Great that you’ve done this research. My sewing room has carpet, not a hard floor, and you don’t cover carpeted floors. Any chance of a follow up on ideas to stop sliding on carpet? I use the shelf liner mesh, which helps considerably, but does not stop slippage completely.
Yes - I did a follow-up. It's under "Shorts" on my RUclips Channel. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc In addition the Martelli company says that you need to clean the lint off the pad with either tape or a mild cleanser on occasion for it to continue to be "no slip". Hope that helps!
I did an additional video with information about the carpeted floors as well as my RUclips Live of 7-28 talks about it as well. ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
I won the Martelli foot pedal pad directly from Martelli at a quilt show. I was so excited. It was a larger pad and I tried it for a while but did not find it held the foot pedal well at all. I;m surprised you had such a favorable impression. I would have been upset if I had purchased it, but since I won it, there was no investment, other than that I really thought I won a great prize. Thank you for your video!
Sounds like it didn't work for you - but I have used mine for several years and it still holds my foot pedal in place. I am very happy with my purchase and I am not in any way affiliated with Martelli - I just love their products - especially this one.
Just a few days ago I had this issue, but had no time to make a run to grab one of these options....... so I slapped a few pieces of double stick tape to the bottom of the foot pedal, and wha-lah........
I did not have good luck with the shelf liner, but the martelli pad worked the best for me. Both the silicon pad and martelli pad need to be cleaned regularly, according to the Martelli company's instructions, but it worked the best for me. Here's an additional link regarding using it on carpet. ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
Thanks so much for watching! Best of luck! Also, if your sewing room has carpeted flooring or a rug, I did a quick "short" video where I tested on carpet: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
I have been sewing since the summer before 7th grade. I just turned 60 a few weeks ago. This has haunted me for 30 years since we got hardwood floors. Great ideas! Thank you.
@ingridgross6086 Yes - several people have asked that question so I did a little more research and posted the following "short" video with what I discovered. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
If you turn the silicone pad the other way and rest your heel on it ,will work wonders. I use a metal tray long enough to rest my heel in it so the pedal is captured in it.
I’ve tried all sorts including silicon mats and shelf liner mouse mats rubber mats nothing works for me but going to try a couple of your suggestions I’ve not seen before. Thanks for the content.
You're very welcome! I found that the Martelli foot pedal works on flooring and carpet - and for me was truly the best option. Thanks so much for watching!
I bought a roll of rubber textured shelf liner at the $ store,, cheap, put under my sewing machine and the foot pedal. No moving of either and no vibration. Did this many years ago & still working. I used much larger pieces like a small throw rug. I just clean it according to how much sewing I am doing.
I enjoyed the ideas. I"found" a hot pad similar to the one you showed in my junk drawer, and it works perfectly on my vinyl floors. Thanks for sharing the tips.
My foot pedal goes on a "walkabout" every time I use it. I tried the bar mat material but it was an epic failure. I have several silicon mats in the kitchen. I am going to try one of those. Thanks for the tip!
Hey I’m a bit late to this party but I have seen a suggestion to put hot glue to cutting rulers to prevent them from sliding. Perhaps this application may work to foot pedals as well? I would put the glue to the shelf liner and put it glue side down onto the floor. Cover liberally so it is a full cover of glue so as to prevent dust from getting beneath it. I think this seems to be the problem-if dust could get beneath the silicone placemat I believe it would scoot around the floor as well.
I have not had any luck with products shown I had a pad but No Marty Martelli product I going to try the silicone sheet to see if thst one works for me
Does the Martelli mat work on carpet too? My second sewing machine is in my dining room and I have a Persian rug under the table. Great tips. I had also heard of using a dumbbell on the floor. I haven't tried that yet but I agree that the shelf liner is ineffective. 😊
They do recommend occasional light maintenance. I just recently reached out to them and this was their reply in regard to cleaning: "You can clean and refresh the material by using clear packing tape (this will also remove footprint marks!). Just be sure to work from the center out, like you would with a lint brush. Press the tape onto the pad then pull from the center towards the edges. If you work from the edge inward, you can risk pulling up the material from the edges. (a little rubber cement can cure that- but why make more work for yourself 😊)" Hope that helps!
Would any of these work on low pile carpet? I know but I didn't choose to have my sewing room carpeted and ripping it out is not an option. I will certainly try them and let you know how they were.
