How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.

Ty here…I want to give a huge shout-out to Todd for bringing you all along for this. Truthfully, our intention was to take the next few weeks away from posting. If you caught the last few episodes, you know that life has been a season of change for us lately and change is something he's always struggled with. Every time he's on his phone lately I say "back in the comments, are ya?"😂...if you're reading this, you already know what the comment sections of our videos look like but I just want to thank you all for continually showing up and showing the love and support you do week after week. As much as it means to me, it's a reassuring voice for Todd that it is okay to not always have it all figured out. Showing up flaws and all is what it's all about. So true! I have something similar. I’m 73, and I have always had a roof over my head, food on the table, and wheels (most of the time). It might not have been as much as we wanted ,or the roof might have been a tent, but I’m still here, and somehow my needs are met, so I’m just not going to worry now! Thanks for your encouragement 🤩

Seeing the boys as puppies when you were starting out was so adorable!! And that packing system was amazing. Can’t imagine how hard this was, maybe more emotionally, but also physically. Those spaces look amazing, such great vision you both had.

It is hard to leave a house that was also a home.
I left a home that I lived in for 35 years. Raised 3 children there.
I can't count all the pets buried in the soil. That was the hardest, leaving the dogs behind.
Furniture and stuff is just that, stuff. The heart of your home is not the sofa, or a chair or a desk. It is the memories. And now you are making new ones.
Having moved around 7 times in as many decades I understand the attacchment and emotion very well. In our current home we've been here since 2008 and short of another giant meteor hitting the Yucatan Penninsula this is where we will stay. Hugs to you both and the furbabies. I'm glad to see that you're switching from AirBnB to long-term rental. I know you're still going to have to deal with a rental manager but with the housing shortages, it's a kind choice you've made. I hope shipping everything across country isn't like crazy-expensive.

Growing up in Europe, my mom still has our childhood home. When I moved to the US, my very first apartment, it felt like it was my baby. When I closed the door for the last time and gave the keys I cried like a baby. Today, I relived the same feeling with you both.

I do remember when you renovated that first house. Walling off the stairs and putting in the washer and dryer. You recorded only parts of it, but talked about what you were doing. I also remember you having to clean out the garage full of “stuff” and trucking it away, somewhere. Yep, been around that long.

I always get a tear in my eye when I do a final walk-through when moving. All the memories come flooding back On the other hand, It's so cool that you have enough stuff to fully furnish both houses, and having most of it familiar it will feel like home right away.

Re: the QR Code introduction around the 7:00 mark - This was so adorable! I could see Tyler's eyes glossing over as soon as the word QR was said lmao, but that interaction was so, so, sweet! I totally empathize with Tyler too, I'm the panicky/anxious person in my family and I do the exact same Deer in Headlights expression with certain details (ok real talk, all details lol). You two are really awesome for working with each other so well!

These homes that you put together are so beautiful. Your taste is impeccable. Your younger selves and younger dogs are so cute. You have accomplished so much in your time together. I'm sure all of that beautiful furniture will grace The Land and The Lake wonderfully. I am sixty-eight and disabled and no longer have the kind of ambition that you two exhibit. I'm so happy that you are still young, able, and willing to do so much to enrich your lives.
That last bit made me cry. It's really good of you to turn your properties into long term rentals. Here in the US there is a huge housing shortage, especially affordable housing. My landlord told me he's selling the property here. I live in a tiny apartment in the back, and I will need to be out before the sign goes up. Fortunately they will be doing some repairs before putting the house on the market. I've been looking, and there isn't anything in this county where I've lived for 35 years that I can afford. Or the state. I own a very small old RV that may end up being home for me, my dog and my cat after a LOT of work. Best of luck to you both. 💜

We have to move next year when Zack finishes med school, and I want to do exactly what you two have done, including vacuum shrinking the foam mattresses. We take our memories with us. We sold and moved from the house my husbands grandfather had built. We had lived there for 55 years and raised our childdren there. Now we live closed to our family during our aging years. Best wished to you both and the fur babies .

Goodness my lovelies, thank you for bringing us with you for such a tough journey. I sobbed when we left our home in the UK of 11 years for Ireland and then again when we left our home of 8 years in Ireland to move to Spain. All the memories and love shared in those homes is hard to leave even if you know it's what you want and need and for the best - still hard. It's a break from the past, from comfort and stability but most of all from a home that you built together with the boys before we even met you. Thank you for sharing - love you both xxx

We worked on emptying our house and our in laws condo. We used the PODS so we didn’t have to rush either. We’re not spring chickens so we could work at our own pace. I also highly recommend it.

