    That is a short lane...! Great idea to enjoy bowling in your garage. So your 1956 "A" model is about the same age as the 32 model "A" pinsetters I worked on in 1969-1972 in St. Pete. Our old pinsetter started having rake arms, ball cushion arms and other metal parts breaking. It seemed like we had to weld something weekly. Loved the job but hated washing all the bowling twice a month. We cleaned areas on the pinsetters daily and major cleaning weekly. The customers like our bowling alley because at the end of a league they had clean hands & shirts unlike the other bowling alleys in the area. FYI - I am just east of you in Rowlett. My current project is helping restore a 40 year old minicomputer designed and built in Richardson, TX ( RUclips search for "I Bought a Minicomputer from 1980" we have over 25 videos now and a running system. ).

      You'll have to come by sometime. I'll check out the video too I keep plenty busy with 1 pinsetter, I couldn't imagine 32 to keep up with at 66 years old (and still running strong). I LOVE the pinsetter and how it works.

    I was the mechanic at an AMF bowling alley decades ago and moved on to have a career in R&D engineering. I learned a lot from working on those machines, the day I was hired the mechanic that was supposed to train me quit so I had to learn very quickly on my own. I liked working on them because you could easily see the issues and correct them most of the time. The heart of the machine was a stepper relay and it controlled many other relays, had a clear plastic cover so you could see it arcing and sparking as it progressed they it's routine.
    Lately I have been thinking about those days, thinking about how enjoyable it would be to have a pinsetter in my garage. I am happy to see someone has done that and I bet you enjoy it. We used to bowl late into the night after hours and was really fun times

      Great memory ! Thank you for sharing it. It is nice to have one right outside the door in the garage to keep me busy and out of trouble. Tonight we watched our first live video, it’s surprising how much it’s changed ! Like you I kindof dove into learning at a children’s home. We got 6 model As donated and I just started tinkering and watching them work then learning how to fix things that weren’t right. I drove Rip Owens crazy calling him all the time asking questions but it fascinated me watching all the mechanical parts doing “their thing” like a symphony. Then I got a job working afternoon/evenings at a big center end really learned a lot with 52 and 58 machines to babysit. Good times!

      @neuromanglers 3 года назад

      @@GarageBowlingAlley that is a lot of machines to keep up with. I had 22 lanes and they kept me busy for the first 6 months then after that period of intense repair not much was needed. I do miss working with those machines and now...being in R&D engineering....I would have really enjoyed working to develope those pin setting machines. I only know the AMF but have briefly seen the Brunswick a few times and they looked equally impressive
      Really cool that you have your own setup. I found a pin setting machine today in Pa...only 400. But my wife is not ok with it ....happy for you

      I'm kinda in your old shoes now. My boss just bought the bowling center in town and told me I was now in charge of the mechanics and maintenance. This channel has also been a big help when I need to figure out how something is supposed to work. 😀

    As a center mechanic and proprietor I would like to suggest- if possible, definitely re-shim and level the foul line area and front of the lane. I would also oil the first couple feet to protect the wood if you don’t already. I love your videos and setup!!!!!

    • @GarageBowlingAlley
      @GarageBowlingAlley  3 года назад +4

      I do oil the lane I didn’t today before I bowled but I usually spritz the heads. The 2 feet before to 2 feet after the foul line is level but then the lane slopes up as I couldn’t get the pin deck any lower and I couldn’t have the approach any higher so there’s a slight incline that levels off just before the pin deck, which is level.
