Everyone knows about Final Fantasy 10's battle system. Switch party members in and out depending on your circunstances making it one of the best and possibly more tactical of all Final Fantasy battle systems. So what if we said "nahhhh" and threw that out of the window?? Today we are going to find out if we can beat the whole game with 1 character, of course that character will have to be the main man Tidus.

Man, I've been seeing a lot of FFX challenge videos popping up lately. Made me realize how many varied whacky ways you can play this game. I really need to get around to playing this masterpiece again.
FFX was my first JRPG as a kid at 6 years old, didn't officially beat it for the first time til I was 8 with my older brothers help lol. I still replay it at least once a year, best game of all time in my opinion. Get to it :)

There's still something so magical about the besaid theme. A mixture of hopeful and determined for the journey ahead? Idk. But thank you for choosing it for this video
I started playing FFX for the first time ever recently. Went with expert sphere grid for my first run cuz I hear it's more customisable.
Convenient timing this showed up in my recommended.

Yup. Just be careful because it will cause bugs sometimes and can crash after bosses.
I think Rikku-only would be far too easy unless you put yourself under an overdrive or customisation limit. Rikku is considered to be the most essential character on no-sphere grid runs she is that broken.
Auron and Lulu are probably the hardest. I know some might say Kimarhi but his overdrives do open many options.
You say that but she can only attack with items. I will assume that it will be easier than tidus but much more grindy. Lulu will be by far the hardest with these rules, she is so slow and has no hp. Gotta try it out at some point
My rikku only run was a lot of fun!! It was no overdrive though, so tons of grinding and finding specific armor/weapons to get me through.
There’s also a yuna no summons run here on RUclips someone did!
@@LootGoblin20 i did a lulu only a long time ago it wasn't that bad. The worst is actually Auron good luck actually hitting anything without his overdrive.
this reminds me of a challenge i saw on the ffx forums back in the day called smthn like "lulu day lulu time" where u use expert grid and put every single character on lulu's grid for the entire game. i never tried it but it always seemed fun, albeit definitely less hard than this run. all rikkus is super fun tho bc steal and use genuinely give you so many options it can be fun to just try to item mode your way thru the whole game. man i love this game sorry for rambling in your comment section

I particularly like "wrong grid" runs. Yuna doing 5000 damage with her bonk branch up Gagazet is entertaining, but what it does to Bahamut's Impulse is terrifying and hilarious.
That was how I happened to learn that was based on strength, not magic!
@@LootGoblin20 tbh items only is basically a nsgnano run but you have survival stats and more than one damage dealer, it's fun but can be a bit grindy getting shining gems for overdrive sin because you can't get 99 of everything useful via monster arena. so prolly only dedicate if you're willing to sit and steal from the omega ruins varunas for a while unless you make concessions to allow for bribe to be used. this is all based on my experience tho so i could be super unoptimal compared to you since you do nsg dark aeon stuff so you definitely know your stuff
I came for FFX content....i stayed because loot goblin is an amazing name and respect and appreciate those kind of things. GG nice content mate!

This video is insane. Lol FFX was hard for me. It's my first FF game. I wasn't familiar with FF mechanics. The weaknesses, items, stats, summonings etc were so confusing. I kept dying to Seymour. Your knowledge of this game is impressive

Lightning strike and lightning proof is a really smart mitigator for confuse

@@LootGoblin20 games been out for years and first I've seen it. Not a bad find
that is a very good workaround if you don't have a confuse ward armor. the status ward armors work a bit unintuitively, and will reduce the percentage chance that an effect will be applied. so if you wear a confuse ward armor for lady y, her mind blast can't confuse you (50% - 50% = 0%)
@@t5noho Yeam Im pretty sure wards just work when they feel like. I got confused so many times even with ward, but then spectral keeper never berserked me with berserk ward on. It's a mess

My headcanon for the abundance of Sinspawns at the beginning is that they're after their big brother, Tidus.
Ahhh so it's because Tidus is being a tsundere and killing them when they only want a hug from their big bro. I can see it.
Fun fact, if you have a lightning strike weapon you can attack the crane and then use the oblitzerator

I call him tide-us too but it's teed-us stands for sun while Yuna is moon. He's also the son of sin and a sun to wake the dreamers

Nice run. Kinda have to point this out because it's a kinda funny misunderstanding btw, at 29:50 you talk of using an SOS-NulTide armor to make Tidus hit himself out of Confusion safely with the Brotherhood, but this actually does not work, and the video itself shows that. An attack getting blocked by a Nul-spell is equivalent to it completely missing, it will not remove Confusion, Sleep, or inflict any statuses or anything. Fortunately for you, it does still block the damage, and Yunalesca's Hellbiter took care of the Confusion right after.

Sanctuary keeper BY FAR. OD Sin took like 3 tries, was stuck on keeper for almost 2 hours...

