Game intro.

Narrator(Tom Baker): Twenty years ago this was the scene of the last war on Earth.
This pacific island is where the future was built. Where the old guard, the fossilized establishment was brought down. Twenty years have been spent building a new Earth. A world of plenty, and peace.
But the old guard never went away.
The remaining monsters of the 20th century, the death-lovers, the power brokers, the old men who lived on theft and hate, have formed a Cabal, with the intent to break the world apart. With new machinery, unimagined by the outside world, they have incorporated the island into a newly grown chicane of similar islands, the Earth literally forced by machines to throw islands up into an artificial design.
The Cabal control their operations from the shielded island in the center of the chicane. Operations for war against a world that has given war up.
Its up to the new society of two thousand and thirty two to relearn war. To revive the last of the Adaptive Cruisers.
Give it the ability to lend battle vehicles autonomous controls by bonding their systems with the chip-contained minds of dead soldiers; and to send them all into the chicane to fight their way through to Island Zero... and the nightmare, waiting there to be set loose upon the planet.
These are hostile waters...

In 2032, an Earth that knows only peace is forced to relearn the art of war.
Antaeus Rising combines explosive action with powerful real-time strategy. Take command of a powerful aircraft carrier/manufacturing platform. Create military units with your carrier using the most advanced nano-technology known by the modern world and lead an army against the forces of the Old World Cabal. Plan your assault from within your carrier and than enter your units for some third-person mayhem! The fate of world is in your hands, are you able to hold it?

