Humminbird XPLORE, Using Included Lakemaster VX Chip to Help You Find Structure & Lake Erie Smallies

- The Humminbird XPLORE has replaced Solix and larger Helix units. It comes with an included Lakemaster VX chip covering Canadian and US waters. The VX chip enables you to do 4 depth highlights in addition to the shallow water highlight. Depth contours with colours make it much easier to interpret changes in bottom contour as the contrasting colours reveal subtle changes that you may miss with conventional mapping. Join me as I help you learn more about the XPLORE and how to use the Lakemaster, Coastmaster VX chip to help you find fish holding structure. I will also share some Lake Erie Smallmouth locations found by studying contours.
Thanks Steve us older fisherman with older hummingbirds toys appreciate your videos ❤
Thank you, one of the primary reasons I make these videos is to help people understand and make better use of their electronics.
Another great info video. I installed my new Explorer system this past weekend, the network was pretty easy, but my question for you is the front won't pick up on the down image, what settings should I be checking?
Also I'm wanting to add a mega 360, but it looks like the connector is totally different, and do I connect it to the modem or the front monitor?
Thanks, Brian
The Mega 360 is a transducer connection, not an Ethernet connection. Do you have a built in transducer on your trolling motor with down imaging capabilities?
@stevechiassonfishing5876 yes, but that is with the small connection, need a special adapter? I want to use a 360 tho
Your front unit is also an XPLore Unit so you don’t need an adapter cable as the adapter MKR-MI-1 is for Helix units. If you want to add M360 and also use the built in MDI+ transducer there is a Y cable available 14 M360 2DDI Y. If you have the built in transducer already connected to your unit, just make sure your connected transducer is being recognized by the control head unit. You may have to change the connected transducer to the built in choice matching your trolling motor transducer.
@stevechiassonfishing5876 yes I installed the Explorer 10 on the dash, and Explorer 9 on the front, have them tied in with the Humminbird network box, they see each other I just can't get the transducer to work on front unit. Not sure if I need a wye cable to connect to both or not.?
@Nutintoitbut2doit You only need the y cable for both together. Your XPLORE 9 is likely set up to look for the SI transducer that will come with it if you purchased with transducer. Therefore you have to select the “connected transducer” heading and select the built in transducer. Try the sonar xpress menu. It may be under a different tab on the XPLORE.
Can we use that color range with navionics cards or is it only working with lakemaster cards ?
The 4 depth highlights is a feature of the Lakemaster VX chips only. It will not work with the Navionics chip to do these depth highlights.
@@stevechiassonfishing5876 Thank you for the reply. Might be a dealbreaker for me and I think I should go with Garmin in that case, !
@@povsfish Depending on the area you fish, the Navionics or Lakemaster may have better coverage so that would also be a consideration in your final decision.
