My friends and I whined hard about Vol'jin dying. We theorized that he died simply because he wasn't marketable and the writers had to make it make sense.
Me too, one of the most frustrating decisions they've made with a racial leader. I think they just didn't know what to do with him, but they had a bunch of (apparently very shitty) ideas for what they could do with Sylvanas. She was also by far the most popular racial leader on the Horde. They also wanted to paint the Legion as a terrifying adversary, which they accomplished by killing the High King and Warchief (and Tirion) right at the start of the expansion.
Yup, the Maw covenant hunter class ability that 1 shots, and the covenant signature ability that roots with chains that give godlike strength. Blizzard should have explained that first before she defeated Bolvar, and also how she suffered a grind to power that up. Then I wouldn't have this bad taste in my mouth over that cinematic.
To be fair, she's still somewhere out there. Pretty sure she has a connection to the void (considering she left the raid with a voidportal), and the fact that we will fight for or against the void sooner or later, we will meet her again. I'm 100% sure. So I wouldn't say she's wasted, feels more like a save up for later expansions like illidan or bolvar were. As for N'Zoth - poor soul didn't got a treatement he deserved, but so didn't C'thun or Yogg Saron. Yogg got a brilliant raid but that's it, could've got his own expansion easily. I seriously hope we will see a return of the old gods, because in lore terms, we've only destroyed their avatars (as of Yogg and C'thun) N'Zoth and Y'shaarj were both ultimately killed.

The question is why did Sylvanas went to Maw at end of WLK? At end of WLK I don’t think she done anything that is deserved to go to Maw. In fact after she dies from defending her people, she is either controlled by arthus or fighting for freedom. The plague of warth gate is not her fault. What I felt is when Uther broke the rule and throw Arthus into Maw, it create a window a small hole that made Sylvanas also skipped orbitor and fall straight into Maw.
The story writing is that bad so they come up with stuff to keep going with Sylvanas and there you go - many, many plot holes and stuff which makes no sense.
She was the one that ordered the Wrathgate betrayal, that on itself is enough. It's confirmed. Also, she betrayed Garithos (the dude was a dick but still she made deal with him), commited murder into innocent human survivors among other war crimes, and all of that before Wrath.
I felt like our characters were so damn small compared to the pathways etc in Nya'lotha, it was weird. I feel like the scale of locations in the game are generally big to the characters but this place was on crack, acid and speed on top of the regular places.
The whispers to vol'jin was an in universe retcon. They slapped that on there for shadowlands. U know damn well that was not planned when vol'jin originally died. They saw an opportunity to slap something on to old lore to twist current lore. So yea. In universe retcon.

Nyalotha could have been a Suramar, if Suramar was a whole expansion. Like zones of Madness where you character gets weird buffs with negative side effects representing the madness of it all. Vol'jin accepting the whispers of loa isn't really bad writing or anything.. he was literally a kind of voodoo priest of the loa of death.. and Mueh'zala was the original loa of death. There's nothing really strange about a dude who spent his whole life worshiping a loa, thinking that the loa was talking to him and telling him how to save his people in his final moments.

22:38 it's kinda obvious that Blizzard devs probably initially planned to make the whole old god, n'zoth, and nyalotha stuff it's own expansion.. because if you remember back at the beginning of BFA, the Blizzard devs were saying left and right.. "there are no Old Gods in BFA" and essentially promised that there would be no old god stuff in BFA.. but I assume they decided the story after (Shadowlands) was more important, so just ended up cramming the rest of BFA into 8.2, and condensing/summarizing an expansion's worth of story into a single patch with 8.3. This is why 8.2 seemed to rush and ended the story of BFA, and 8.3 has nothing to do with the rest of the expansion and why people like Jaina, Sylvanas and other important in BFA up to that point, etc, are missing from 8.3 and 8.3 was lackluster and ultra short storywise and how we defeated a powerful old god like a minor patch boss.
No. The "there is no old gods in BFA" was a meme, because it was clear from the beginning that the devs said that sarcastically like "no war in ba sing se". N'Zoth was always going to be the end boss, there was no questions about that (this is especially clear if you read the quest texts in Stormsong Valley). Now the story being rushed and the whole thing becoming a jumbled mess, thats absolutly true, but there were no "shifts" here.

