    IMPORTANT NOTE:
    Do it only if you are sure you want to try it and you are ready for anything. Don't do it if you are not sure.
    I just show you how I do it and what I found out about the hair behaviour, when the layers are cut in a certain length in YOUR PARTICULAR CASE! That's important cause everyone's hair is different. It might not work for you as well as It worked for me.
    🙋🏼 ABOUT ME: Hi guys! My name is Alyona. I was born in Russia. I'm a musician. And I love art, makeup, fashion, style and beautiful environments. I love playing with makeup and fashion, but at the same time, I’m quite a minimalistic person. I don't like the idea of being fixated on the body too much. I have an alternative and unconventional viewpoint on beauty, the body types and face shapes. I love helping other women find their "it" and finally discover their beauty and boost their confidence.
    I have several series on my channel that you might be interested in such as: Body Types, Contouring, Makeup History and Makeup Transformations. Also some random beauty hacks about skin care, hair, nails and beauty in general.

    As a licensed cosmetologist, this technique is amazing! Unfortunately, most hair stylists are in a hurry, not trained with a straight razor, are taught NEVER cut on the top layer, obsessed with every hair being even, and just don't have a general understanding of the physics of the hair itself and/or head/face shape. It's why I went to school and have cut my own hair for over 30 years. I watched a guy at a hair show do this technique to curly hair, cutting each curl to lay where he wanted! Beautiful!!!

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I will definitely be trying this very soon. My hair has always laid extremely flat on the top of my head and I have NEVER been happy after leaving the hairdressers. I have tried different ways of explaining what I like, I have tried letting them do what they think would suit my face shape, I have tried taking in photos of hair cuts I like on other people with similar hair to mine, I have tried cheap places, expensive places and all the places in between. Nothing has worked. A few years ago I decided that I will never pay for a haircut again. And I have been doing it myself ever since. It's not perfect, but it's better than what I have ever paid for. And I get better each time. Last month I decided to ask my husband (a mechanic) if he would give it a go for me. After showing him a couple little snipping techniques, he cut my hair for me. So far, it is my favourite haircut yet. And finally, I am comfortable wearing it out.

    I do this too! I heard it’s called beveling. I started doing this a few years ago and I love the results. I have wavy/curly hair and I’ve always had the triangle poof no matter who cut my hair. This technique was the only thing that helped get away from the triangle 🤷‍♀️

      Amber Cotrone I’m a hair stylist and beveling is usually done on the very ends of the hair and can be turned under with longer hair on top or it can be flipped up with longer hair on the bottom. The technique in this video is slide cutting to texturize the hair!

  • @TongnChic
    @TongnChic 5 лет назад +10

    Well Done Aly!
    This has been a basic consultation that many stylists use to explain weight and shape. Being an artist, you have naturally understood your own bone structure in 3D. Not only did you start cutting your first section at a place where the bend in your hair adds volume, you made the length land (visibly) on the top of your cheekbone. Shaping hair to support bone structure in 3D is where many people get lost. When weight and length work with the angles of the cheekbones or jaw or clavicle, it can visually lift the bones, extend the angles and add lightness, height and strength to the overall structure.
    Believe me most people will not be successful in shaping their own hair in three dimensions but it is so great that you successfully educate people with terminology and concepts they can convey to their stylists.
    Thank you for your channel, you are a generous and worthy educator!

    I've had my Cosmo license about 30 years and back in the 80s, before I went to school, I learned what you are talking about. Back then it was called Overdirecting. Our big boofs of hair were cut like that. Shorter near the part, graduating to longer and longer layers. I cannot get anyone to do my hair either. I've cut it myself 90 percent of my life! You learned very quickly, :)

      Jessica, you can cut your bangs. It is so easy, and youtube really is one of the best teachers. Just watch several youtube videos on people cutting bangs the way you would like yours to fall. Go slow. Cut just small segments of hair at a time. I promise you, you will get the hang of it.

    I’m a hair stylist and it isn’t shit! What you are doing is texturizing by slide cutting!! A similar thing happens with a razor cut-but razor cutting can give fine hair a frizzy flyaway look . This technique is great for bangs that you want to look piecey. Be careful in bangs tho-it’s easy to cut too much out!!

      julia findlay I think unfortunately many people don't want to think about things. They just want to recreate and doublicate. At least from what I see everywhere around me. It's really sad imho because that takes away the creative process of finding perfect solutions for ourselves. Some might say they got no time for that. Others probably don't see a difference. Everytime I come here and read through the comments, I feel like here are so many people who appreciate their individuality and that makes me happy :)

    "I'm not a hairdresser." but yet, u know more than at least 90% cosmetologists! Besides, a true hairdresser would ask if u want layers or another method 2give ur hair volume!!
    ~I went2 cosmetology school & found it ridiculous sum of their methods they found true. My biggest pet peeve was that they said it was a myth when 1 shaves &/or plucks, the hair does NOT grow thicker, but the angle it grows at makes it appear thicker.

