Happy New Year Mark- you are sharing your best and really inspiring us to take the next step towards our goal of owning our own Nordhavn- wishing you all the best for the new year Harold and Wendy from Australia
Happy New Year to you and yours Mark always look forward to your videos . Started daily IV treatment in November- your videos help in overcoming the monotony of the treatment. Hugely grateful
Loved the Christmas video. Especially the way you include the good with the bad. Authentic. Yep, the drone footage adds heaps to the action. Best wishes for a happy new year bro.
Merry Christmas Mark. You had great luck having Emily aboard to cook utterly delicious treats. Some delightful ports -- thanks for sharing them with us. Happy that Portugal is happy to have you hang around until May 2025. Hope Spain and France are as hospitable.
Lovely to see Fiona, she is looking well. Glad you got the paperwork kinda sorted out. Happy New Year to you and yours, have a great one cheers 🥃🏴
Merry Christmas Mark! What a nice Christmas present you gave us. I think you are really good at experiencing things! And very good at enlightening the rest of us. Interesting facts on the water mill. And what an old building that was.... Thank you for your drone footage - it is very good footage! Seems that you passed the tiny "Schengen" hole for extending your stay - Great! I'll hold onto the aid package for whenever they catch up with you :-) Besides what I consider minor nuisance ( but irritating never the less) The mighty Awanui NZ is really doing a great job at keeping you exploring. Are very fascinated by that boat. Looking forward to your big announcement in the next episode.... (fingers crossed for the 8K mark soon!!)
Yes don’t think it will be that far away. Sometimes the numbers grow quicker than others. It all fascinates me. A video I think might get good views does not and then others do, really interesting how it all works. Very much enjoying all the places I visit. The Atlantic so far has been so kind but I will not let my guard drop. Happy New Year
Happy new year captains!! loving your journey, would love to buy you a coffee and pastry when you reach the UK. Safe travels and a happy and healthy new year.
Now I know how to make Crepe Suzette and will. Portugal is a beautiful country, been in Lisbon and Cascais also, very good memories that your video brought back. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us, wishing you and yours all the best and, as always, safe travels. 🙂👍🇨🇦
Hey mark I hope you had a wonderful Christmas I know what's gonna happen at the worst they're just gonna say you have x amount of hours to provision in fuel And then you have to leave the shingen area if I were you and they told me that I would just head off to England. But most likely they'll say you have x amounted days to get your yacht provision to fill in and be on your way for Time you have to be out of the shingen area. You always make good videos I like watching them and you have a great day and I hope you had a very merry Christmas especially for your crew too

Wow, just watched the one where expenses were tallied. I have been living on my boat ( 42 ft aft cabin Sea Ray ) here in Oz for over a year . Watching that episode reminds me again why as a female I prefer to do this alone !
Mark. Make sure to hit the wine country in Porto. The agricultural wineries all have places to stay and enjoy the real Portugal. Emily is a real French Chef. Yo have been blessed. Merry Christmas. Enjoy Portugal. One of mu favorites. Best to you and yours.
Merry Christmas Mark, Fiona and family and friends you’ve shared 🎉 We enjoy your vids so much👏Sending happiness to you, hopefully to brighten your day a little! It’s nearly 2025 Happy New Year to You n All🎉✨🎉🎋Cheers from us 🐨🎋
Any word from Garmin? Can’t be hard to find a tech in winter who can move a device on NMEA surely. I’m very curious to see if the compass reposition helps the issue - as I’m sure you are ! Merry Xmas and happy ‘25 ahead :)
Good luck EMILY.. gosh she is brave!! Hoping she found a boat.. you will miss her cooking skills Mark! It must be so weird to be by oneself after having so much company and a tad nerve racking. 😅
Mark, Again Thank You for the Great Video. We look forward to them.. Couple Questions , Noticed that it’s cooler now , what do you do for heat when anchored ? And when Traveling ? Do you have to run Generator and use AC/Heat units ? How is your Solar working out for you ? Do you have enough storage and Panel capacity ? Merry Christmas ! And Be Safe !!
