- Once you get out of making bowls and cups, you will start to make larger or even super flat things that will be hard to take OFF the wheel head without morphing them. because of this you will probably need a throwing bat. there are many different types of throwing bats but most need bat pinns.
a Throwing bat is just something that attached to the week for easy removal after you are done throwing whatever you like :).
I hope this helps some of you dirty potters out there.

well cool clip, very informative and funny. Also a glimpse of your new style on the vase and plate, hmmmmm i like
As usual - great tips. Easy way to introduce this gadget :D
LOL! " SHut up! You know you don't clean your wheel!"
Right I’m 😂😂😂
this just cracked me up too
Hilariously helpful! Thank you!
Thank you. No one ever told me about the issues over time of the clay build up.
Thank you! Very helpful. :)
“Throw them in the alley to die with Batman’s parents”.... 🤣
I love your videos! And the way you talk, it’s entertaining, fast and efficient 🤩 question? Your bats are made of?
You should do a video on how to throw a pitcher. You should also include what you glazed it with and the final product.
I've been trying to find a tutorial on throwing a double walled pot like the Icheon pots that have carvings piercing through the outer layer. Would you happened to be able to give a tutorial on that technique or have info on where to find instruction regarding that?
Thank you! Danté.
Hey there random viewers, if you are looking for an alternative to "Bat pins". Any hardware store has 1/4"-20 Socket head cap screws and 1/4" wing nuts. If you have larger bats you may have to use 5/16"-18 Socket head cap screws and 5/16" wing nuts.
Do you have any suggestions for getting those blue bats off the wheel more easily? I’m trying to throw plates and bigger bowls, and when I try to remove the bat the piece ends up distorting because the bat is gripping the bat pin really tightly. Thanks!
I successfully used a bat last month for 2-3 pounds bowls. Today, both pieces I was working on pulled off the bat partway through. One moment, they were nicely centered and stuck down, the next they were sliding off into the pan like skaters on ice.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Do I still need to wire my plate off the bat or will it come off itself as it dries?
Baman's parents....🤣 ...so wrong...but so true....
What do you do about bat chatter? I notice my bat sometimes moves when I center and then there is a wobble in my clay that I wouldn’t have if I wasn’t using a bat. What… am I doing wrong?
I work in a shared studio, and out of all the bats in the place not one work on the wheel that I use. So I made some out of canvas and attach them with clay.
I just use nuts and bolts for bat pins they work well enough
I bought my wheel used and the bat pins were completely fused with the wheel head. Now I can pretty much only through with a bat =/
i dont think my wheele head has holes for a bat? do i drill them in?
also great vid you have great teaching skills while also having amazing humor
I’m guilty of using a bat for a small bowl, but in my defense I threw 6 plates after and the pins were already in...
Lol he said visible holes
