and takes finesse hit up the shore on a lake or even a pool and practice. He wasn't just trying to be entertaining...he's being literal. You'll hurt yourself, sink your boat, or both.
    Keep it up, watching from East TN.

    Absolutely amazing video. I watched this after I went surf fishing around a month ago, and I wanted to find out what else was in the ocean. I've been fishing a lot more now, and just yesterday I went out with my dad and a friend, and we caught 2 Atlantic Sharpnose sharks. They were the first sharks that both my friend and I had ever caught and released, as the only other shark I hooked shook off the line before I could land it. Thank you for this informative video, it really helped the fishing yesterday. Tight lines, and have a great day!

    I caught my first shark a few weeks ago and everybody freaked out that there was a shark at the beach and some people even asked the lifeguard to shut the beach down. I explained to them the shark is probably cranky and wants to go back home and doesn’t want anything to deal with people.

    • @Dman9fp
      @Dman9fp 4 года назад +2

      Hah that's like shutting down a road because there's fast cars that can cause death. Vast majority of sharks don't eat any more than normal fish of similar size (I know, surprised me too, but research confirmed it) & might only nibble ya if curious enough. Only tiger, bull, and white sharks can be fatal and maybe great hammer perhaps

    Very good information. There's tons of ways of doing things, but this is a good start. I don't kayak, just cast from 3rd sandbar. Use pompano, stingray, and hard heads for bait. Circle hooks, 6 oz digger weights, 1000 lb marlin wire, 400 lb mono, 65 lb braid.

    Guests visiting from the cold north love talking about being on the business end of the rod with a shark during their vacation . Use circle hooks and a good shark release tool. The skinnier the shark, the more biting range it has. Pull the tail towards you slightly when unhooking as it has to then flex the opposite way before coming towards you.

    Enjoy your videos man. I have the same passion for shark fishing as yourself. I haven't got to do any shark fishing for years do to moving away from the gulf of Mexico several years ago but in my day it was the fish I enjoyed the most. When other fisherman would curse you for catching sharks I always felt it was a pinnacle fishing to catch from the beach when casting from the surf. I also agree with you that there is no fish that will stop and gather a crowd of people who will ask questions and become interested in a fish.

    Thank you for a great and informative video. A week ago I was surf fishing for pompano on Amelia Island Florida. I was using a standard pompano rig baited with shrimp and fish gum. A while after catching a couple of keeper pompano and a few whiting I hooked into a bonnethead shark about four feet long. I got it in and released it straight away. The moral of the story is that sharks often come in very close to shore and will eat anything they find. Shrimp and fish gum is obviously not a standard shark bait.
