  • I'm playing a completely amazing Ibanez TSA15H Tube Screamer 15W guitar amp through a 1971 Marshall 1960A 4x12 speaker cabinet (Stock T1221 G12M25 75Hz Pulsonic) using a 2008 Gibson Les Paul R9. This small affordable amp does a killer PLEXI tone!

12ax7 & dual 6V6. Mine was basically clean even with the volume cranked, perfect pedal platform, nice warm full tone with the EQ at noon too. The boost is great for adding just a slight push to get the amp compressing a little. Very even volume taper too so it’s easy to get nice home volumes. And the built in Tube Screamer is the best I ever heard! It’s kind of the perfect amp. The TSA30 is great too, and runs 6L6s for more power, plus a different (passive) EQ section.

Most RUclipsrs who review different amps play something that suits the amps and the audience's expectation of it. You're the kind of guitar player that who does his own thing, and you make all these different amps sound like you. You really have a sound of your own that comes through so much, whatever amp you're showcasing. A lot of guitars players cannot find their own voice and sound like you've done. Just wanted to compliment you on that. I've been watching your video's for a few years, followed some of your recommendations and you keep surprising me how you can make stuff sound good that I don't expect to sound good, but is also always sound like Johan Segeborn.

You kids (I am of Johan era or +) just gotta understand that virtually any amp.. tube or solid state sounds the best when cranked to the point of the power stage overloading seriously, and the speaker distorting from being driven hard.. with the cabinet beginning explode. Virtually any amp! That is mainly why your amp that Johan has played will never sound as good. You CANNOT attain this amp nirvana without major volume using a very high percentage of the wattage output of the amp that in turn makes the speaker really break up. Preamp tubes cranked with low to mid master volume settings will never achieve what Johan gets out of every amp he demos.. large or small.. solid state or tube.. lower or higher wattage. It is the physics of combined things I mentioned all gloriously interacting with each other that make the amp bloom with harmonic overtones and dynamic sensitivity but ONLY AT LOUD TO UNBELIEVABLY LOUD VOLUMES.