There is another "short" video where I show the options for a carpeted floor. In addition there is a follow-up about it in my RUclips Live on 7-28. ruclips.net/video/Bf6jFiBEG0U/видео.html and ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
Yes - there's a new "short" video with me experimenting with carpet after a few people asked about that. I found that the Martelli square pad was the only one that worked. The silicon and the cabinet underlays did not work at all...slipped all over the place.
Thanks for the video. My current machine pedal has rubber gripper pad on the bottom, 50 years, no problem. I have purchased a new machine, still in the box, I’ll check the pedal - thanks for the tips. Question - who publishes the super cute log cabin pattern?
Thank you! I made that quilt wall hanging about 20 years ago. I don't remember where the pattern came from or even if I just made it up - but I appreciate the compliment.
You're welcome, thanks for watching! And yes, several people have asked that question so I did a little more research and posted the following "short" video with what I discovered. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
I did post an additional "short" about the carpet. The Martelli Co. says you need to clean the Martelli foot pedal pad regularly (either use packing tape to remove lint or gently clean with a mild cleanser) when it's used on carpet. ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
What about on carpet? I unfortunately have carpet since I’m using an extra bedroom. My foot pedal creeps on that. Would these options also work on carpet?
Yes - several people have asked that question so I did a little more research and posted the following "short" video with what I discovered. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
Nice research. I've had this problem for 20 years! I thought I was the only one who experiences this. Recently, I found a solution that works perfectly with my foot pedal and that is: turn the pedal around so the hings faces me. I lift my foot up onto it and then press down with my toes to run it. It works perfectly and stays put. For all these years I've had it going the other way and it moves all over.
This is great if you have solid flooring I have wall to wall carpeting in my sewing room. We are leasing our house nd so just replacing it with solid flooring.
I have another video that addresses the issue of a foot pedal on carpet. Here is the link if you'd like to take a look: studio.ruclips.net/user/videoLKXHGbg2Khc/edit

I did a little more research, and actually did another "short video" that Alex is going to post. The silicon mats did NOT work on carpet - none of them - but the Martelli Foot Pedal Pad worked like a charm. Thank you so much for your question!
Yes - several people have asked that question so I did a little more research and posted the following "short" video with what I discovered. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
I think I've tried everything as I have laminate floors. Nothing worked 100% till one day a light bulb went off in my brain. I got those command Velcro strips for picture hanging. First I put my pedal on the floor getting it in the position I wanted it, drew around it with a chalk pencil. The chalk pencil will wipe up cleanly. I attached one strip on the back of my pedal and firmly pressed the second strip down on it attaching them together. I removed the paper from the back of the strip then placed the pedal in my chalk outline, pressing the pedal down firmly to attach it to the floor. Of course, be sure your machine is turned off while you do this. Now your pedal won't move and if you want to change it you simply pull the release tape and up comes the Velcro and it doesn't leave anything stuck on your floor. Dollar Tree sells these in a knock off brand for only $1.25. This is just how I solved my runaway pedal problem on laminate flooring.
I did a little more research after receiving a few questions about carpet, and we just did another "short video" that Alex is going to post. The silicon mats did NOT work on carpet - none of them - but the Martelli Foot Pedal Pad worked like a charm. Thanks so much for asking! ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
I unfortunately have carpet in my sewing room. Any recommendations for a pad? I have a mint green one that is old but I don’t know the brand but it does not work well
Yes - there is another "short" video on my page where I talk about carpet. The silicon pads do not work, but the Martelli square pad that goes under the foot DOES work on carpet (low loft and shag) and works well. Here's the link to the "short" video: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
Several people have asked about carpet so I did an additional test on carpet. Here is my "short" video: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc Hope that helps!
Thank you for those ideas. I tried using Command Velcro strips. I put the smooth part on the floor and the pokey side of the foot. It does well but it would do better if I could mount several because the narrow strip of Velcro maybe gets a thread or something and comes apart. I did find when I went to a retreat that had carpet, when I put a strip on my Featherweight, it stuck to the carpet great. Did not need anything stuck on the carpet and had no damage. I think I will try the pioneer Woman mat since it should be easy to get and probably cheaper. If I don’t love it, I could always use it in the oven.
Yes - I did find that the Martelli square worked the best on flooring and carpet. It's slightly more expensive than the other products, but still very reasonable and mine has lasted over 6 years and is still working well.
I recorded a "short" video right after the original video, where I tested the products on carpet. Here are the results: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc Hope it helps you.