should've been similar to opening Sunwell Isle, with a campaign to progress the landing of the Stabalizers around Nya'lotha, which would make more and more of the zone accessible (with your cloak allowing you to press into areas that haven't been unlocked yet but having sanity drain while doing so to do daily quests to prepare that area for landing a stabalizer (working similar to the Warfront mechanic with people doing the dailies and other turn-ins progressing counter, which then opens up a scenerio for a week or two that allows you to participate in landing the stabalizer and getting some gear) (with the Stabalizers allowing you to regenerate your sanity while in Nya'lotha and finally granting access to the raid once the Four stabalizers were in place and then need to fight through the raid to apply the final one at N'Zoth. Along with multiple zones experiencing Void attacks that work similar to the demonic/scourge invasions. And maybe even 1-2 old god themed Dungeons once 2 stabalizers were placed.
Lets be honest. This was planned. But Blizzard knew that people mostly dont like bfa, so they used the ressources for shadowlands. Start of New xpac is more likely that new players start aswell, instead of joining on the last raid Tier. So they probably thought: We can invest a lot of time and effort into making an amazing zone that probably wont change the negative view many have of bfa. So lets just put the work into shadowlands instead so people praise the xpac in start. Smart more 4Head

Thematically, Ny'alotha should have been like Coldharbour from ESO. An entire zone you are trapped within and cannot escape from. You establish or discover a place safe from N'zoth's influence and gaze. As you complete quests in the zone (focused on saving people from N'zoth's influence or saving pockets of resistance that entered before you) you unlock certain benefits that greatly benefit you in the raid proper. These could be in the forms of buffs against certain bosses, or NPCs that help you during the boss fights. Alternatively, much like Coldharbour, you can choose to take on the final effort without doing these quests and unlocking these benefits. Additionally, it could have been really cool of you could only group and do the raid with people who had completed all of the Ny'alotha quests that you had. So if you've done nothing, you can't queue with people who've done everything. Ny'alotha, for me, is tainted by the abject waste of potential.
Really, unlike Coldharbour, Ny'alotha felt void of any permanence. It's some abstract thing that can only appear in one of two old zones once a week. ALL of Azeroth should have been transformed into Ny'alotha (hence the idea of not being able to leave it until you've completed the raid)
The Val'kyr were at Darkshore cause they were raising the Night Elves into undeath, I think they're the only ones in the Forsaken that can actually do necromancy.
I believe that valkyrs are the only ones that can ress undead free of LK will, and for anyone else to ress undead (necromancers) they need power from LK and the undead are bound to LK's will. That would make alot of sense Edit: Obviously talking about harder forms of undeath to raise simce dks can ress gargoyles ghouls and things like that but thata different

I had this weird theory months back that Sylvanas is basically one of those "Greater Good" characters, like Dumbledore. Dumbledore had many plans, and even at the sacrifice of himself and many, especially Harry, he had to do what he did to get rid of ol Tommy boy and prevent even bigger problems. Sacrifice a few to save many. Same thing here. Sylvanas is making herself be the baddie for a reason and is sacrificing everyone and everything to stop whatever's coming... Obviously that DOES make her bad considering what she's done, but that's what makes a good villain.

Subverting expectations or misdirecting the audience when telling a story in my opinion is usually awful when nothing comes from it aside from just making the audience feel stupid. (Star Wars Ep. 8 and 9 for example: After 7 people were all theorizing and speculating on the mystery of who Snoke was and in 8 we got nothing but his death then in 9 he's revealed to be a bunch of puppet clones that come from pickle jars. What a waste of time to fool fans for years into thinking he was someone important.) The whole Mueh'zala whispering to Vol'jin thing I think was actually a pretty good play but, it's execution could have been done better. How? I don't know but, I feel like it was lacking in terms of setup. You ask the majority of WoW's player base or even the average lore follower who Mueh'zala is before any Shadowlands stuff was revealed and almost no one will know who you're talking about. Mueh'zala had actually been a part of the lore for a long time though, he was very obscure and only small tidbits and hints of his existence were around in the game in the form of troll tablets and other readable things hidden away in the corners of the game's world since Vanilla but, they never did anything with him until now. I'm far more surprised by the fact that Blizzard writers, considerring their track record for keeping track of lore, actually remembered Mueh'zala was a thing. They could have done more with his existence during the Wrath of the Lich King plot, maybe some involvement with the Drakkari or something since and entire zone was dedicated to troll stuff. Maybe even hinted more at his existence in BFA considerring Bwonsamedi talked about having a boss. It honestly felt more like Blizzard writers just happened to be reminded of his existence in the lore by happenstance when viewing a Nobbel87 lore video.
It baffles me to this day that having all the lore and characters of the Warcraft universe, the writers decided that that isn't enough and created a completely new afterlife universe.

