Honestly, do to the alternative rift this caused, (made an an entire alternate timeline she still remembered the original. I think there is an unexplored alternate timeline where they couldn't/didn't go back for him and he kept his family.
Tbf to them, Kelly's interactions here shouldn't have mattered. They gave past Kelly a memory wipe before sending her back. The only issue is that they couldn't have known it didn't work until after they sent her back
They handled the situation correctly. They gave young Kelly a mind wipe but it didn’t work for some reason. They did actually follow the temporal law of the show, they just botched it.
She traveled not only through time, but through space as well. That must have been quite a shock for Her. I can just imagine closing My eyes for half a second and then finding Myself not only 7 years in the future, but in a completely different location as well.
Shouldn't it be "in" the Orville? A rider is on a motorcycle or on a horse, but a passenger is in a bus or in a ship. But then again, the song said: "I'm leaving on a jet plane. I don't know when I'll be back again."

If it's small-scale. personal transport like a car or a small boat, you say 'in'. If it's large-scale, mass transport you say 'on'. An easy general rule of thumb is that if you have ample room to stand up and walk around while it's in motion, use 'on'. If you generally stay seated/standing then it's 'in'. So for example, a regular helicopter would use 'in', but something like a Chinook would use 'on'. A cruise liner or even a yacht would be 'on' but a dinghy would be 'in'.