Yes - others asked that question after watching the first video so I posted a "short video" with an answer to this question. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
Unfortunately I have carpet I cannot replace in my sewing space, were any of these things test3d on carpet? My foot control almost scoots away frequently. Very annoying
I think it would work to stabilize it. I know there are those who put a type of quilt/mat under their machine to keep it from moving around on the table, but I think a silicon mat would make it even more stable. Martelli has a sewing machine pad that goes under the machine that REALLY keeps it stable, but it's rigid and would only work for travel if you're able to transport it as is since you can't fold it or roll it up.
So I have a kitchen cabinets in my sewing room which means my cabinets are too high for a regular chair - so I use a bar stool - it gives me more storage with the chores but using a bar stool probably wasn't the best idea! However, I have a little step stool on the floor that my foot pedal is on so I can reach it. I ended up velcro-ing my foot pedal to the little stool. This works for my situation. It was really a problem before I did that because my foot pedal was always falling off onto the floor! Necessity is the mother of invention! However I would not recommend velcro going a foot pedal to a floor! 🤣🤣🤣
From what I understand, the pad is made of a non-slip material that needs to be kept free of any accumulation of dirt, thread and etc. It should be wiped down with a mild cleanser to remain effective.
From what I understand you should clean it periodically - either use tape to remove lint or a mild cleansing solution and it should restore the pad. Hope that helps.
I have an additional video: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc It's important that you keep the pad clean either by using tape to remove lint or washing it with a mild cleanser, but from what I understand the Martelli pad works the best for that.
I did a quick follow-up video for carpet - here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc In addition the Martelli company says that you need to clean the lint off the pad with either tape or a mild cleanser on occasion for it to continue to be "no slip". Hope that helps!
I had several people ask about that so I did an additional test on carpet. Here is my "short" video: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc Hope that helps!
@@joyfulandmerryquilting My thought also. My floor is a paper bag one and after 7 years, it's starting to wear out due to furniture moving (chairs) and simply walking on it. Sandpaper would ruin it in a flash.
I did! Several people asked about carpet, so I did a quick follow-up video here: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc In addition the Martelli company says that you need to clean the lint off the pad with either tape or a mild cleanser on occasion for it to continue to be "no slip". I'm sorry you had that experience - my experience has been excellent. I have not used it on a tile floor - only wood - but I have had mine for 6 years and have never had an issue with it picking up lint. I did check several sites where this pad is sold and it is the general concensus that if it does pick up lint you can remove it by placing the sticky side of tape on the pad or wash it off using a gentle cleanser. Hopefully that will help you. In addition, it has been my experience that Martelli Notions has EXCELLENT customer service and if you contact them about it, they may be able to help you as well.
Did you clean it periodically? The Martelli company suggests cleaning it regularly if it loses its grip: "You can clean and refresh the material by using clear packing tape (this will also remove footprint marks!). Just be sure to work from the center out, like you would with a lint brush. Press the tape onto the pad then pull from the center towards the edges. If you work from the edge inward, you can risk pulling up the material from the edges. (a little rubber cement can cure that- but why make more work for yourself 😊)"

I certainly applaud you for your talent. Unfortunately I am not a sewist or a seamstress or a tailor so I pass along my experience with various items I use, from the perspective of a quilter. I'm glad I could help you and your fellow sewists as well.
hello very nice lady very good video i have to ask nicely and respectfully do you ever sew barefoot?please kindly reply back ok?thank you very much 😊😊 and would you consider filming a video sewing barefoot compared to sewing with shoes??
Thank you for pointing that out! It seems I had a "slip of the tongue." Rest assured, I'll make sure to use "siliCONE" correctly from now on. Appreciate the catch! 😊

Thanks
Love the wall hanging!
Thank you!
I have rug under my sewing machine will these products not let it slip?
No options for carpet?
Several people have asked about carpet so I did an additional test on carpet. Here is my "short" video: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc Hope that helps!
@@joyfulandmerryquilting Thanks!
I gave used the shelf liner under my machine to keep it from sliding on table but have not been able to keep pedal fro
Sliding...
I haven't had luck with the shelf liner either...it gets too linty, too fast.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
But what influence does the flooring surface have on this problem?
There's a follow-up video that compares carpet to a bare floor if you'd like to watch: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
What is the outcome with carpet?
I recorded a "short" video right after the original video, where I tested the products on carpet. Here are the results: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc Hope it helps you.
Gorilla type tape can stick the pedal directly to the wood floor and removes when you want it to.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for a great tip. 👍👍
You're so welcome!
I wonder if is non slip on ceramic tile flooring.