@@premadimauro2691 I have an Airbnb place that I used to live in. I could block out dates and go and spend some time there, but obviously with a long term rental you can’t do that. I would be a bit sad about that, but it makes sense for them to make that change because of the new laws Regarding short term rentals in Canada

It's hard to say good-bye to houses that become a home especially when you lived there for years. I always have a place in my heart for the house where I Iived for 15 years, middle, high school and college, it's also the place where my older brother died from a seizure. I remember standing in his old bedroom for the last time just crying and doing my last walk thru all three floor of the house and the yard where we had cookouts, birthday parties, get togethers. The attic is still my favorite space, my parents had turned it into a studio style room for me. We still talk about that house to this day. You guys are doing great, even though life's roller coaster.
Related to this down deep bc I’m currently packing my house of 13 years. Saying goodbye to blood, sweat and tears put into my home, as well as the person I was when I moved here. It IS hard and emotional. Sending love to you both 💜💜

I love the way you two work together and support each other, that you're turning short-term rentals into long-term (I'm in Edmonton - we so need them!), that you were back here, even briefly, that you are stepping back when you need to. I was pretty pleased with myself for numbering boxes and listing contents in a spreadsheet when I moved last summer. Tote Scan is a whole new level of organization! I am grateful that you felt you could share the closing of this chapter with us. You're good people. I like knowing you're in the world, adding Tyler and Toddness to it.

Well.... you guys are doing better than we with the rentals....we had 6 properties in Edmonton...nice ones... all over the city and we sold everything because the rental market there is BRUTAL for an owner. People just destroyed our place.... ruined high end appliances, doors, lighting or simply didnt pay rent. Nightmare. Glad we are out of the housing market there and bought in Burnaby BC where qe live..... dream renters here. So bizarre. Being landlords from a distance even with a rental management company is hard.

Oh my gosh, the tears over leaving I felt SO hard! When we left our house rental we had been in 6 years, including the pandemic, for the tiny house, I sobbed in the driveway. “Some one else can make memories here” ❤ To new chapters!

Its exhausting for starters..REALLY exhausting...which messes with your sense of logic and sensibility... so in the end, at least for me, I always end up leaving things behind or getting rid of stuff that I really wanted to keep. I LOATHE MOVING!!!!

But please remember one thing. That first house you lived in is just a house. It was the two of you that made it a home and you’ll always cherish the memories you built there.
I had to explain this same thing to my two nieces that wanted to buy back their grandmother home. I had to remind them that grandma is gone and that house would never be the same without her. It’s just a house and they have the wonderful memories with her when they were children.
What a journey ! I remember thinking you had an eye for property development seeing your rented out flats. Happy times in there…but it will allow for new beginnings ! 🥰

Thanks for sharing this! I am always amazed at how much the two of you achieve in such short time periods. You have to be two of the hardest working individuals on RUclips. I don't think people realize the extra effort it took to film this while also doing all the packing. Please ignore the troll comments, they are almost always from people who feel miserable and are trying to make some company. They are also a very small minority but human nature tends to cause us to focus on the nasty comments they make rather than the thousands of other positive comments. I look forward to seeing if you end up requiring another pod. 😀

I get how this is an emotional thing for you both, it would be for me too. Hi Tyler/Todd, this made me cry (happy tears) to see not only your beautiful love story. But to see how much work and love you both put into both places. And the ending, OMG! When Tylor got emotional, that got to me. And Tyler, it's ok to feel overwhelmed. Moving and packing is not an easy thing to do. Thank you both for sharing your love, your support for each other and your accomplishments. That was so beautiful to see. BTW, I love the barcode organization thing. I need to hear more about how that works because we're selling our home and we could really use something like that. Also, your mattress... Can that be done with any type of mattress? Or do they have to be foam mattresses? That was brilliant!!! Love you both so much!!!
I love you two! I have watched ya'll for years! The title scared me to death because I thought I'd never see ya'll again! I don't comment allot but you two mean the world to me! As Todd said as they left that they had made some wonderful memories there and now it was time for somebody else to make their memories there.
I think some people should agree to disagree and move on. The video was so lovely. I love the way you designed the spaces and gave those areas the T&T treatment and not just a boring conventional look . The space is exciting from the minute you walk into either of the three apartments and not one of them is the same. Did it all fit in the pod ?? ❤❤

T&T Unbelievable it's been 3 yrs already since you packed up your things from down stairs.
Look at all that you two have accomplished in those 3yrs, learned how to build a dome & container home(🤯), a bathroom, installed a pool, operated a tractor, fine tuned your gardening, yhe list is endless oh & loved one another even more then ever imagined.
I'm excited to see how you decorate your cabin & land in NS.
Are you going to be renting the places out through the management company? The way Todd was tearing up I thought maybe you were selling the properties?
You two have such a see-saw relationship, boosting each other up when needed, I just love it. Not only do you make the best task companions but you are so adorable together as well!
