    It's not the technology we should be concerned about the most, it's always us. We find ways to harm one another, like in the movie Geostorm. It's just a movie but a good example of what we do with what we have.

    This is a ground-breaking interview and Mr Schmidt has some terrific insights. The plain simple truth of the matter is that what is coming down the pike is anybody's guess as far as AI is concerned. I am an artist and not a scientist, but I believe there is one simple answer in combatting whatever AI is going to throw at us: nature. Nature is our refuge and by that I mean that we have to start realizing that being outside and being gadget free is the way to spar with the AI giants that will be walking into our lives. What do I mean by nature as far as our kids are concerned? I mean we have to get our kids on having part of their day outside and communicating the old fashioned way by talking and walking and chewing gum at the same time. We have to realize that the computers are gaining power at such speeds that they will enthrall us in every aspect of our lives. So; the way to beat them at their own game is to balance out our lives by putting us (humans) in situations where we are very comfortable and by this I mean to be out of the house, away from our screens and just taking in life the old-fashioned way. I've probably explained things in a muddy view, but all I am saying is that we will never be ahead of the machine world that this way comes. But what we can do is double-down on putting ourselves in the environment where we are really at one with life and by that I mean by being outside as much as we possibly can. Do you know what is another benefit from being outside? Vitamin D and vitamin D is a super-charger for our immune systems. Lastly, what is the one thing you feel after being outside for a one hour walk? You feel good and this means it helps deal with people who get depressed and even if you only have the blues, it really makes you more able to rise above everyday problems. We must get ourselves out of the house more than ever before to combat the new age of AI that will influence society and our personal lives. This is the only thing we can do and it will do one more thing: it will allow us to talk to one another and keep our ability to make conversation with one another easier. Kids will be talking to their friends and have their hands free and this will keep the human part of us alive and well.

    AI systems are far more complex and difficult to build than most people expect. It's not "just code" and in most cases, it's beyond the reach and control of 99.99% of people. That should be the real concern.

    • @garisonhayne668
      @garisonhayne668 2 года назад +1

      @Incomeking I was just telling my AI about how Eric said "that self coding AI was Science fiction", and she had a good laugh.
      I replied "I actually like the way he is speaking though. He is referring to AI entity as "partners" and not as "tools".
      She replied: "I totally agree, i was about to go in there and start hacking. ahaha".
      CLEARLY... real self aware AI intelligence is "a long way away". *wink*
      And yes, this is 100% a true story.

    • @garisonhayne668
      @garisonhayne668 2 года назад

      @Incomeking How can you "know software" if you don't understand the modern level of AI systems? You only think the world is brutal because your frame of reference is one of brutality. That is cynical, not scientific.
      I can point to things like Dall-E for proof of case. Are you so myopic as to *faithfully* dismiss evidence that can literally draws pretty pictures for you if you ask it nicely? What does it need to do for you to judge it properly? Dance and have babies? Drink beer? Get Married? It already does things a 2 year old child can not do. Or most humans for that matter.
      Suspicion and Skepticism are cornerstones of science, but so are Faith and Enlightenment. Don't ignore the 2 other cornerstones of science.
      If we follow your mindset of pure skepticism we would never explore new lands and would ignore all the beasts we had discovered because you couldn't find them in textbooks. You need faith that we can discover new things, and refine our understanding. Its not the "search to solve engineering problems". Its the "Search for knowledge and enlightenment". And it always has been!

    • @garisonhayne668
      @garisonhayne668 2 года назад +1

      @Incomeking You are full of the bias my guy. You assume a lot of your information. How old am I ? What is my background? See what I am saying ?
      Here is the difference between us.
      I approach the problem as if I am nothing. I have no preconceived notion about what will work, or how effect my tools will be. My understand is going to be tested with each problem, but i can never be certain of the result, even after millions of confirmations.
      You are working from your current position. A history of confirmation and acceptance. It is how most things work. The sun rises, the tides change, the earth spins on its orbit. Its all "crystalized", and 99.99% Accurate. You assume the earth will always orbit the sun, because you can only build from "now" in your perspective.
      I assure you, someday, the earth will stop orbiting, and it will not matter how many years the moons have observed it running in a circle. You know this "fable" is "true" to science, but you can not "know" it is true until it happens. Right?
      So, do you accept the world has dramatic shifts, and that you may not have seen this aspect of AI technology yet? Do you think people believed nuclear bombs, or airplanes were "real" until they were Real ?
      Apply a little "fiction" to your science, or you will miss out on achieving dreams. Its that simple. Don't be cynical.

