  • With a Sports bike engine and electronics , Adventure styling and riding position and equipped and ready to Tour, is the S1000 XR TE, the perfect Sports Adventure Tourer?
It is certainly a good bike , very capable and versatile , but with with such versatility comes compromise. One of the reasons that there is such an extraordinary range of bike available today is we all look for slightly different things in an all rounder. Perfect .. for some?

Great spot on review. I own a 2021 XR and have just over 20,000 miles on it so far. It ticks all the boxes for me but will say the seat does get uncomfortable after several hours and doesn’t allow for anything but minor adjustments when riding. I get 45mpg US so about 220 miles per tank of fuel so it’s decent range for such a powerful motorcycle. I’d like to see the windscreen lever on the left side vs right but that’s my only minor complaint. The valve check service at 18k miles was quite expensive but the good news was all valves were perfectly in spec. Wonderful motorcycle!

So much to like about this bike, technology, power, handling, quality of build, on and on, and at 1.83m and 108kg, all easy to cope with, but the pain in my skinny ar5s after than less than 150km, “TE” means tourer, not for me thanks!!

I'm fortunate at 64 and 5'10" to be still flexible enough to get my leg over the bike from a standing start.
However, with panniers fitted I find that placing my left foot on the left peg aids ones ability to swing your leg over without scratching the paint or the boxes.
It's relatively intuitive but if for any reason you have to mount from the rhs you need to take care to balance your body weight over the bike so as not to bring the bike tumbling across towards you, i.e. to maintain weight on the side stand.
My 32" inseam won't allow me to flat foot both feet at the same time and so I'm having to adapt my foot down technique.