Yip definitely getting colder now. I put lots of layers on to help keep warm. We have a diesel heater which I will start using soon. Need to get to the bottom of how much fuel they use. Seem to remember it was about 3L/hr but need to check that as seems a huge amount. Solar is great but obviously not generating much at this time of the year. 1.4kw panels but only 2 or 300w/hr with the sun so low and then only for 6hrs or so. Standing still boat batteries discharge at 16amps/hr and usually reduces to 1 or 2 when sun is up. On an average day I use the generator for about an hour or so unless I have been running when I can easily get to the next day without using it.
Video with good and bad news, but in any case you had a nice Christmas. Did Emily find a boat to get her to New Zealand ? Hope you did not leave her out in the middle of nowhere. Anyway, in any case you have some more time in Portugal, now time to sort out the rest of the trip to the UK. Wish you a good end of the year and better start of 2025 from a cold, but sunny Istria in Northern Croatia.
Oooh yes bet it is cold up there. Friends got snow in the Greek Islands. Amelie still looking and it is likely to get more difficult as time goes on. She is tough and will realise her dreams…I am sure of it.
The bridge is called after the date of the revolution (april 25) which was bloodless (they put flowers in their rifles). According to a sign on the bridge it was build without any casualties. Obviously a novelty in those days. Later on Portugal became member of the EU and things became MUCH better, the escudo was as worthless as the Italian lire.
If you fly out they will say nothing, when you come back in they don't even stamp your passport now unless you ask for it, all changing soon of course, but my NZ wife has been in an out many times no issues, I am NZ to but have an EU Passport, we also have the bi lateral agreement docs as a backup but never get asked, I am not sure you even need to apply at immigration in Spain, I think you need to carry proof previous of travel and proof if funds and go to the local police station, I don't even think you need the bilateral agreement to kick in, I am sure the police can stamp your passport for up to 12 months.
Point of order sir !!!! As a Kiwi Barista I feel impelled to correct your definition of a Flat White. By shear definition a Flat White should NOT feature any ‘Latte Art’ of any description, as there should be insufficient foam (stretched milk) to create such art work. A flat white is just that, flat with the crème visible and 2-3 mm of foam. … Mate at the end of the day if you enjoyed the brew, it brings a smile to your dial and you leave happy you can call it what you like .. I’m just poking the bear, having a few sherbets myself and loving your episode … Kia Kaha
Should have asked for the official visa extension stamp added to your passport. With that then you'd be legal in the whole of Schengen area until May. 'The whole Portugal knows' maybe true, but doesn't help much in, say, France, where getting the extension based on bilateral deal is still a big question mark.
I have an e mail from French Immigration Officer that bilateral is available….hopefully border authority accepts it, if not then off to the UK. I will make sure I have plenty of time available to get there. They were not available to process us formally. Kind of had to take what was available.
Hi mark been watching your fantastic blog from the start ! Great work I’m based in uk and am yachtmaster motor If you need a hand on any legs at short notice please let me know
Wow that is generous. It may just be that I need to go from Portugal directly to Falmouth if Spain does not recognise the bilateral agreement between them and NZ. If that was the case it would likely be late February. Challenging time of the year but I would have time to wait for the right conditions. Maybe a WhatsApp catch-up?
@@AwanuiNZ Hi Mark thanks for the contact details. Ill try and make contact in the next couple days to have a chat. Happy New Year ! to you and the family Tony Gotts
Its laughable. The UK, along with the rest of Europe is being flooded with immigrants and refugees from everywhere, and citizens from the first world countries are falling over themselves to 'comply' with ridiculous visa and passport requirements. What does any country really want to know? That you are not going to become a burden on that country. As someone who is travelling by sea, is that likely? Its like where you parked the tender. If you hadnt gone looking for someone to confirm it was ok, then you wouldn't have been told it wasnt ok. I think maybe adopting a laissez faire attitude towards life might be the answer. Dont go looking for problems. Let them try and find you.
Apparently so. The EU does not seem to have its act sorted at all when it comes to what you can and cannot do. The EU recognises that some of their members have bilateral so are trying to introduce a system where visitors know better how it all works and what you can and cannot do. They hoped to introduce it last year but has now been rescheduled for 2025