This game needs a full grounds up HD remake!
There are hardly any games like this anymore.
Jovan Mitrić Also a sequel where you take control of a revived 04 and have to fight an infected 00 in a series of high speed sea skirmishes
+Jovan Mitrić huhu.. sadly rage software filed bankruptcy already..
so sad this awesome game went down the drain
A hybrid 00 producing hybrid Hornets and Salamanders, and later Phoenixes and Sharks! That would be awesome.
I miss this game
There's a Remake in progress right now!
TBH, I don't think I remember a game going so far ahead of it's time - the gameplay was excellent (many games can't get vehicular gameplay right to this day), you had stuff like dynamic weather, day cycles, destructible environment, deformable terrain and the prime of it all, the story telling. It's completely beyond me why the game went unnoticed.
Unfortunately, we're unlikely to see a reboot or sequel. The licenses still belong to somebody and getting them is too much PITA for most companies
Guys, this game isn't the best thing ever because of the gameplay. Sure it was good, amazing and ahead of its own time, but the REAL amazing thing is the story. The concept. AND. THOSE. DAMNED. TOM. BAKER. CUTSCENES!! When the Doctor tells you you need to re-learn war, you know sh*t is serious!
Preda Y. I totally agree! The story is mindblowing relative to 2017th standards
they don't make such epic games like this any more...
Loved this game .. shame only few know about it. Great chilling story about weaponisation of constructive nanbot technology, great gameplay with a lot of strategy in it, but with good action too and story turns and twists, that terrify you. Piece of and art.
im crying for a sequel..
I would trade my two sisters and my mother for a sequel
We all are
yes
goosebumbs everytime i watch this intro
Im starting to replay it now. It was an awesome game in every aspect of it. Genuine old-school games like this are made no more :(
No game has ever been able to reach the benchmark this game set. Ever.
Narrated by the one and only legendary Tom Baker
And its still.. Played.. Today..
I have been letting time pass while avoiding and forgetting what happens in the game to ensure that when I come to replay this game, The impressions are as fresh as the time I first played this game, all those many years ago. I am shocked in the way the gaming industry has dumb downed since then...
i mean yea im playing it rn 2020
Still waiting for a remake worth a damn. Still one of the best games.
Listening again that voice....Chills
i have this in original cd, best game '-'
Me too, it's my all time best game ever
Yay, Tom Baker! Now I want this game even more!
happy anniversary. 20 years!
PC only remake of this game would be glorious. Antaeus Rising in 1920x1080 to awe us all.
a group is doing it right now
A man after my own heart.
I still say it could use some less set in stone modes of play though.
Best game ever.
@CaptSnow3 It's a hybrid of RTS and action game. You control a limited amount of units and can at any time ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL over one. As for good... I enjoyed it greatly. My only complaint would be limited replayability.
Best strategy game i played!!
I dont know if anyone will see this comment but i think i should say this cause i dont think anyone has realised a key feature to this game which tho at first u think it downrates the quality, in reality its one of THE MOST UNIQUE THOUGHT PROCESSES THAT LITERALLY U WILL NEVER ENCOUNTER THAT IN ANY OTHER GAME EVER ! and of course i am talking about the music . I am certain that most of you thimk that hostile waters would definetely be better with a soundtrack however let me ask you sth . In the middle of the battle say for example mission 17 where u freaking battle aliens all around ( i thimk ? I domt remember the missions lol ) u hear warnings reports and help requests from 5 different vehicles while the sound of bullets , enemy radiocasts and you trying to dodge in order not to take any damage takes 100% YOUR FULL CONCETRATION . So imagine now that ON TOP OF ALL THAT u also had a song ( heavy metal or tactical like song ) playing on the background affecting ur rhythm and eay of thinking ( i dont think i need to explain way of thinking and rhythm to you , i am certain ur all aware of doom music ) . I myself have tried ( speedrunning - y ) it without music and one other time with music . Though with music u definetely do feel more free and act more efficient on the fight part i realised that i didnt pay much attention to my decision making in the war room , resulting in me losing and putting in danger or generally doing dumb stuff a lot of times . But without music ? Without music u feel like a captain . You are the captain . For an experienced player ( in this game ) decision making is much easier not only cause he know what he has to do but because he manages the battlefield with ease . In fact if u were to put music at him u wouldnt notice that much difference and thats true . But its that silence that made him remember his mistakes and solidify his actions on stone .
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, GAMERS OF ALL THE CENTURIES ( who might see this post ) i hereby state that this ingenius dev did not put music, not by mistake but on purpose making it much more realistic and a better experience . He said no to the common way of thinking and made a ground breaking decision . Not to put music , something thats completely unheard of today . But did he deliver music ? At all ? Oh yes he did . THE FREAKING BATTLEFIELD IS MUSIC.WITH ALL THE FIESTA GOING ON U CANNOT ARGUE WITH THAT .THUS . HE DIDNT JUST PUT ANY KIND MUSIC . HE PUT THE REAL MUSIC IN . THE KIND OF MUSIC A SOLDIER WOULD LISTEN IN A REAL BATTLE .
Ty all for rewding have a nc day
I was the audio guy on this game, I wrote the incidental music and created and placed all the sound effects, did audio software etc.. but it's a team effort and I certainly didn't have that level of control. The game designers and project managers call the shots at the end of the day. I made exactly the argument you've outlined in relation to another game we were developing in parallel, a car racing game. If the sound effects are 'realistic' and full bodied and mixed in with hi-fi quality music then you will end up with each element fighting each other and neither will be good. My plan for Hostile was that the incidental music during gameplay would arrive at certain key points. I wrote some demos but what actually happened was that the scope of the game had to be expanded with extra levels and this didn't leave enough time to work on the music. We then put in some 'place holder' music which played a bit too frequently and it started to irritate the game testers and so after a few months the project manager decide to take it out all together. I was a bit dissapointed but compromises had to be made to get the game finished. The interesting thing for me was certainly this was the rough time that we were transitioning from iconic sound effects to audio realism and I wrestled constantly with how to make the sound effects feel realistic while still working in a game context, or put another way the fashion was to head towards realism but if we'd made it 'realistic' it wouldn't have been much fun... and this was also within the context of being one of the 1st batch of games to use 3-d audio placement accelerated by hardware ( EAX ).
@@nolimit8426 it has been 3 years since i wrote this comment but i still remember the day i wrote it and now we even have a team of fans trying to remaster the game. Although the game didnt reach the heights of publicity u wanted to and it wasnt well known , i can trully see it was a team effort as many things in the game wouldnt be as they should more less work and they do because all of u had passion for ur work and nice idea. Thus it is kinda sad that you sir , werent given that much attention on ur part in the project because i do believe with what few of ur work is already inside( The intro , the war room ambient music and the horror aspects) u must have had some very nice demos and mayhaps with some more development u could have made some very good osts for the game . To this day Hostile Waters has no joke one of the best weapon sounds and the whole game's atmosphere is super realistic. So if it matters to you , tho the game wasnt as successful there ARE still people playing it , who loved it and there are fans that do try to remaster it in their own pace and even tho ur part of the project wasnt highlighted enough ( no offense ofc ) due to the lack of music , thank you very much for your work and passion for the game and thank you for ur part ^^.
p.s. I take it the demos were techno like ? i always had the idea that game could use a techno with high tempo part comlimenting the other osts. Or maybe 3 songs for the 3 parts of the game ( Cabal , cabav/aliens , aliens) , like a simple techno upbeat chart at the start of the game till we meet the aliens with lower volume than the master sounds ( weapon sounds , alerts etc ) and as the game goes it gets more scary , creepy and detached
@@lionwarrior2486 the ideas, which were still fairly rough were used in this promo video, so basically more orchesteral stuff and a little bit techno/ambient style. Of course there would have been much more. There was an idea of the music evolving and changing style but as extra levels were added they were also re-ordered and the story line adapted so the music in the cut-scenes ended up a little bit jumbled :) ruclips.net/video/eN8O3fowvmM/видео.html
@SkarmoryThePG
Yeah, I agree. It would have lived even longer with skirmish and multiplayer. I always wanted to have at least a multiplayer mode in it.
But then again... They most likely would have had to sacrifice the very finest quality of this whole game and we wouldn't remember this game as one of the best games all time.
Re-released on GOG.com today for 6 bucks! :) (w/ soundtrack)
ill check it out
I want to see the Antaeus... IN GLORIOUS HD!!!

Oh and you know what's funny? They remade fucking Carrier Command and the game was inferior in pretty much everything, save for graphics, otherwise, it was almost a ripo-off of Hostile Waters. That's embarrassing as fuck.
Current world of video games is a definition of regress on many levels.
Agreed. The lack of skirmish or multiplayer really hurt HWAR's replayability.
Yes, best game!
@azngotback Heck yea!
@Jonasakos Sure do. Arkham Asylum. New Vegas. Mass Effect. Just to name a few.

@SkarmoryThePG wish they continued the story but they stopped production in 2003 and never continued T.T the story didnt end yet!!!
What is this game like and is it any good?
9 years... Well yes and its cheap on Steam. Great game. Still even today
2019?
@azngotback agreed!
Güzel
would of been awesome if this game was remade and allowed multi-player ;D
they doing it now
New carrier command game out in 2012 is very similar to this.
@SkarmoryThePG I disagree. AT LEAST 64 times through, I lost count after that but I think my current amount is at 69 times through. Some day I will make the number 70.
But I agree, the game would have had even longer lifespan if it had multiplayer. :(
(Still waiting for Hostile Waters 2.0)
@azngotback Alas
@azngotback they should have but instead being on earth ur in space like some halo style
