Missed you lately, hope the vacation was enjoyable.. you figure out what works for you and l will watch and keep picking up pointers from you! Thanks, Steve
Dee the slide show was fantastic. I love seeing these old Beauty Queens. Something that I had not yet seen before is the portable steam engines. Hope your vacation was a good one. I was wondering about you today while out in my shop working. When one of us Old Guys is AWOL it is worrisome to me. Glad you are still kicking
Good to see you're still going strong Don I was a little worried that I haven't seen your videos in awhile glad I finally found the new channel I'll spend the rest of the day catching up on your videos and maybe learn a thing or two.
My grandfather was their master tool maker, he traveled the world demonstrated and promoting MTD's tech and methods, he was featured in their catalogs and occasional 16mm films. Came from Augsburg Germany 🇩🇪 in 1922, at 16 by himself. Anyone who knows anything about the T&D industry knows Modern Tool and Die. Love your channel.
What I do with my spring tap followers (I forget exactly what they’re called right now) is to flat the tip to fit the jaws of the tap wrenches. So they may have an 0.125” dia flat, or larger depending on the wrench. I can leave the point if it’s a really small tap with a small wrench. It’s frustrating that most taps I have no longer have the center hole. I suppose manufacturing is different these days. Usually they have a pointed back instead. Also, my general tap holders either the chuck don’t have holes in the back either, so I have to take them apart and put my own in. Eh, a minor problem, though an annoying one. At least I got the DRO on my surface grinder finished with a 1um scale.
I bought this old gearhead lathe for salvaging materials and roughing out parts for the toolroom lathe but found this smallest Axelson lathe to be remarkably nimble in the carriage controls and the heavy tail stock with its two-speed rack and pinion gear drive. The compound rest being extra wide does cause clearance problems. I have my surface grinder almost ready to go, I have not used it in the last several years.

There are tap followers that are meant for taps with no center hole, hollow stem fits over the tap…hope this may help, Paulie

@@ypaulbrown yeah. It’s easy to do though. The problem is that the point doesn’t stick out beyond the holders, so they don’t work.
Don't forget to set your clocks back. I'm gona enjoy being 1 hour younger!
Did it a week ago (UK), my age has caught up though.
