- I am so happy right now! AUM has been updated with AUv3 Multi-Out Routing and it is a game changer! We're finally able to use the side-chain inputs in AUv3 plugins like FabFilter PRO-Q 3, PRO-C, RoughRider3 by Audio Damage Inc and ToneBooster EQ, just to name a few. In this episode of haQ attaQ I'm showing you how to use and setup an AUv3 multi-out routing system for some proper side-chain comopression action. It's time for full on tutorial mode!

😅 After reading a few comments, I realise that I should have talked a bit about why I sent the side-chain signal after (post) the drum compressor instead of before (pre) the drum compressor. You get a different side-chain signal depending on if you’re sending the signal pre or post the compressor. The thing is that I like sculpting the actual side-chain signal a bit with compression before I send it anywhere else. Also, sometimes I’ll over-compress the drums to get a specific type of over-compressed sound. When I do, I’d like the side chain to pick that up too, in order to get get a ducking that is consistent with the overall drum sound. So then It’s beneficial to set the side-chain signal send post the drum compressor.
Jakob, I would love it if you did more of this 'studio tips 'n' tricks' stuff. I'd consider becoming a patreon for it, in fact. You explain things really well.
Ditto
Same. Much love to you Jakob
tx303 Totally agree 👍
Me too
Me too dude!

Please make more of these slowed down and detailed tutorials for us that aren’t as advanced as some of your other viewers. Thank you.
Nice one Jakob... I saw the update as well this afternoon and was playing around with the sidechain effect using Toneboosters eq while I was in the bus....One thing I noticed, you don’t need to put two instances of the compressor..Just put one on the lead, turn on sidechain, then on the kick channel you load the multi- ( whatever they call it)🤪..and choose from the drop down menu....
This is how I did mine though...Thanks for the upload Jakob and for teaching us all these years.....🙏🏾
Henry Nwosu Sorry for answering late, but i found your comment in the spam section. RUclips messes up sometimes with that stuff. I’ve cleared your comment now. I have another reason to why I’m adding a compressor to the drum track and why I’m sending the sidechain post that compressor. I wrote more about it in the pinned comment. 👍🏼
I would definitely watch your production truck videos especially now that we have proper side chaining features.
I've just started getting into music production and kept thinking, "I know Side-Chaining is important... But what is it?!"
And magic! You made a video about it AND used AUM + Figure (which I actually paid for BEFORE it was free!)
Then got side-tracked with learning about Theory, Family, jobs, etc.
I've always found your videos extremely useful and entertaining. Really did enjoy your awkward moments whenever you actually showed yourself on camera! Genuine laugh out loud moments for me!
I'm personally interested in more of these production type videos and hoping others speak up and say, "YES! MORE VIDEOS LIKE THESE PLEASE!"
10 minutes is a good amount of time investing into learning about a small important part of production! Keep it up, man! 🙌🙌🙌
Extremely helpful to beginners like myself. 👍👍
Thanks Jakob! I am also keen to see you do a deeper dive video into the extra sidechaining and production techniques you teased us with!!
Thanks Jakob! I always return to your videos to re-learn how to do stuff. Your way of explaining things just makes sense to me.
More production tips and tricks please Jakob. Cheers for a very concise and clear demo. Cheers. Lee
Amazing update! It’s incredible how good AUM is. I am only quite sad that we still don’t have landscape mode on iPhone... it would make things far easier - having one single channel on the screen is quite limiting.
Would have also been nice to be able to open AUv3 windows through the midi matrix - far easier and faster than scrolling when you have a large setup.
Please upvote if you’re an iPhone user, we need this 😪
Also: props for
1) remembering window position and size - huge difference for iPhone workflow !
2) midi gear connections being restored automatically! 🤯
+1 for opening AUv3s from the MIDI matrix ... but I’m on iPad 🤷♂️.
Btw, that’s what apematrix is good for! :P
Orafu Da yep, i agree it’s one of Ape’s best features - as a matter of fact I only switched to AUM after I updated my phone from 12.0.1 to 13.3 which completely destroyed my performance when running ApeMatrix... now it crashes with little more than 3-4 instances (I used to run over 14 wth Apple lol).
Now I mostly use AUM but miss the good old features of ApeMatrix 😪
Super clear as always. Thanks!
all the AUM videos man, please, it's totally changed my production style.
Nice!
Great work, Jakob! 👍
Fantastic, well explained and useful ... once again 😊
I appreciate you my brother!
Well done like always
Excellent.
Fantastic Jakob
Thanks as always man! Great tutorial
Very useful. Thank you Jakob.🤙🏼
Jakob! Great as always. Even more so. Really good explaining these things. Superb!