Sanctuary Keeper was much harder for my run as well (though I had the foolish idea of accepting mp spheres from lord ochu, needing a sub 3200 damage roll from mana beam was excruciating)

Cool run! Well done! However my only thought would be that surely it's better to kill off party members during a random encounter before the boss so that your additional party members can't absorb opening moves from the bosses? Just my thoughts! :)
unfortunately this game will auto revive party members at 1hp after every battle. This was a fun challenge when I did this back when. aside from constantly killing party members anyways.
Tried doing it with some off screen footage but then they were just getting revived anyway like @t5noho said so I started referring to them as my "cheerleaders".
Hopefully someone makes a mod in the future that changes that (someone made 1 to skip cutscenes so there is hope)

I love the Tidus blue sword, I guess the devs stopped putting it in their other FF games like 16 and Rebirth.
Well gilgamesh is apparentely in Rebirth so here is hoping that it makes a return 🙏

Fun challenge, this was my first challenge run in FFX (I think?) and it was a lot of fun at the time. Have you considered going for the Monster Arena and Dark Aeons? Penance is impossible of course, but everything else is fair game.
I have considered this yes. Doing it with tidus sg only might male dark aeons impossible but the monster arena stleast should be good
@@LootGoblin20 With OSG a couple of bosses will be impossible (won't spoil it for you), and some Dark Aeons will definitely be impossible too. Should be fun to figure out which bosses are doable, though.
Good lord so ive been playing the original ps2 version on the ps2 and it’s my first time actually playing through the game. I’ve played it a long long time ago when I watched my step dad play it but I remember almost nothin from the game at all lol. Anyways the point is the HD remaster looks incredible! I can actually SEE!

instead of making an exception on that ship fight that you have to use wakka, should've changed the rule about the grid that tidus could grab the lancet skill and solo the sin ship fight with that
True but I felt that it would just be a snooze festfor no reason
Once tidus gets to a certain power range he is insanely op.
I had a file at one point that the other characters barely even got to get attacks in he was so op.
Put him in rikku's grid for even more absurd results 💪
@@LootGoblin20 I was trying to build the Ultimate weapon for him. I purchased a full empty slot sword from that merchant and got a few of the op abilities on it but realized after weeks of grinding that I was going to spend years trying to make the weapon. In the end I gave up just not worth that amount of time investment. The weapon I created was still insanly op but no where near as powerful compared to what my build plan was. Lets just say the celestial weapon for tidus was weak compared to what I had built and that weapon was weak compared to what I wanted to build.
I grinded the boss fights for weeks to a month just to get a single piece of the materials I needed. Whoever chose the drop rates for those items was a complete troll lol.
@@LootGoblin20 and yeah my tidus had completly cleared his grid and was working on others. I dummped pretty much all the spheres on him. Only really used spheres I could grind from mobs on the others.
2 rules for this game. number 1 - never grind for drops, just bribe and save your sanity xD
rule number 2 - Unless you are only using magic, celestial weapons are always stronger, they ignore defense while other weapons dont

I tried a single character challenge of FFX in the past, but it was Lulu only, I literally got stopped at the Crawler boss fight, it couldn't hit me and I could barely hit it.
Lulu definetely is the hardest character to do this with
How did you learn energy rain after using blitz ace you need to unlock energy rain first to unlock blitz ace after
Assuming that you are talking about crawler in macalania. Game bugged, probably because of the cutscene skipper mod I was using. Had to re-learn the overdrives backwards during the fight. Unfortunately the mod is not without bugs. Also had to do Yunalesca 3 times before I deactivated it because the game kept crashing.
If you grab loner skill and farm overdrives you can energy rain sin first encounter to solo him

You could have made sanctuary keeper a lot easier by using a star curtain on it, would make the curaga and regen bounce to tidus.
Coulld havee also mixed a chaos grenade after the star curtain and he would just spam hast, but, you know.... rules

Doesn't anyone know that you can provoke any chimera with tides, which causes it to only cast thunder spells, which, tides has null shock so, easy exp. . .
No I did not...
I know using a cheat to make Titus the only one in the party doesn't work it breaks the game so doing what you're doing is pretty much the only way .

Mmmm, a Tidus-only challenge doesn't inherently prevent customization. Rikku isn't 'needed' for it, it's just a matter of where in the story they decided to put it. Of course it's your challenge and a lot of people ban customize in their challenges because it's so powerful, but I disagree with the reasoning here.
The way I see it, you get it when you get rikku and it's rikku giving you the tutorial so it makes sense that she is the one doing it. That is my reasoning at least

No way. Some bosses sure but you would never get past the random encounters. Run would die in mi'hen

You couldn’t teach tidus lancet for the sin fight that takes out Kikika.
Tidus doing things h8msekf would be more important then him being unable to use other sphere grids.
Or maybe we set the rules and then follow them.

Also, you said you couldn't get stronger but pretty sure you can farm spheres for your empty slots and even clear weaker sphere spots that give only 1-2 stats in favor of the 4s. Through the Monster Arena (and maybe Omega ruins but I don't think so, it just helps).

You can't solo the game with Tidus because there's a Kimahri-exclusive mandatory fight on the mountain.
Like I said at the beginning, there are some exceptions, like sin in the ship at the start of the game.
@@LootGoblin20 Thing is that I'm autistic as hell and if I didn't point it out then I wouldn't be able to sleep for like two days. The answer is "no, you cannot complete the game with Tidus only, it's physically impossible without modifying the game."

Nope theirs a few SOLO boss fights where he's NEVER in my party and the flans can ONLY be hit by spells so the very FIRST FIXED Flan requires to use Lulu's ATTACK spells ON IT.
True which is why in the rules there is the "exceptions" part. Sometimes the game just does not let you
