Recycling Oak Sleeper Off Cuts !!

- In this video I take some gnarly offcuts from an Oak sleeper, which I bought a few years ago and make a pedestal side table. I used some epoxy resin coloured with Teal mica powder to form the top and fill some cracks, which I extended into the base to try and add some continuity..

Mr. Andy, once again you have created an artistic masterpiece. Super smart idea to extend the cracks from the post to the base.
Many thanks
It took me a long time to work out where you were going, then the pedestal emerged. Clever to make the cracks in the old wood into the central design motif. I admire your craftsmanship and your imagination: it's the combination that makes your pieces so appealing.
Thanks so much
Andy, a man who's skill, craftsmanship and imagination limitless bounderies becomes exasperating.
Stunningly beautiful! The turquoise works a treat with the beautiful oak. Bravo maestro!
Thankyou
Allright Andy! This is one of the biggest reasons why I LOVE your videos! Without uttering a single sound, you have directed your orchestra of tools, and composed a symphony that is stunning and breathtaking! And! To top it all off, you put a gorgeous vase on table when you finished! Wouldn't be shocked if you'd made that as well!
Thanks so much 👍
oh yes very lovely… I have 6 chunks of old oak beam…the grain on yours is stunning 😃
Thankyou
You make the coolest, most creative stuff dude. Thank you.
Thanks so much
Very nicely done, love the fact your using old material. Stay safe.
Thanks, you too!
I remember the first cabinet I made in college was a small bedside one.
cool
Fantastic design!!! This is such a cute table!!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
From nothing to something that is absolutely gorgeous. 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Thankyou
... ALL the tools. :) sometime I would love a tour of your shop and see them all, big and small.
What a gorgeous end table
First of all, just how big is your workshop? 😂
It’s great to see some new machines being used.
Secondly, that beautiful blue resin. I can’t thank you enough for showing off your talent. When it comes to using resin with wood, you’re a master.
Thirdly, the asmr that reduces my anxiety is back.
People normally use old sleepers in their gardens, and while I love seeing them used like that, it’s also wonderful to see such wonderful work and such beautiful pieces of art come out of this. Thanks Andy. 👍🏻❤️
Thanks Chris 👍
Huh 🤔, who would have thought a table. I was going for a giant rolling pin. Love your work Andy. Keep it up!!!
Thanks 👍
Very nice work man. I like how you used the turquoise color to enhance the Oak. I love how you made the pedestal also. I missed this when it was new, my notifications aren't working properly. Here I go digging around in the electronics again... I'd rather dig around in the garden. Take care and keep turning.
Don't know how I missed this till now absolutely stunning
Thanks 👍
Wow, that looks fantastic, really beautiful 😊
Thanks
Absolutely stunning, Andy. It all came together well.
Bill
Thanks Bill 👍
Excellent! Nice use of "reclaimed" material!
Thankyou
Please do something with green resin!? I'm not creative but I love watching you work. I'm in Colorado USA and I'm a big fan!
Artistic and practical. As always, great stuff Andy.
Many thanks!
That's just beautiful. I love the addition of the resin in those cracks at the base of the table. It's a small touch, but it brings the entire project to another level.
Thanks 👍
Andy such a pleasure to see your new project
Thankyou
Beautiful!!!!! Love the colour too, really nice grain in the wood. Another triumphant outcome Andy 👍

Me At 4:00: I guess Andy isn't going to turn anything today.... WRONG not only is he turning, He is turning a very technical and traditional pedestal just to flex his awesome skills!

Not sure why I am still surprised at the amazing work and turns in direction from the beginning to end in your work. I do not pre-read the descriptions so I can appreciate the process. Was not expecting a square table top ending. It is absolutely stunning.

A fine piece of recycling Andy. 😁
Thanks 👍
That is really amazing.
Thanks 👍
Love to watch you work! Being I am from America.....what is an Oak sleeper? Is that what we call a hide-a-bed? LOL!
Thanks .. LOL .. A sleeper in the UK is the wooden part of a railway line or at least it used to be but mainly used in gardens nowadays
@@AndyPhillipWoodturning thanks for the explanation. Now I now exactly what it is.
Love the floors - you do those, too? Extending the cracks - was that an esthetics thing, or a nod to the Japanese ‘fix it with something ornate”? The blocks ended up with such beautiful grains. Another heirloom worthy endeavor!
Very nice Andy!
Thank you!
Gorgeous
Great job 👍
Thanks 👍
Lovely.......cant think of anything else to say on that, just....lovely🏆
Thanks
Great job!!!
Thank you!!
Very nice.
Thank you
I really like this idea. I’m curious how you removed to top from the mold without damage since you used CA to hold down the pieces,
God you are so talented mr wish i could find someone local to me to watch him at their work and love to have a go. X
Thanks so much 👍

Very nice!
Thankyou
Another creative and beautiful project Andy. I am curious as to how you got the oak pieces out of the form with the resin. It didn't look like the form was treated with mold release, and so I am curious as to how you were able to get that piece out. Thanks
Thanks .. It was always a sacrificial mould so the sides got cut off with the bandsaw and the base was prized off with a chisel .. in multiple pieces 😂
Hello from Texas
Hello there!
