It is so important to teach children how to plant seeds & grow veggies. People just don't teach their kids this stuff anymore. Very sad. I like watching your kids learn and grow.
Great job Selah! You are a natural teacher and wonderful gardener. Micah you did so well planting and growing those micro greens. They looked delicious! ❤️🙏🏻Val C i
My parents had a garden well before I came along. My earliest memories are of carrying a pail that held water and sometimes plants in that pail. In 6th grade we had horticulture and I was the only one that knew anything about it. I've got a small container garden now and have planted several fruit trees in extra large containers here. I'm 66 and am trying my best to grow more of my own food here.
Wholeheartedly agree!! Because it’s a skill! Some people think you just plant seeds and instant food but it can take a lot of time and effort and dealing with pests and all sorts of issues like your daughter mentioned mold. There are all kinds of issues that can hinder someone’s ability to grow their own food but if they stick with it they will discover unique work arounds and ways to make their plants thrive so they will have an abundant harvest!
My grandparents and my dad taught me how to grow a vegetable and flower garden. If I did not live in a high-rise, I would continue to grow my own veggies. When I would garden, I would be in my happy place.
That was genius to add the person inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide. My daughter tested genius in 3rd grade. I believe you have a group geniuses on your hands!! I use to buy bean sprouts all the time. I stuffed them in pita sandwiches. Thanks for the inspiration little man 👍🏻 PS … photo, as in photosynthesis, means light in medical terminology. Like, if someone is photo-sensitive, it means they are sensitive to light 💡 Therefore, plants need light to synthesize carbon dioxide into oxygen. LoL I’m such a nerd 😆 Happy NYE 🎉
I was blessed to be with my grandparents who grew 90% of what they eat during growing season to last all year round and 75% of their meat. They mostly eat pork, chicken and fish that we caught out of the river. My uncles would go to the ocean(we live in the foothills of the blue ridge mountains)and fish all weekend for a freezer full and what didn't get eat, we would have a BIG family fish fry to finish it off. The uncles found this was an extra trip to the ocean to replenish the freezer!😂 I love the way y'all live and inspire others to live off the land as ALL our ansceators did at one time. Happy New Year to your wonderdul family!🎉
My wife and I were lucky enough to grow up around it, and we've continued in it. We also did the aquaponics for a bit. Nice to have fresh fish and veggies in Minnesota in January right in the garage
So true Mike. Your kids are doing an amazing job. We are now retired w/3 married kids and 16 grandkids. We raised our kids on our little homestead and they learned to walk in the garden, chasing chickens and helping their dad take care of the goats, steers, and pigs. We taught our kids to can and to butcher our own meat. Two of them live in small towns now and one lives on a small acreage of his own. All of them grown their own veggies and our youngest son has animals too. They have all thanked us for teaching them how to do these things. We enjoy gardening and taking care of animals with our grands too. Very important skills to teach children right from the get go. Besides, being outside every day and connecting with nature is a vital part of our growing and being healthy.
Wow! They are all growing up so fast! Noooo!😂 Salah are such a good teacher and very patient with your siblings. You are beautiful through and through! And the boys are growing up to be fine young men. Mike, you and Lacy both have done such a good job! I have noticed how confident they have become and have been finding their "place" on the homestead. It is so awesome to see! The little guy is so cute! He is watching! He will be a natural at it all! He doesn't know, just yet, how good he has it! Mike and Lacy, thank you for sharing your homesteading journey with me. I have been watching your channel for a number of years now and it is like fine wine... only gets better with age! I think this is one of the most important videos you have made. I used to teach in public schools gardening to preschool, special needs children. It is so important to learn, no matter what your "level" is. I am here to tell your viewers, if special needs preschool children can have a successful garden, so can you! Happy New Year! Take care! God Bless!😀
Your absolutely 💯 right about teaching every child how to grow their own food from seed. This most definitely should be part of the national curriculum in every country. Thank you so much.
I’m a grandma who used to watch her grandpa garden, very similar to Lacey’s story about her grandpa. I start a majority of my own seeds and plan to pass on the skills to my grandchildren! ❤❤❤ this video
Mike and Lacey, I loved the lesson on micro greens. Selah, I would love for your to show more especially the ones in the refrigerator that you showed in the video. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing
Amen amen Mike! So excited that we will be sharing with our first grandchild (he was born September 29 and loves the outdoors) So beneficial!!! ❤ all y’all, Kristy in Missouri 😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hello again from Sparta NC. I'm 67 and grew up around gardening!! I was out of gardening between age17 and 55. I'm now 67 and moved to Sparta 11 years ago and two years later was once again gardening. I love it!! My health has improved so much!! I've also been canning and freezing for a couple of years🙂. I watched Meg from the Hollars and started cold packing the same way!! This year I want to invest in a small greenhouse!! I love the way Walsh is so patient with her brother!! Till next time stay warm🤗
I think it's very important to teach kids where their food comes from it makes them appreciate it more.. good job teaching them a little about everything ❤
Fantastic video Dickson family. It's so amazing how God has created a symbiotic relationship with all of the creatures on our earth and of the earth itself. God is so good. Today we will be preparing our bootstrap containers for seeding and setting up a grow tent in the garage. I purchased Seed Time to help me stay organized and on time in the garden this year. I am getting ready to seed onions ❤ God Bless beautiful neighbors
I'm teaching my grandkids how to grow food, we have to containers but at least we try to grow a garden. We learning together. I just luv the time we get to spend together.
