Mine nearly drowned If I was 1 second late then would be gone for good but my quick action I gave him like a cpr effect and he revived now I don't bath him I mist him
Well it’s a good thing I wanted to play mine music and I get all these recommendations now
I didn't know this. UNTIL my son did this to his. I'm not (or wasn't) a reptile person. It took my son years to convince me to get him one. Well, one day this happened. He comes to me bawling his eyes out and his dragon has what looks to be snot coning out of it's mouth. It's completely limp and it's beard is black. My heart sank. Not only for the dragon, but my son wanted him for so long and had taken great care of him. I took Dart is his name, and wiped his mouth, put my mouth on his and gave him cpr. Yep, I never thought I would be there in that moment trying everything to save this little guys life. It was over 5 minutes of actively doing this. I thought he was gone so I sat him down. Tears are running down both of our faces. Then, Dart appears to have thrown up. Tons of water came out and he took a big breath. I started bawling in relief. We still have him now years later and he's now huge! My son tells all of his friends about it to this day whenever he shows him off. I'm now a reptile person.
Great that they're still fine! I want a pet someday but I would be so so so paranoid of something going wrong and me not being fully informed even though I would look into it all thouroughly beforehand I'd be worried of missing something haha
You're an amazing parent! Both teaching your son to value pets and take very good care of them, but then actually saving Dart!

Bruh this already a short video. Not even 30 seconds I think. How ADHD are you to need a summary or think others need it?
Missing vital information: Don't pick them up immediately after either! Wait until they are done holding their head up too, not just when they are gulping the water.
Seriously though, youtube shorts are 60 seconds or shorter. Summaries already make little sense, even less so when you leave out critical information.

Yow my net dropped at the beginning too and I was like nah he not bouto show me how to kill this thing
Thank you so much for this. My bearded dragon would obsessively drink water and it caused a near death experience at least once. No vet could give me an answer on what was wrong or why he obsessively drank water in the baths, but they never told me to not disturb their drinking at all. I would sometimes try to remove them from the bath because I was worried he’d choke and die from drinking too much water and the near death experience only solidified that fear. How ironic.
Edit: Yes, I googled it. When google had no clear results and said that obsessive drinking could be caused by anything from acute dehydration, parasites, disease, etc I took it into my vet for an earlier than usual yearly wellness exam and fecal expressing those concerns and presenting video evidence to the YES reptile specializing vet. This vet works with others at that clinic and has seen patients from the local zoo. Please stop assuming that I didn’t bother to do research or that these vets were trash. I also presented footage of a head tremor in my beardie and the vet went above and beyond to share that footage with even distant fellow vets to try and figure out what could be causing it. I no longer live in that area and thus don’t see that vet anymore but assuming all that from a youtube comment I made thanking OP for making such a useful educational video isn’t helpful to anyone.
Cheers and have a good one, y’all.
It happens all the time and people dont ever tell you this is why!

I don't think animals are suicidal, and death by overdrinking with water would probably be the last thing to use...
@@11kele ._. It’s not suicidal it’s stupidity and dogs have been known to do it so I bet other species have as well. Comparing how animals perceive life to humans is unhealthy.
It is always good to check your facts.
My left brain: that’s really interesting information
My right brain: one gulp, two gulp, three gulp, four
five gulp, six gulp, seven gulp, more
This is such a good example of why pets - especially exotic pets - need an absolute TON of research before taking them on. It drives me crazy to see people take on creatures with more complex needs without adequate research.
I've never heard this before. I've never had any reptiles but really appreciate the education, hopefully this will save someone's dragon one day. Thank you.
I personally have rabbits, have had them for 20+yrs and what a lot of people don't realise that they are also considered exotic pets with *very* complex care needs.
They can also die from having a bath, albeit for very different reasons (it can send them into shock) and should never ever be bathed. But so many people don't know this or ignore it. Many have killed their rabbits this way. It's so incredibly sad and entirely preventable.
Thank you again for the video, I'll pass this on if I ever know of anyone getting a bearded dragon

How many Souls died in your Hands?
I swear bearded dragons are the most vulnerable pets
bearded dragons are actually INCREDIBLY hardy reptiles, they are easily the most beginner friendly reptile just behind snakes, they arent vulnerable at all, incredibly forgiving for mistakes actually.
This seems like one of the easiest animals to accidentally kill
Hamsters take that title. Bearded dragons are actually remarkably resilient
"Bearded dragons have a valve that allows them to breathe, and they seal this whenever they drink so water doesn't go in their lungs." Now if only humans could learn his power so I would stop accidentally inhaling my water, that would be nice.
Edit: thank you to every Bill Nye that felt the need to sound off in the replies like none of you have ever choked on something before lmao.
Humans have it too, some people just aren't fully competent at using it
humans actually do use a flap that closes the trachea when swallowing water or food. the problems arrive when you accidentally breathe your water/food in instead of actually swallowing
We do have this it's called an epiglottis
Above the larynx which is basically where your trachea is
So food goes into your esophagus
Like a lid that closes so you don't kill yourself doing basic needs like drinking
If we didn't have it everyone would be dead
natural selection failed it's only job
this is actually very important info bearded dragon owners should know great video man 👍 I didn't know this
My beardie one time either drank too much or whatever, but his mouth kind of bubbled up and it looked like he was choking on the water, it was so scary.
Another time, in the bath, he pooped so much that he went pale and limp from the sheer size of it, which also scared the crap out of me, no pun intended.
I've always left mine in the bath until he starts trying to climb the walls signaling he wants out.
I volunteer at a reptile rescue and have given beardies lots of baths. I didn't know this, but I wouldn't even think of picking them up until they're moving or asking to be moved. I'd freaking choke if someone grabbed me while trying to take a gulp!
this happens to them a lot sadly and they do choke. Just like we would

thank you for sharing to make others aware!!
They only gulp like that if they're super dehydrated or parched. Their environment should be misted every morning and evening so they can lick the dew from their surrounding environment. They're desert animals and aren't accustomed to drinking standing water. But should always have access to some water in their tanks. As long as it doesn't cause the air in their tank to become too humid. They also get hydration from leafy greens, which should be a part of their daily diet.
exept on rare occasion when it rains. but actually they do drink like this when they arent dehydrated.