I would assume it would work there as well, but I don't have a tile floor to try it on. Maybe someone else has tried that who could comment.
My surface is a carpeting. The pedal still slips. Any ideas?
Yes - others asked that question after watching the first video so I posted a "short video" with an answer to this question. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
Thank you for the great tips, I am going shopping!! ❤
Thank you Mary🧵
Absolutely!
I have the shelf liners and they don’t really work on tile floors.
I agree...I didn't have good luck with those. Thanks for watching and for commenting!
Unfortunately I have carpet I cannot replace in my sewing space, were any of these things test3d on carpet? My foot control almost scoots away frequently. Very annoying
Yes! I did an additional test on carpet. Here is my "short" video: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc Hope that helps!
But what if you have a carpeted floor like my sewing room has?

Wondering how silicone pad would work under machine…especially for travel use?
Wow - that is very interesting and very ingenius! Thank you so much for sharing - I think you came up with the perfect solution!
The Martelli doesn’t work well for carpets. It worked for a little while only. I bought mine last year. Thanks
From what I understand, the pad is made of a non-slip material that needs to be kept free of any accumulation of dirt, thread and etc. It should be wiped down with a mild cleanser to remain effective.
Martelli pad works for a while but coating comes off so it less effective later on.
From what I understand you should clean it periodically - either use tape to remove lint or a mild cleansing solution and it should restore the pad. Hope that helps.
What about on Carpet?
I tested it on carpet as well. Here's the video with the results: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
But what aabout on carpet, i havent found anything. . .
I did this addendum to the video where I tested the carpet.

my foot pedal is on carpet what works for that
I have an additional video: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
It's important that you keep the pad clean either by using tape to remove lint or washing it with a mild cleanser, but from what I understand the Martelli pad works the best for that.
Do your samples work on carpet?
I did a quick follow-up video for carpet - here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc In addition the Martelli company says that you need to clean the lint off the pad with either tape or a mild cleanser on occasion for it to continue to be "no slip". Hope that helps!
@@joyfulandmerryquilting thank you kindly.
@@sunflowerbaby1853 Absolutely, thanks for watching!
What if you have carpet
I had several people ask about that so I did an additional test on carpet. Here is my "short" video: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc Hope that helps!
How about on carpet
There is another video on my channel under "Shorts" about carpet as well. Here's the link ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
Sand paper hot glued to the foot pedal
I'd be afraid that sand paper may damage the wood floor...
@@joyfulandmerryquilting My thought also. My floor is a paper bag one and after 7 years, it's starting to wear out due to furniture moving (chairs) and simply walking on it. Sandpaper would ruin it in a flash.
Did you try on carpet? I’m so anxious to try your solution!!
I did! Several people asked about carpet, so I did a quick follow-up video here: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc In addition the Martelli company says that you need to clean the lint off the pad with either tape or a mild cleanser on occasion for it to continue to be "no slip". I have a low pile carpet on my floor. Anyone tried on low pile carpet
Yes - I did a follow-up. It's under "Shorts" on my RUclips Channel. Thank you. I tried the silicone pad and it works great. Thank you again for your follow up
Rubber glove, works
Never thought of that! Thanks for commenting!
Really bad experience with Martello foot pedal pad. Picks up an abundance of threads and lint. Also slides in tile floors. Very disappointing.
My Martelli did not last that long!
But do they work on carpet?
Yes - there is another "short" video on my page where I talk about carpet. The silicon pads do not work, but the Martelli square pad that goes under the foot DOES work on carpet (low loft and shag) and works well. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/shortsLKXHGbg2Khc
The Martelli works great unless you have cats lol.
I have a cat...so far so good...she hasn't been interested.
I use an old mouse pad.
Thanks for sharing!
LOVE that idea! I have several of those.
People who sew are not called quilters. We’re called sewists, seamstresses, tailors, ect as well. We also hate sliding foot pedals.
Thank you for your comment! I'm just too afraid of pins floating around in my sewing room to sew barefoot...I only sew with shoes or slippers! :-)
I sew barefoot most of the time because I hate wearing shoes. But if it's a big project with the danger of falling pins, I wear slippers.
SiliCONE not silicon!
Thank you for pointing that out! It seems I had a "slip of the tongue." Rest assured, I'll make sure to use "siliCONE" correctly from now on. Appreciate the catch! 😊
Sili....CONE
Yes - I do discuss Silicone mats in the video and the one I used was effective in keeping the foot pedal stationary.
