Take a small punch and put a small dent in the positive terminal tip for the copper to ride in. Much easier setup. Don't do it hard enough to puncture the battery lol. Did this year's ago for a science project.

There isn't much to it. A Battery, a Neodymium Magnet or two and some wire. Make sure the wire you are using doesn't have some sort of coating on it like plastic or polyurethane. If there is make sure you scrape it off on both ends of the wire so that you make an electrical circuit from the top of the battery through the wire, the magnet and to the negative terminal at the bottom of the battery. Also make sure the wire is bent such that it brushes lightly against the magnet at the bottom as it spins. It goes without saying but make sure whatever you are using for the wire is electrically conductive (passes electricity).....can't be plastic or something like that. Beyond that there isn't much to it.
also you may be using a regular magnet.. if you are using a regular round magnet then do this... get a foil the same foil we are using in grilling a fish or meat... wrap the foil around the regular round magnet.. make sure that the magnet is all covered.. then try following the procedures again.
Check ur battery, you need to change ur battery quite regulary + check if the copper wire is balance and can stay + spin around the battery + check if both ends of the battery is in contact with the copper wire. It may not be easy like these videos but will eventually work out if ur patient enough and try a lot , well at least for me. Hope ur will work too.