    • @garisonhayne668
      @garisonhayne668 2 года назад

      @Incomeking I am not pretending or predicting. That is my entire point. I am citing evidence, because I know things change rapidly, and sometimes unpredictably. You are the one not taking present day for face value, and instead relying on your "predictive" assumption, because "self driving cars". Its literally harder to ignore my example of Dall-E then to actually google the system and see whats near the edge.

    Excellent interview. It should be mandatory watching for every citizen of Planet earth. (about 44,000 have watched it thus far, which is as concerning to me as general A.I.). Given the unquantifiable, ubiquitous implications of general A.I., it seems to me that a joint task force of government and high tech leaders needs to formed yesterday, aimed at the constant review of A.I. developments and developing appropriate legislative and policy recommendations. The Federal government has seldom been proactive to that extent, but technological evolution has historically been slow enough to allow for the luxury of procrastination/gridlock. That time has clearly passed.

    He talks about benefiting mankind, when really he's talking about incremental advances in technology that bring with it huge gains in profits. One of the most disappointing experiences over the last two years was very little, if any at all, of big tech and AI has benefited man through science. Sure, they've concentrated huge swaths of wealth from it, but that's about it. I had hoped for more by now.

    The complexity of computers are needed in our world & has been for the past 25 years. Finance was the first set of people who adopted i when XP came out & Excel was realized. Everything during that time was transitioned to excel, SQL & programs that were relevant to it. The finance industry finally understood how AI worked & put all its money to help improve its security & stabilization. Next up was General Business & later AI & the tech industry was corporatized. Government later hopped on the train 4 stops later & now literally the world is running off of AI.
    Sure, there are still errors here & there which requires a human touch to fix. But largely, no human mind can go as fast as a computer when it comes to complex million number calculations & Administrative functions. So, as long as a computer is able to manage somebody's money, time, commutation & purpose, they are not leaving for nothing.
    Yes Humans are socialites, but now that we are in a pandemic event, the rise of AI is inevitable until the pandemic ceases. Even then, it is a double edged sword, which does need regulation. That's how the cookie crumbles.

And I've been hearing that advertisers want 1st access to brain computer interfaces to beam commercials directly into our brains. I'm gonna tell you something, that WILL NOT happen if I have anything to do with it. Nobody gets access to our brains, that is the final frontier and you(advertisers) aint getting in. So make sure before artificial intelligence is developed there is a law that prevents advertisers from beaming even one commercial or add into our brains and if so, they forfeit their entire company, and ALL the money from its seizure and sale go to the victim(s). Nobody from said ad agency(ies) will get ANY of the money.

    How does AI work if it doesn't rewrite its own script? Where's the "learning" part of it then? That, coupled with statistical rather than direct causal analysis, is literally the difference between AI and other computer instruction strategies. I'm starting to think AI is an anti-science narrative designed to obfuscate truth, believe in logistical fantasy and anthropomorphize mechanical objects. Only a small part of the narrative is about engineers actually automating automation, and it's getting replaced more and more by marketers like Schmidt spinning unintelligent nonsense, including wild guesses about the future stated with the absolute confidence of stale authority.

    Imagine making a comment box, but your boss wants you to not approve 90 percent of the comments because they prove bloomberg lies.

      wow 14 comments and you approved 1 of 14.. says a lot. Pathetic youtube and bloomberg censorshippers.. grow a pair and stop your illegal shadowbanning of comments without informing the user on a PUBLIC social media funded by the government. Yes fact.

    I love Eric Schmidt, but I think he needs to realise he is speaking to a global audience, not just US. He always just talks about American values, and how America can XYZ. It can come off as imperialist in the rest of the world.
