Jordan, do not be disheartened. My son Josh owned a coffee shop in an eclectic part of Denver for 5 years. He first started it as an artistic experiment. He was in an industrial complex with no foot traffic other than the tenants of a business complex with about 20 small businesses. So his audience was small and if he did not land repeat customers he was dead. He did not even have any cream or sugar on the premises and had cups made that at the bottom of the cup said "death to cream:" and had an image of a cow upside down. He was successful more than I could even imagine. People bought into his idea that he shopped the world for the best coffees, so you should not have to dress it up to enjoy the pure taste. He placed high in local competitions. But most of all he saw people gratified by something very special in his coffees. Offered once a month cuppings. He, like you, excelled in his craft. He even flew to Honduras and met with 52 coffee farmers to see if he could help them harvest differently and net more money for their coffees instead of doing a coop, like they had done for decades. After 5 years he sold his " artistic experiment and pursued a career in piloting aircraft. But for you, you did everything right and because you were not Panamanian, you really did not have a chance of winning. Even with all the negative scores you received, you still got 3rd place. That is really a 1st place, but they could not give it to you for strictly political reasons. That's my take-away and I hope it is yours as well. The real super win is your friend who beat cancer through a miracle from God as my wife Diane has done. God bless your family, we love you guys.

I am so happy about Jose David. That is amazing. My grandpa was a miracle too. God blessed me with 28 more years with him after he was given 6 months to live. His cancer went away it was a miracle. Jordan, you were AMAZING! Don't get down on yourself you rocked it! You have the greatest friends and Kaylee and Sadie are amazing too of course! Hold your head up high!!!
Jordan, I am a big Spiritual person and one thing I can assure you if is majority of the time good people with good souls are not accepted or understood by the world. Never ever ever. I’ve followed you from the start. I am a retired teacher. Your expertise, professionalism and presentation was so beyond the judges’ ability to appreciate, that they literally didn’t know what they saw. Truly. Your trip across the US, your consistent videos, your heart centered living… you just keep on doing THIS. Share what you and Kaley love…and the lives you touch will continue to grow. You didn’t “win” the coffee competition, but you really do have so much more potential. What you will do is far greater than the path you thought you wanted…I just know it!

I want to piggy back on what maybeme94 said. ‘Your professionalism and presentation was so beyond the judges’ ability to appreciate…” at first that might simple sound like flattery from a devoted follower but it might hold a key to understanding the judges.
Growing up in America, it is bred into us that being our best will lead to success and recognition and is reinforced by hearing testimonies of rags to riches stories. Justice, truth and competition regardless of ethnicity, religion, country of origin are pillars in America that for the most part play out but are not always the priorities in the fabric of other countries. Sometimes fairness and opportunity is demonstrated by prioritizing and preserving the indigenous native born population over outsiders. Or a country is a crony society where their elite always land the best positions and fairness holds little value.
At any rate, gaining approval from any authority, one must cater to their idiosyncrasies and know their biases. Especially in today’s world, there are agendas, biases and alliances that hold more sway than the quality performances of any participant. Taking a deep dive and identifying patterns of past winners could provide some insight and strategies for the future.
Taking third place tells me that you are a somebody to the coffee community and they had to give you some recognition. IMO and I could be totally wrong about this, what factored most is what you have done for the indigenous coffee farmers in Panama. You have earned their respect.

@@jgoo4572 I don't think they have ever said that, that I can recall at all. But I also think it sounds sketchy. They found technical errors that last few years, okay fair I guess but this year they just didn't agree with anything and seems all very biased - score them as low as possible so they can't win, but not low enough for the crowd to notice because it seems like everything was spot on. Either way - they win in my book, great group of humans.

Sadly the only family left are my two children and two grown grandchildren, but they have their own struggles to go through. The thing that hurts my heart the most, is not being able to do things with them and for them! I was a very young widow so my children were my life along side with my awesome career which I had to retire due to multiple heart attacks. I miss working in every capacity..at home, at work, work trips and just being “me” 😢

Every time Jose lifted his hands and praised God I began crying 😭. It's so beautiful to see someone on RUclips giving his love to Jesus so authentically. Then to hear about his miracle I cried again 😭. Jordan, your entire journey for this competition had Nothing to do with coffee!!! Man, external measures of success are sooo tricky. You guys are fantastic story tellers, and your passion absolutely shines through when telling the story Jordan! I think José at the end sums it up well - the mesure of success, of personal validation is so conditional. The competition means a lot and meant a lot because people have prescribe value to it. Those scores do not seem fair. This said - you don’t need their trophy nor do you need an award from the world’s best coffee organizations. Remember they can be bought more than likely. You have everything you need already. A beautiful life - a beautiful loving wife-to-be soon, a precious adorable daughter, awesome family and close friends, many many people who watch your channel and think they know you as a friend, and many of those support you and buy your coffee. You already have it all in many ways. If you want a trophy maybe buy one online and put a plaque in it saying how special your coffees are to those who buy it. Keep up the good work and passion. ☕️

When I heard that Jose David’s doctor had called I began praying immediately. As a cancer survivor I know the terror of calls like that. His message at the end of the video brought me to tears.