Great, Jackob! Very usefull one, thanks a lot!
Thanks for this explanation! And really good sounding track!
a great learning Jakob
Yes, interest there is:) great tutorial
Thank you so much for this man! Keep up! I really love your videos ;)
Nicely explained Jakob.
Great video. I am going to try this out. Very helpful, Jakob!
Thanks exactly what I needed.
Nice track Jakob!
Thank you! It's really helpful tutorial and beautiful music!:)
Wow, wow, wow! This and Bram Bos Scatterbrain all in one day - blowing my mind! Game changer indeed! (I need to sit down....)
Thank you for a great tutorial...🙏
Oh and a big ‘YES PLEASE’ to more production tips....😊 pretty please.....
Definitely deep dive into how tos!!!
Yeah would dig some of these little tricks; nice stuff
Yes...please do an episode about your production tricks...!!!!!!!!!
Aaah exactly what I was looking for. The music is also great. Thank you 🙏 YES! I’d love more content like this. Take care man 👍
very interesting good sir
Please do do more of these, yes!
Sick, I literally got AUM two days ago and I was looking on how to do this, and found this.
I went into AUM and the multi bus option didn't pop up, which left me puzzled. Went back to the vid and saw that it was from today and I literally got AUM one day before the update😂🤯
Sick stuff, bringing together my modular and loopy is one jolly combo:)
Like. Well explained
Super useful and easy! I personally would ask you to make more of that in-depth tips and tricks vids; your super clear and fun presentation makes it desirable to watch and inspiring! Thanks
AUM has and still is amazing.Great video showing the new features.
Great video! More production "tricks" videos? Yes, Please!!
Much thanks Jakob. I am definitely interested into this type of iOS production. I dont know much about this so this video was very helpful to me. I know I would like to learn how to do this in my type of production.
I'd love it too if you did more of this 'studio tips 'n' tricks' stuff
Jakob, thank you for this first video on the topic. I would very much like to watch a deep-dive tutorial on the matter and have you thought of setting up a special Patreon area for this type of material? I would be in
Thanks for a very good tutorial. I really appreciate it 👍🏼
My pleasure!
Thank you, Jakob, for this follow up on your 2016 video on side-chaining. I kept hearing the term "side-chaining" and knew I could count on you to provide the very patient and detailed and down-to-earth explanation you did. I promise to start chipping in after I get back on my feet!
Bang on!!! Game Changer is exactly the right word. The quality of people's mixes will go from Amateur to pro overnight! Exciting times ahead! Cheers for the update Haq, and apparently Samplr's has got an UPDATE AS WELL!
Thank you Jakob. At last !
And yes- pls help us a bit with production tips and compression strategies:)
EPIC!!!! @7:30 - Niiiiice Work!!! 🤗😁👊
Hey Jakob!! Thanks for your videos!! Your enthusiasm about iOS music making is very contagious!!
That enthusiasm is much thanks to viewers like yourself too. 👊🏼
Thank you for this video. I had no idea how to ask the question I wanted an answer to, and Paul Henry addressed me here through a Facebook thread I started on the matter.
Excellent video, please continue making instructional videos - you're style is very watchable and the content is needed ! (especially for an old relic like me!)
Great job! Great news! Observation: instead of pulling up on the insert stem and tapping the the plus icon, you can just double tap the stem to add another insert. Some may find this a bit quicker and/or easier.
😅 I’m so used to the drag up and tap for adding fx slots. I keep forgetting about the new double tap feature.
Yes i am very interested love you man.. Some day i will post my music lol
Excellent explanation, clear and concise. Wish you had been my Latin teacher. 🤓
I’d love some ‘production trick’ videos particularly in AUM, my mixing could do with improving.
thanksssss
Yah man!! Go on with video like that. Go in depth in the world of AUM technique and mostly important the AUv3 and (I would very like to have a video for every FabFilter Plugin)! Go Jakob, do thats you can. Have fun!
I don't use AUM but I like the techniques your are using and the results you got! Very Cool! You have inspired me. Thank You Jakob! Keep up the great work.
This is the news we've been waiting for, ever since Kymatica demonstrated sidechaining in their twitter. Tremendous.
I would definitely be interested in this kind of “music production trix” vid.
Great video as usual! Music tips videos from you would be awesome: knows the ”gear” deeply + has ability to explain things easily + musically creative himself, which means everything is directly relevant - You’re perfect person for it! :)
Thanks aalott
Thank you for watching! 👊🏼
Holy wow! I'm a baby/noob sound designer and know very little. I always wondered how EDM producers get this sound. Thanks for teaching us! 💞
Great stuff, and really instructive, Jakob! For my part I can say that I would love to see some more production tricks. Why wouldn't I? And why wouldn't anybody else, guys?
