He is so soft and yielding. That is the kind of humans we need to cultivate on Earth.

This was a great interview to find on You tube. I've read Wilber's Spectrum of Consciousness and it makes a lot of sense; and I've read Rowan's The Transpersonal but grounding the concept in everyday life, and in therapy eluded me as a practical person - this interview/discussion helped clarify.

The fact of the matter is (I guess) . . . that essential knowledge can manifest in almost any kind of non-essential form.
Some forms you can put up with (you yourself being a form) . . . and some you can't.
This guy has useful things to say . . . if you can put up with his form.

Sure he did deal with all aspects of his shadow 🙄

Agree. I enjoyed the interview but he on many occasions displayed a massive ego, lots of negative judgement and a closed mind. The way he spoke about others with differing opinions was not very respectful and quite arrogant - it was uncomfortable to listen to at times

A comment in this interview is House when he says a materialistic, atheistic, non religious world view person, wouldn't be coming to see a transpersonal therapist, to which Rowan replies, No, they wouldn't. Is that the type of person that should most especially go to see a transpersonal therapist?

Psychotherapy On the contrary, perhaps not...as he/she would probably be unreceptive to material which might come to light..which would be related to to spiritual truths or various personal "revelations."

Beware of people who claim that they are self actualised and have dealt with their entire
    shadow!

John Rowan seems pretty unprepared on the argument, no doubt he is fascinated and passionate by the transpersonal realm but he is clearly biased, lacking of self-awareness and he's not capable to add relevant content to the questions of Dr. House. I wonder how he's a therapist at all.

Rowan believes that corporal punishment does not necessarily harm the child and that "where the child as well as the adult accept the need for it, then its hard to talk of abuse."

Rowan, you dealt with your shadow...by yourself?! How so?

    • @clairehynd9916

GnosisMan50 : I would assume by knowing yourself and being in a position to challenging your shadow side . Different techniques, child repression , take your good points and flip it . Embrace your negative responses, learn from this and grow spiritually as a person . What do you think GnosisMan50 ?

@GnosisMan50 John Rowan mentioned about the alchemy what made me think that he has a good experience in mysticism and some kind of mystical spirituality. As Harman puts it: ‘[t]he scientist who would explore the topic of consciousness ... must be willing to risk being transformed in the process of exploration’ So probably John during his journey had no choice except dealing with his shadow. But I don't believe yet that it's possible to deal with it for 100%, I believe that it's more about learning the skill how to notice, explore and enlighten the shadow.

@@vitaliydominichenko8394 So if Rowan was able to address his shadow, the question arises: to what degree? There are millions of people out there who are akin to zombies as they are being mindlessly controlled by their shadow. If we can't find a way to address it, it will keep the emotional, psychological, and spiritual evolution of humanity crawling at a snail's pace as we are now. Carl Jung said that "we are on guard against contagious diseases of the body, but we are careless when it comes to the even more dangerous collective diseases of the mind". Maybe I'm asking too much but we ought to be as mindful with our shadow as we are with Covid-19 -if not more. I'm so tired of hearing spiritual gurus talk ad-nausaum about enlightenment, transformation, stages of awareness, and all the rest but no one (to my knowledge) has developed a new psycho-therapeutic treatment that can, once and for all, free ourselves from our shadow. Where are the Carl Jung's and Freud's of today? It's often very depressing to me to be among so many people who do not know the truth about themselves, even those who are highly educated. They have no idea of the degree in which they have been culturally programmed to think, feel, and believe in things that keep them in bondage. The need to know but the fear of knowing keeps them that way. I've never felt so alone in my life. Over the years, I've slayed many of the illusions I was born into. Painful as it was, it made me a better man but women will never understand me because they are still under one of the major illusions I once had: the myth of romantic love. People kill, get killed, get depressed, and die for love. How can that possibly be love? Yet we have before us millions of people acting out this myth as if it was normal. My loneliness on this can be quite painful at times. I can't help but think of women as being cowards for not facing up to the truth about themselves. Dr. Esther Perel implied this in one of her talks as a dereliction of duty among men and women because they are not taking responsibility for their own emotional well being.
I often can't help but get angry about all this. You strive to be a better person emotionally and psychologically but it only alienates you further from your family, friends, and women. They say they want a lasting relationship but it's more illusion than reality. It seems everyone is in a state of arrested development.
