Gunny Juice Diamond Emulsion: Interesting results.

  • I thought the results were really interesting. It is very difficult to get an extremely fine compound that doesn't over polish the edge making it too smooth with no grab.
There's a lot of social media edges that look absolutely gorgeous, but the actual apex has been over polished and rounded over and is not very crisp or sharp despite looking like a million bucks.
I think Scott Gun has done a phenomenal job with being able to chase high diamond concentration without agglomeration allowing for extremely crisp sub micron polishing.
Also a special thank you to Ken Schwartz for pushing the limits with stropping compounds thus inspiring an entire generation. Rest in peace bro. We stand on the shoulders of Giants.

As a novice sharpener I’ve used Gunny Juice with good results on basswood. From 12um down too 1um. You’re awesome Shawn keep up the good work 👍🏻

I like the Gunny Juice.. Works great on leather, mixed results on the synthetic material they sell. Thanks for the video.

Very interesting. I rarely use lower than 3 microns nowadays (mostly because I'm lazy haha). Do you have any suspicions about why Gunny performs so well? Like a higher quality Polycrystalline manufacturer, higher concentration (carats per ml), and so on.

in use 9 micron Gunny Juice on a homemade leather strop glued to a paint stir stick as a touch up for any knife i EDC. i notice it works best on S35VN but still amazingly well on every other steel

How much did you load the strop?

which BESS score do you get from DIY emulsion; like diamond powder, water, dish soap in a bottle & shake?

I've been using gunny juice 3 micron on my K390 Endela for a while. I'm assuming its effectively cutting the carbides, which is why it keeps its bite? Whenever I've stropped lower end steels, they just seem to smooth over really easily and lose the bite.

try it on the new hetinax strops from gritomatic... like 1 or 2 drops
covers a 6 inch strop... very interesting material

Damn yeah I've swore by my Ken Schwartz sprays and the Bark river CBN stuff ain't bad either but it looks like I'm gonna have to get me some gunny juice afterall I been eyeballing the stuff adding it to my cart then taking it back out for too long and this vid deff just sold me on it! I'm not one who goes for that EdgePro super high polished edge I prefer performance and bite no matter how it looks! Hey brother have you done any testing with the Spydie 15V yet far as toothy VS polished edge for edge retention and overall performance??? I'd be interested to see a video on that also kudos bro I own all 3 of them and two of the Shamans I can't say enough good things about this steel it has blown away all my expectations and even made my M398 Mule seem like a damn cheap 3cr crap steel lol-ol-ol

I can only hope and pray that Sal and Eric pull you in to tweak their other steels protocols as well because it is definitely what makes this steel perform the way it does I'd imagine...

Have you tried Stroppy Stuff diamond compounds? He is based in UK but I believe that there are a couple of sellers in the States.
I believe that his products are certainly the best available in Europe so would be interested in knowing how they compare.

I'mma stick with the Gunny Juice, I like how his submicron ranges perform and I'm impressed with the lack of over polishing with the nano range sizes. Scott is coming out with an even finer grit than the 25 nanometer also so I'm hooked.
If Stroppystuff works best for you I say go for it. I think using quality diamond/cBN compound in general is important and at the end of the day it's skills not tools.

@@dandildarious4849 Have you tried the tsprof diamond compound? IIRC it's $10, so I was thinking about trying it before spending $75 on gunny juice

Where are you finding 25 nanometer and 3 nanometer compounds? I can only find down to 100 nanometer (0.1 micron) and 250 nanometer (0.25 micron) for gunny juice I had no idea such fine compounds even existed. The finest abrasives I can find are lapping films with 50 nanometer grit.

I believe the gunny juice diamond emulsion is produced by Venev. If one increases the quantity of diamond at any size, more than the remaining other 2 importers, of diamond emulsions , then that should give the gunny juice a better result. That doesn't always result in a perfect product. Some products work better on other substrates then the rest. That is a fact.