YES to tricks videos PLEASE !!
This is awesome! Please do more videos on iOS production tips!!!
Don't be put off by low view numbers Jakob - I and a lot of others find your more detailed insights into various apps and FX are invaluable ... they show us how the sounds can be manipulated. And how AUM can now be used proper!!! How excellent.
Many thanks for all your work and enthusiasm Jakob. Now - off to experiment.
There is definitely interest in more technique oriented tutorials. This was great. Reviews are great but knowledge is valuable
Jakob Haq please make a video showing how you did this song with all the four instances of RoughRider3. I have no idea how or why you have this set up. Technical instruction videos may not be popular but at least do this one. This is the main demo track promoting this new feature.
Hey Jakob- would really really like to see more ‘how to’ stuff. Thank you.
I work as an iOS developer BUT I make electronic music on my PC/Mac. I'm impressed with how much iOS music-making has improved! AUv3 Multi-Out Routing is the kind of thing that makes me want to check iOS again.
Btw, I think Figure is the first music-making app I ever used on iOS reaaaallly long ago (after Garageband I guess?)
Yeah the multi-out is a welcome upgrade and I want to see it’s implementation standardised for AU hosts. I’m sure we’ll se loads of interesting new plugins that uses this in weird creative new ways. I’m also happy since I can now get closer to the kind of production workflow I used to have back when I was using desktop DAWs.
FYI. You can double tap anywhere on the vertical line to add an app instead of going down to the +. I found it by accident.
More of this please
Lovely bass at 7:20
I would like to hear these setups while they are playing and inserting the fx plugins. if you could set it up and just slide them to the eject side it will disable it without removing it and you could slide them back into place while playing. It would be helpful to hear the differences side by side by toggling them in and out.
Man! The Synthwave track is great. Finish it !
I’m new to your videos - more production vids please
I would watch a video on more side chaining!
Real side-chaining in iOS finally! I'll try replacing Pump House with this in my system
Roughly 6 days after video post and so far there are at least 32 comment posters that agree they’d watch your ‘tips’ etc vids! (That is not even including all the peeps in agreement within each of those posts replies!!) I too would most-definitely-absolutely watch any and all of those type videos if you were to create them..
What say you Jakob?
‘HooQ’ us up!!
Love this I wish cubasis and bm3 will do this
The developers might be afraid that people will stop purchasing desktop versions and just work on the iPad and does desktop is where the good money is at for Fab filter
More production tricks please :-) no such a thing as too many!
More!
More Tips And Tricks. Please!
Hmm… my comment appears to have disappeared. Great concise video on production tips. More please Jakob. Cheers. Lee
Oh it appeared after all. Ha.
You can, since the previous version, just double tap to add another effects slot, and in the midi groupings double tap to add another midi effect/generator slot.
Habit! I drag up and tap by habit. 😅 Keep forgetting about the double tap.
Hey Jakob,
not sure if you have already or not, but you could make a video about getting "production level" sound out of Drambo? Basically something that one can simply jam "live" and it will sound great without post-mixing/mastering.
Cheers from Munich!
Kristaps
That’s also an awesome track!
I have to know how you made that bass line! That bass is just buttery smooth, warm, deep, fat and melodic. Oh man, how did you do it?
I bet you did it with Uno Synth, am I right? :)
Another good vid mate, I appreciate all of the vids you put out, you work hard to make them informative & polished with a little bit of sillyness. I will be going back to view them all again.
You should have at least 50-60k subscribers by now. People need to click like on these vids to keep this quality content coming.
Maybe 10-15 minutes is about right to explain a new feature and another vid of 20 mins exploring possibilities, I don't know, I subscribe and like so I'm happy. I like short 10-15 min nuggets of new information to remember, longer than that is too much for my little brain then longer more involved vids that I plan on following along with one day 😀
Just keep doing what you're doing.....please
Hey dude did you ever make a follow up video on the post processing that you touched on at the end? I’d love a link if so! Thank you for this, really helped me tonight with the dawless techno setup.
AU multi out route, saves u a couple syllables
Keep These video going Jakob, not all your watchers are Crack Babies, Pros and Bros moving into the Ipad revolution do watch your videos like these. Im enjoying this right now on the Deutsche Bahn, from Essen to Munich.
Great! We've finally arrived in the DAMN '90s! (hehehe)
BTW: Great video showing how to get a grip on this strange implementation of side-chaining... thank you!
I‘m up to producer tricks ❤️
AU3 sidechain. Simple, short, no pointless “v”, no mishyphenated geek elaboration - just the important bits we need.
👊🏼😘