The question is why did Sylvanas went to Maw at end of WLK? At end of WLK I don’t think she done anything that is deserved to go to Maw. In fact after she dies from defending her people, she is either controlled by arthus or fighting for freedom. The plague of warth gate is not her fault. What I felt is when Uther broke the rule and throw Arthus into Maw, it create a window a small hole that made Sylvanas also skipped orbitor and fall straight into Maw.
The story writing is that bad so they come up with stuff to keep going with Sylvanas and there you go - many, many plot holes and stuff which makes no sense.
She was the one that ordered the Wrathgate betrayal, that on itself is enough. It's confirmed.
Also, she betrayed Garithos (the dude was a dick but still she made deal with him), commited murder into innocent human survivors among other war crimes, and all of that before Wrath.

I felt like our characters were so damn small compared to the pathways etc in Nya'lotha, it was weird. I feel like the scale of locations in the game are generally big to the characters but this place was on crack, acid and speed on top of the regular places.

The whispers to vol'jin was an in universe retcon. They slapped that on there for shadowlands. U know damn well that was not planned when vol'jin originally died. They saw an opportunity to slap something on to old lore to twist current lore. So yea. In universe retcon.
Absolutely. There wasn't like some little whisper that we heard, no dimming of the lights, absolutely nothing to foreshadow it in any way. It was just another retcon.

Vol'jin accepting the whispers of loa isn't really bad writing or anything.. he was literally a kind of voodoo priest of the loa of death.. and Mueh'zala was the original loa of death. There's nothing really strange about a dude who spent his whole life worshiping a loa, thinking that the loa was talking to him and telling him how to save his people in his final moments.
Also the Val'kyr weren't there to fight... they were there to rez night elves into more undead... there's literally a quest to do this in Darkshore.

the whisper plot device is also stupid cause they establish that the warchief is being elected by the council of chiefs in the horde. there are other characters that are more suitable to lead a war against the legion other than sylvanas.
8 hours at last boss in nyalhota was grandious i can tell.. i came there didnt know any mechanics the group wasn't even full, that was grandious to the point we couldnt even kill the boss
22:38 it's kinda obvious that Blizzard devs probably initially planned to make the whole old god, n'zoth, and nyalotha stuff it's own expansion.. because if you remember back at the beginning of BFA, the Blizzard devs were saying left and right.. "there are no Old Gods in BFA" and essentially promised that there would be no old god stuff in BFA.. but I assume they decided the story after (Shadowlands) was more important, so just ended up cramming the rest of BFA into 8.2, and condensing/summarizing an expansion's worth of story into a single patch with 8.3.
This is why 8.2 seemed to rush and ended the story of BFA, and 8.3 has nothing to do with the rest of the expansion and why people like Jaina, Sylvanas and other important in BFA up to that point, etc, are missing from 8.3 and 8.3 was lackluster and ultra short storywise and how we defeated a powerful old god like a minor patch boss.

No. The "there is no old gods in BFA" was a meme, because it was clear from the beginning that the devs said that sarcastically like "no war in ba sing se". N'Zoth was always going to be the end boss, there was no questions about that (this is especially clear if you read the quest texts in Stormsong Valley). Now the story being rushed and the whole thing becoming a jumbled mess, thats absolutly true, but there were no "shifts" here.
@@hunterdnd the hints at n'zoth and obviously the whole queen ashara stuff, would just be setting up the next expansion. Similar to how gul'dan and the burning legion being in Draenor help to set up Legion.
should've been similar to opening Sunwell Isle, with a campaign to progress the landing of the Stabalizers around Nya'lotha, which would make more and more of the zone accessible (with your cloak allowing you to press into areas that haven't been unlocked yet but having sanity drain while doing so to do daily quests to prepare that area for landing a stabalizer (working similar to the Warfront mechanic with people doing the dailies and other turn-ins progressing counter, which then opens up a scenerio for a week or two that allows you to participate in landing the stabalizer and getting some gear) (with the Stabalizers allowing you to regenerate your sanity while in Nya'lotha and finally granting access to the raid once the Four stabalizers were in place and then need to fight through the raid to apply the final one at N'Zoth. Along with multiple zones experiencing Void attacks that work similar to the demonic/scourge invasions. And maybe even 1-2 old god themed Dungeons once 2 stabalizers were placed.
Lets be honest. This was planned.
But Blizzard knew that people mostly dont like bfa, so they used the ressources for shadowlands.
Start of New xpac is more likely that new players start aswell, instead of joining on the last raid Tier.
So they probably thought:
We can invest a lot of time and effort into making an amazing zone that probably wont change the negative view many have of bfa. So lets just put the work into shadowlands instead so people praise the xpac in start.

