Fun fact, using calibration with the railgun directly increases its damage due to the way that the railgun interacts with velocity, directly increasing its damage.
It also tightens the spread on volley, making it able to do more damage than just a single projectile 3 times over.
Also, if you wanna go down the big sniper route there is a super mod for that, it combines all your projectiles into one large projectile; horrible for shotgun and missile builds but it's great for the railgun.

actually singular strike excels with the shotgun-type weapon, flak. flak has massive damage overall but it's split between lots of little, inaccurate projectiles. singular strike makes it into a supergun

I also like targeting with the railgun so less shots that cost health are wasted.

Calibrate is only good when you actually make use of it by holding fire though. It synergises with charged shot though, because you keep calibrating while charging, so it's a strong pairing. A rapid-fire build doesn't work out so well for that, though.

The "targeting" and "volley" trees work work wonders for most weapon builds, including railgun. Also you can hover your cursor over the upgrade tree on the right to get a better understanding of what the highlighted mod leads into.

if you want to go long game and try to get as far as possible I would go engineer route and max out your constructs to guardian and maxed out turrents stay in a spot where the spheres overlap and start maxing out defense drones and sheild upgrades make sure to leave the area if a boss is firing there and collect xp before it dissapers. Thats how I got my longest run!

Definitely one of my all time favorite games. I tend to like a stealth railgun build or a charged railgun. I don’t always fire the main weapon. Firing more than 1 shot at once is useful for this. A little guidance mod helps too.

I think you should have picked charge shot because after holding about 2-4 seconds, it DEALS HEAVY DAMAGE like it could went from 1405 to 5400 points of damage

A really good build is to use the spectre body and just go full construction build
You just stand still and go invisible while everything does the work for you