I am 60 years old now, and I only ever seen my mom grow potatoes and some back yard 🍇. She also had a few 🐔 and some 🐰 one year. But just that one year when I was 17 years old was a year l never forgot. 😂 . But I have had a couple of small garden's in my life. Now I won't a bigger one and I don't even have a yard 😢. Maybe next year. Thank you for teaching your family to plant food. They just might need it one day when family is not near them
Interesting lesson about growing food ( micro greens ) i thought that you would plant the sprouted beans and corn into a regular garden bed to grow into larger plantsto produce food .
I love you lessons! My Dad always had a nice garden, and he allowed us to work in it also. But, I did get in trouble a lot for picking the baby okra to boil! I knew I’d get fussed at, but it was well worth it.
I just love your family, ya'll are great parents and I love the way you present life on a farm and bring the Lord into it, thank you for all you do and raising such a sweet bunch of kiddos!!! luv from Star in Texas
This was a really fun episode to watch! Made me smile the whole time (all of them do though, but this was special). Hope to see more like this. The kids are real lesson teachers, thanks to all that great parenting.
Although I grew up in a huge garden, my parents did not really go for veggie growing. My dad had a HUGE orchard and that was yummy as my mom made all sorts of canned fruit , jams and leather. She loved flowers so grew that all over but I am sad we never did veggies, so had to teach myself as my kids now have to teach themselves and learn with me. It is such a valuable skill, but wqe should not forget about the othersustainable skills, like basic maintenance and sewing/knitting and cooking from scratch
Micah the Micro Man. I wish I lived closer to you, I'd come and buy some of those. I know they are delicious and that they are grown from your heart. Selah is the Master grower. What a wonderful daughter and sister you are to help everyone out. Last but not least Josiah the Genius! Hezekiah has all of them to teach him wonderful things about growing food and of course you guys right by their side. You're all so very very special and I thank God that I know you through the wonder of RUclips, but mostly I thank God that I feel like I can call you all, my Friends. Never change! You are like gold to the soul! Happy Happy New Year, and as always... Journey On!
That's so true Mike I grew up next to my grandparents that always grew a garden and my grandmother canned and had a root cellar she would call it...full of canned food...
Selah and Micah, great job! You make it look so easy! I may have to try it so I can get more homegrown greens in my diet! Also, love the family pics- God bless you all for sharing/teaching this great information!
I just shared this with my daughter for my grands. I'd love for them to get involved with this. They want to come to the boucherie one year. If y'all have any contacts of any farmsteaders or homesteaders in SEMO please share. Going to miss seeing y'all next week.
Great job. My grands help me with my garden every year. Funny story, my granddaughter's class had to draw a strawberry as part of an assignment (1st grade). My granddaughter handed hers in with full details on the entire plant. She had to explain it to her teacher.
Talk to the kids about the 'symbiotic' relationship with humans(animals) and plants. We need each other. BTW Lacy...you looked so beautiful with the lighter /blond hair in the early picture. Beautiful couple and family!
Happy 2024 … I would love to get into Tinctures . Could you please give a class on what herbs to grow, how to make a tincture and how to use? Would appreciate it. We love your channel!
Great video. TFS I had a go at micro greens last year without success. I just received my seeds: micro greens, veggies , flowers, herbs and etc. I haven’t given up and will start again. Happy new year to all and happy growing. Oh and I just received my compost bin that you recommended. I’ve been composting and gardening. since 1987. Much love from California 💕🥳🎍🎉🎈🎊
very cool! my kids learned micro greens using the 99c packs of chai seeds international aisle, normal foods-not special sales onn seeds) from food lion... just as a quick learn since they grew so well & fast. it was a great lesson, plus the packs for 99c come with so many seeds & great for us too. the kiddos were massively impressed & proud
my parents raised me outside. i have photos of my parents fishing on a pier and there i am in a playpen. and i was in a playpen in the mts, on the beach, at a lake. i raised my kids the same way. my oldest son: when he was starting to crawl and walk i would put him to bed at night in his playpen so that when he woke up before me he could not climb out of a crib or get around and get into trouble. he has his toys, baby biscuits and a bottle of water. when he and i took a nap he was in his playpen and was safe.
I think agriculture would make a great elective in schools along with bible study. Great job kids! You'll be a great influence on Hezi when he gets older.
Great video! Mike, can you recommend an ethical business I can support who sells micro green seeds? I am going to get that classroom bundle. What a fantastic idea. Thank you!
Great video as always Love your channel whanted to ask you am Interested in moving to North Carolina. I wanted to ask you if you can give any recommendations on areas that are affordable. Not looking For a huge property, just looking maybe for 1 1/2. Acres with a house already built. Currently living in Florida. Any help would be deeply appreciated.
It is so important to teach children how to plant seeds & grow veggies. People just don't teach their kids this stuff anymore. Very sad. I like watching your kids learn and grow.
It's nice to see that these kids know more about trees, CO2 & Oxygen than most adults! 👍🏾🤩🐶
Your little man is adorable he's hugging you while crying.😊
Great job Selah! You are a natural teacher and wonderful gardener. Micah you did so well planting and growing those micro greens. They looked delicious! ❤️🙏🏻Val C i
