Agree 100%. When the F100 steering works, it's great. But there's always the possibility that the person who modified it didn't know what they were doing. Safety First.

I was tinkering with an old jalopy years ago when my dad approached me. He asked what I was doing. Then he asked me if I knew what I was doing! Ah, er, I think so...
He informed me in a polite manner that the engineer that designed that part and the factory that built it knew a lot more about it than I did!!
It took me a few years to truly appreciate his wisdom. If it is a daily driver, keep it OEM/stock! If it is a toy that you work on more than drive, well, Cochise, its your funeral.
    'Nuff said, eh?

I need to get some short videos sent out to you on a thumb 👍 drive. Gotta get busy...they won't video themselves! And camera set-up is ridiculous! Just when you think you have it, it looks horrible! Or the lighting. Or the background. Or the view isn't quite right. Ugh.

@@williamforbes5826 making videos is definitely a time suck as Paul puts it, everything has to be right to make it worth watching, especially for a wide range of viewers 😁

I agree 100%. If I wanted an F-1 steering box so bad I would have bought the whole truck and drove that instead of a model A.

Tina & Paul sitting in the backseat of the Model A, this gave me a chuckle. I need to have my wife sit with me in ours. Another good video on keeping them original. Ken in KY

I agree. The factory engineers do things for a reason. Proper design for safety, comfort, and overall the best performance and reliability for a daily driver. When I worked for GM there were many parts that just the R&D cost one million dollars. Thanks for the video, Mike

I watched the video, however there really was no need. I think I would have been able to quote what Paul was about to say verbatim, just from his body language in the thumbnail photo. Haha.
BTW, I recently rebuilt my 2 tooth back to stock. An old school pro rebuilder machined the sector housing for a lip seal and machined the brass bush for me. Very happy with the result... and no leaks.
Unfortunately mine (being in Australia) is right hand drive, so needle bearing sector housings are not readily available, so the old housing had to be used. However, the guy who did the machining has built hundreds of steering boxes and advised not to use needle bearing. His rationale is that the sector shaft generally rides back and forth in the one spot and can cause pitting from the needle bearings due to the variability of hardness in some of the reproduction shafts.

I like and use the original box. Many times guys do the F-100 because of '35 wheels and radial tires. You also can't dry steer non power steering. Shouldn't dry steer anything.

Great info, but……. You neglected the part I wanted to know the most. The end of his question was, and what I want to know about, is the shortened Pittman arm a good idea. I see them for sale but wonder what you give up for what you gain?

Just rebuilt my 2 tooth sector and adjusted it per the red Les Andrew's book. I put the bearings in the housing and everything combined makes it drive like a different car! When it turns as easy as it does, I see no reason to go with the F-100 box.
