  • This is the quick and easy way to start modding. No, it's not perfect, but you got to start somewhere! Get a bigger knife and make it smaller.

    You make it really easy 😂 I will try.
    I’d love to put the 93mm awl inside a 91mm tool, thatd be easily be the perfect tool for me since I low the awl inside the alox tools but I like to carry the mini pliers with me for small work

    I have two Cybertool M knives, and would like to delete the pliers on one set. Thinner than the M, +scissors compared to the S. Also, I paid $24 for the second one, so...cost effective.

    My ideal I really want to start with a swisschamp. Remove the fish scaler, pliers, wood saw, and can/bottle opener layer. And then swap the small blade with a combo tool. So first layer blade/combo tool. Second is scissors, third is metal saw/file, fourth is magnifying and Phillips. My dream. Possibly keep the wood saw but likely not necessary.

      that's almost exactly my unicorn SAK right there, the only difference being i'd keep the wood saw rather than the metal saw

    Tempting...
    I want a SAK that I can bring with me when flying. I'm thinking of starting with a Climber (I have two) and just removing the blades and the reamer, making a two-layer. Thoughts?

    I made one with the cyber tool. A small knife. The magnifying glass and the pliers.

    Great video. I'm going to make a 91mm with a blade, pliers, corkscrew, and TRY to take the philips bottle opener off of 58mm rambler and put it where the small blade usually goes. NO liners between the scales bc i got the alox scales, and have the slimmest best 2 layer ever!

    • @decoyboat
      @decoyboat  Год назад +2

      Cool man! I don't think you can get away with no liner on the pliers though. Possibly on the blade side, but I am guessing the rivet in the pliers is going to hit the scale...at least without some grinding. Interested to see how it goes! GL!

      K&S sells a 2.5mm, but you can’t buy 2.2 easily at least in the US. You have to sand down the 2.5 or buy the size in between. It’s like 2.3mm equivalent or something like that. I forget the standard fraction size they sell

    Hi! - And a happy new year! Do you have any tips for someone who wants to bother with the "stupid bushings"? I really want to make my own Yeoman (or possibly Scientist), I have all the parts (like the mag lens and in-line Phillips) and I have quite a bit of tools that I think will be sufficient for the job. But I haven't found a video/picture tutorial. Can you or anyone help?

    • @decoyboat
      @decoyboat  Год назад +1

      I was just thinking I should do an online class and sell parts :)
      You should be able to figure it out though. Just use long pins from a donor knife. Be careful when you drill it, and you can reuse the bushings. Then just peen them back in place on the new knife. Just do it slooooooooowly, otherwise, you'll mess it up and be upset. Trust me on that one!

    Isn't a hair dryer easier than hot water ?
    Wouldn't a centre punch be better to spread the brass pin head ?

    • @jwilsonhandmadeknives2760
      @jwilsonhandmadeknives2760 Год назад +1

      A center punch isn’t the way to go. In fact, this is exactly what a ball pein hammer was invented for. Peining is super simple, and since you aren’t trying to make beautiful round rivet heads (these will be hidden under the scales) you don’t even need a ball pein. Any hammer will do. Repeated taps is all it takes to swell the pin head into a rivet.

    How about using new rods. A
    How to i get the bushings on the first side of the rods?

    • @decoyboat
      @decoyboat  Год назад

      You need to be very careful and drill out the brass rod and keep the bushing intact. Go slow and drill the center and eventually the bushing will start to spin and then you can pull it off. Then you can reuse them and the rods, provided you are making the knife thinner.

    You must work in government somewhere, somehow as only a true bureaucrat can talk this much and do absolutely nothing. "How-to talk a lot and do nothing" All show no go hand wave fest.