    • @silvermoonshineX3
      @silvermoonshineX3 6 лет назад +7

      can you help me explain why my shaved hair grows not just thicker but also *black*? My bodyhair is blonde except for some parts where I ONCE shaved. And no one ever believes that on some people it will grow back thick and black if you once shave it :| I kust can't find any scource on the internet for an explanation because most scources say that it's a myth. How can it be a myth if I see it myself on my own body???

    • @JuliaKirsty
      @JuliaKirsty 6 лет назад +6

      silvermoonshineX3 usually, from what I know, when you shave your hair, you cut it right where it grows out of the skin. So you remove everything that could potentially be damaged and you create a flat end (hair that has never been cut has a fine and pointed end) so it appears darker and thicker when it grows out. Usually that effect is lost once the hair falls out naturally and grows back after that (because by then it will have that pointed tip again). What's possible though: when you had health based problems that made yoir hair grow less or thinner/fragile and you shave it off while you're recovering, the new hair will grow thicker because it's nourished better. What's also possible is that your hair was damaged in some sort and will grow out nicely once it's shaved. For anything else I have no explanation. When you had no health problems, no damaged hair, shave it and it grows thicker from that moment on, I don't know why it does that. I think many functions of the human body are still not fully understood by science. But shorter hair is more dense anyway because hair lives up to about 7 years and falls out after that. So when you have long hair, there will always be shorter, newer strands and longer, older strands. Same for body hair (but each part has a different lifetime. Like about a month for lashes etc). I don't know if that explains anything to you.

    • @silvermoonshineX3
      @silvermoonshineX3 6 лет назад +1

      Julia Kirsty I have heard some things that you said so often. No I had no issues whatsoever and if I were now to shave another blonde part it would also grow black back. Whats interesting is that they stuck up at odd angles and do not lie flat like the rest which really annoys me. They also grow longer, it looks like they get no "stop" signal like the rest. I wonder if I they'd grow forever but I don't wanna try it out 😂 anyway, still thanks

    I often cut my own hair and use a razor blade (the men's blades you get in packets to put into razors). You have to be very careful holding it, but it's very sharp and flexible and they are cheap so you can change to a new blade when you feel it getting too blunt to slice through the hair nicely.

    Do you think creating more hair volume on top of the head will help balance a jaw that is too big and too long?

    • @PolarBear-rc4ks
      @PolarBear-rc4ks 3 года назад

      I'm not aly but I think it might? And possibly some big pieces surrounding the face. Think of it this way: if someone had a very pointy face, and sharp features. Would it stand out more with a sleek/flat cut, or a voluminous cut?
      The voluminous cut around the face and at the back will make the head more in "sync" with itself, whereas the sleek cut will look separate and the pointy face will stand out! (Balance is key)

    Aly, love your videos, they're always so helpful and based on really solid, nuanced visual principles/perception. One thing I never see in ANY video by anyone (and believe me I've searched a lot!) is talking about hairdos (not hairstyles/haircuts, and not for 'face shapes' which is just straight-on) in profile/3D - like working with convex/concave profiles, the different shapes/flatness of the back of the head/skull, and why buns look so terrible on some of us in profile, no matter if we wear it low/high/midway ! Like Mulan in disguise as Ping...! Could you make a video on that topic?

    Thanks Ally, May I know whether we have to have a partition to use this technique, bcz I just comb my hair up without a partition purposely (it may create one at the end of the day but in different places)

    Just found your channel a few days ago and I love it ! You have a very special way to look at different things and you can explain your conclusions very good.
    I have very fine hair and a I´ve found a different way to more volume: I stopped using shampoo, I use indian herbs instead (Amla but only for dark hair ! Blondes can use rye flour instead) My scalp loves the absence of chemical substances and started to grow more and the hair itself has now a better substance, it´s not so weak anymore.

    When you got to the long thick curly hair, you were 100% correct about how it always ends up with volume on the side but still flat on top... I have been dealing with that for 40 yrs... I have hair exactly how you drew it and it always ALWAYS looks just like the 2nd sketch after a haircut....I always tell my hair stylist how i want it to look in the 3rd sketch, but it NEVER happens... now i can tell them what to do! Thank You!

    One has to have good communication with ones hairdresser to get "custom cut" hair. Not always easy to explain/understand what a customer wants. :)
    Curly hair is more often cut like that, piece by piece.. it's more forgiving. In straight hair shorter pieces can show up more easily. But it looks very good on you!

    Colossians 2:20-23
    If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations - "Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch" (referring to things that all perish as they are used) - according to human precepts and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