I find it hilarious that Platinum WoW is the only guy who actually say N'Zoth the way it should be read, IMO. En'Zoth is what it should be, cause he is an old god who are based on the Great Old Ones.
Thematically, Ny'alotha should have been like Coldharbour from ESO.
An entire zone you are trapped within and cannot escape from. You establish or discover a place safe from N'zoth's influence and gaze. As you complete quests in the zone (focused on saving people from N'zoth's influence or saving pockets of resistance that entered before you) you unlock certain benefits that greatly benefit you in the raid proper.
These could be in the forms of buffs against certain bosses, or NPCs that help you during the boss fights. Alternatively, much like Coldharbour, you can choose to take on the final effort without doing these quests and unlocking these benefits.
Additionally, it could have been really cool of you could only group and do the raid with people who had completed all of the Ny'alotha quests that you had. So if you've done nothing, you can't queue with people who've done everything.
Ny'alotha, for me, is tainted by the abject waste of potential.
Really, unlike Coldharbour, Ny'alotha felt void of any permanence. It's some abstract thing that can only appear in one of two old zones once a week. ALL of Azeroth should have been transformed into Ny'alotha (hence the idea of not being able to leave it until you've completed the raid)

The Val'kyr were at Darkshore cause they were raising the Night Elves into undeath, I think they're the only ones in the Forsaken that can actually do necromancy.
I believe that valkyrs are the only ones that can ress undead free of LK will, and for anyone else to ress undead (necromancers) they need power from LK and the undead are bound to LK's will. That would make alot of sense
Edit: Obviously talking about harder forms of undeath to raise simce dks can ress gargoyles ghouls and things like that but thata different

Why two of them? - It's faster that way (I guess). They where not there to fight, they were there to create undead - and one joined in the battle so the other could raise Delaryn and Sira in peace.
C: Sylvanas being lesbian? - ... I'd like to direct your attention to this: all Windrunner sisters choose human men to be their partners. Plus, she made a deal with the jailor... who counts as male. Just sayin' ...

In the book, Nathanos and his team kill Bwonsamdi's priests to weaken him - then they would kill him. Which would've worked since Horde players killed several loa during BfA (okay, only one but still...).

If you play the small quest line with vuljins spirit you can tell who ever whispered to him in his dying moment was more powerful than you could imagine. So no asmon it wasn't the tooth fairy.

I had this weird theory months back that Sylvanas is basically one of those "Greater Good" characters, like Dumbledore. Dumbledore had many plans, and even at the sacrifice of himself and many, especially Harry, he had to do what he did to get rid of ol Tommy boy and prevent even bigger problems. Sacrifice a few to save many.
Same thing here. Sylvanas is making herself be the baddie for a reason and is sacrificing everyone and everything to stop whatever's coming... Obviously that DOES make her bad considering what she's done, but that's what makes a good villain.

Subverting expectations or misdirecting the audience when telling a story in my opinion is usually awful when nothing comes from it aside from just making the audience feel stupid. (Star Wars Ep. 8 and 9 for example: After 7 people were all theorizing and speculating on the mystery of who Snoke was and in 8 we got nothing but his death then in 9 he's revealed to be a bunch of puppet clones that come from pickle jars. What a waste of time to fool fans for years into thinking he was someone important.)
The whole Mueh'zala whispering to Vol'jin thing I think was actually a pretty good play but, it's execution could have been done better. How? I don't know but, I feel like it was lacking in terms of setup. You ask the majority of WoW's player base or even the average lore follower who Mueh'zala is before any Shadowlands stuff was revealed and almost no one will know who you're talking about. Mueh'zala had actually been a part of the lore for a long time though, he was very obscure and only small tidbits and hints of his existence were around in the game in the form of troll tablets and other readable things hidden away in the corners of the game's world since Vanilla but, they never did anything with him until now.
I'm far more surprised by the fact that Blizzard writers, considerring their track record for keeping track of lore, actually remembered Mueh'zala was a thing. They could have done more with his existence during the Wrath of the Lich King plot, maybe some involvement with the Drakkari or something since and entire zone was dedicated to troll stuff. Maybe even hinted more at his existence in BFA considerring Bwonsamedi talked about having a boss. It honestly felt more like Blizzard writers just happened to be reminded of his existence in the lore by happenstance when viewing a Nobbel87 lore video.
