The initial cutscene is a normal MP4 video, not an actual in-game graphics. It can not be normal in-game animation because the world is not loaded yet. It can't even be loaded because the shaders are under pre-compilation.
the original game too uses PBR materials but the extra depth you see on those surfaces in the remaster is due to the added parallax maps (which add fake detail in flat textures without needing extra geometry).
@@sannikbej I see! That's badass! They did the same in Horizon Forbidden West with animal fur and ocean foam. As I know, it delegates much work to the GPU.

When I had a Ryzen 5 3600, I would always have a bit of a performance dip in the bigger settlements in Horizon Zero Dawn. I'm not surprised the stutter is still present in the remaster with even more npc's
Running on AMD ryzen 9 7950x 64gb ram with rtx4090, 4K all max settings 60 fps, runs like magic. The only issue I had was Xbox controller issues but seems to have been fixed with latest patch 🎉
The funny thing about Nixxes ports on how dynamic resolution works is that it doesn't. It absolutely tanks my performance on ratchet and clank, no matter what value I set it do (even after restarting the game).
They haven't mentioned the fact that the game runs out of VRAM on even 10GB cards if you're trying to use very high textures at 1440p, sticking to the high preset is best advised if you own a 3080 10GB or any other card with 8-10GB VRAM.
I mean, yeah. High textures take a lot of memory. The option is there and gamers somehow think they can crank everything to max. Like sure, the rest of your system can handle it. If people want to just see everything on Ultra but GPUs don't really have the VRAM for it then all devs can really do is crunch the textures a bit before they deliver the game to you can call them the highest quality anyways so you can see an "Ultra" in the settings screen, since real 4k textures are just gonna blow through most users VRAM budget.
Damn I am so privlaged with 5800X3D and 4070. 1440p max settings, DLAA+FG mostly 120 fps+ and my frame time graph is flatter then my ass. Frame generation is magic. Didn't saw less then 100 fps but some times it goes above 130. 2 small stutters over about 50h of gameplay. Cutscenes still not perfect but no frame drop after camera angle changed.
@@gameison4813 Just tweaked around in the driver, turned off reBAR, now with high textures it works perfectly fine without spilling over into system memory. Nixxes ports are great, they should handle VRAM with a bit more care imo. This is some kind of PCI-e bandwith bottleneck, on gen 3 systems like mine (motherboard), the fps drops in nixxes ports are much worse on 8gb GPUs
I have been going back and forth between the two versions on my Ryzen 7 5700X/Radeon RX6600/32GB 3200Mhz for about 10 hours. I can play the OG one on high settings @ 60FPS @ 1080p native and no FPS drops. Never. The new one is harder to run. I can play at high settings with FSR quality and framegen and then it never, ever drops below 60FPS and runs and plays very smooth, but that comes with the FSR/framegen artifacts, but those are not too pronounced on my good ol' VRR-less 40" TV. Without FSR and framegen it drops to around 56-58 FPS here and there and thus stutters or tears the screen. With dynamic resolution I also have frame stutters that keep occurring during camera movement, that's why I choose framegen instead. IMHO for 10%-20% extra graphic fidelity over the OG one, the remaster runs 33% harder... And in my case with FSR and framegen. I am positively suprised by FSR3 and framegen, it wasn't as bad as expected, but I prefer native resolution and a solid, real 60FPS. Oh... I am running Fedora Linux 41 on my desktop PC. No Windows. I'd rather have Sony remastering the exclusive PS3 titles that stayed on that system.

It's DLSS ultra performance at 720p. that's 33,3% of 720p. A insanely low resolution. that's lower than the PS1. They did that to remove even the slightest possibility of a GPU bottleneck.
I think this remaster was unnecessary and is a testament of Sony playing it safe instead of creating new original games. On PC the original runs so well and looks so good that I see no point in backporting the Forbidden West engine updgrade to the original. From my subjective perspective the water shading does not look as good as the original, too shiny and clear. Then there are the character model swaps which I personally find to be questionable. From the business perspective it is also a shady move to delist the original so new players are forced to buy the higher priced remaster when they could have offered the update simply as a 10$ DLC for everyone. Glad to have the original my library already.
I'm not very far into the remaster, but what stands out to me most are the improved facial details like the peach fuzz on Aloy's face, and the dialogue scenes are more naturally animated. Those scenes are far less stiff than the original.
I read they used the processing power of raytracing to improve the sound quality and reverberation in the game world at least in Forbidden West so likely in the Remaster too.

How about we stop making generalizations like that. I understand you have to be critical times, but this statement is not information or a critique. The problem is that everyone prefers to sing Nixxes praises while ignoring the consistent recurrent issues that comes up in their ports. It gets difficult to give genuine criticism because of this. Momentary stuttering due to VRR and VRAM overflow are two of the biggest issues with Nixxes ports and there is always a deadline to make Nixxes aware of these problems because they abandon updates for games once they're set to release another title. No one can deny Nixxes makes quality ports, they're well known for this at this point, but let's not drown out the actual helpful criticisms just because they're not what you want to hear.
