Have you played the Aliens Eradication tc. Its probably the only Aliens franchise game/mod that expertly delivers action horror rather than just action or horror.

It's like as if it was designed by Rick Taylor himself. Yes, the one with the Mask... There is no better expert.
Wow... is 03: 05 for real? Doom movement? lol I wonder then, what would you say about the movement in Quake? Cause that's where you have a true ice hockey with a shotgun! Frankly, i wouldn't even touch Quake on PC literally for YEARS, exactly for this very reason until one my friends taught me the "sv_stopspeed" command. And it still is the first thing i do when playing Quake. Strangely enough, Hexen 2, which uses Quake engine as well - has perfectly balanced movement, and feels a lot like Quake 2, which i find ideal. But ice-skating in Doom movement? Honestly, that's one thing i could never imagine anyone saying. Then again, as the famous expression goes: never say never, there is a first time for everything 🙂 I do have to disappoint you regarding the revolver sounds. This here revolver is rather generic, and while it's decent, but it ain't something to write home about. There is a rather long list of revolvers with simply superb sound. I'll give you a few examples right away: the best is definitely the revolver in Shadow Warrior remake (the 2013 one), while the second place has many candidates, but i'll go with the same talented guys from Flying Wild Hog: Evil West, Jesse Rentier's six-gun. On the note of the westerns, - Blood West has great revolver FX as well, completely deserving the third rank - shared with the equally expert-tier developers from People Can Fly: Bulletstorm. A better revolver right there. Even the obscure can occasionally deliver: Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green - boasts a very impressive revolver as well, a whole different level. Packed-in with its exclusive headshot fx. And the list of top quality six-shooters can go on. Johnny Ringo says hello ;-) !
Im surprised you never heard that before, a lot of people agree on the ice skating movement in DOOM its well known 😅 I agree that quake has icey movement, but I also know that some GZDoom games dont have this ice movement so it is possible to re code it just as DISDAIN has done, that feels much more like a non slippery quake then doom but in the doom engine. I also reviewed the game for what it is, a free game with zero microtransactions. And for that some things overly impressed me like the revolver. What you are mentioning is AA - AAA studios and it would be very, very bad if they had worse sounding guns then a free doom mod has 😁
@@ZlimBratSki Well, with Quake, - the running speed lacks the precision of being able to stop on a dime, and the effect is particularly felt when strafing. If your playstyle is based on precision, then it becomes uncomfortable to the point of not playing. ("sv_stopspeed" command solves it). More so, from all ID-Software-created games, this issue exist ONLY in Quake-1. No other creation of John Carmack feels like it needs such adjustments, at least that was my experience. And the fact that this issue was corrected in Hexen 2, also says something. For the other point, I'll go with a disclaimer upfront: i am in no way nitpicking on the game in the review. Just having a conversation about little bits of sound design, and the chances of an average joe VS a big corporation in the creativity field (since you brought it up), and the chances are...(spoiler alert, lol) excellent! Particularly impressive sound designs always fascinated me, such as in "Butcher", for example. While that game is not my cup of tea, but i totally take my hat off to the sound engineer there). So, you mentioned it was impressive, - and i got curious. :-) I've been doing sound work for a good while, some neat mods too. And from experience i can tell you this: sound modders work with a starting source material (99.9999% probability). Which means that the final result depends on: A - quality of the source material and B - creativity and knowledge of the SFX designer. So, a no-name joe-shmoe has all the chances to outmatch a "big dog" from an AAA studio - IF(!) the said joe-shmoe is more creative, has better approach to design and gets a hold of a quality source material (which today isn't very hard). I've seen this being done, and i've been there. It even gets particularly easy, if the "big dog" soundman is being lazy. (ID Software is one such example, haha). A person working for a big corporation - does not mean that he (or she) is obligatory a great talent because of that. Plenty of evidence around. Today, modders can be far more creative and far more dedicated than any AAA company. More skilled often too. So in this specific instance, AAA or a cave under a rock - the odds are even. A great sound design is a great design. "can't touch this". Extremely hard or even impossible to outdo. But to mod(!) an equally(!) great design (or almost as great) - is totally doable, even for the proverbial joe-shmoe. By no means easy, but nonetheless doable. Creativity and source material, not a huge team of a big corporation.
I lack the insight you have in the development process of the audio design. My POV is just an average gamer with little to no experience in the development feed, but I love reading you comment and learning :) Altho my opinion in the review stands with me from my POV it impressed me and stood out :) And I will keep pointing out things like that and keep in mind it's from my POV but that said please don't stop with the comments, i'm learning a ton from them and I love having civilized discussions!

by Rick Taylor himself. Yes, the one with the Mask... There is no better expert.
1:57 or not ?
Or not what? 😅
Wow... is 03: 05 for real? Doom movement? lol I wonder then, what would you say about the movement in Quake?
Cause that's where you have a true ice hockey with a shotgun! Frankly, i wouldn't even touch Quake on PC literally
for YEARS, exactly for this very reason until one my friends taught me the "sv_stopspeed" command. And it still is
the first thing i do when playing Quake. Strangely enough, Hexen 2, which uses Quake engine as well - has perfectly
balanced movement, and feels a lot like Quake 2, which i find ideal. But ice-skating in Doom movement?
Honestly, that's one thing i could never imagine anyone saying. Then again, as the famous expression goes:
never say never, there is a first time for everything 🙂
I do have to disappoint you regarding the revolver sounds. This here revolver is rather generic, and while it's decent,
but it ain't something to write home about. There is a rather long list of revolvers with simply superb sound. I'll
give you a few examples right away: the best is definitely the revolver in Shadow Warrior remake (the 2013 one),
while the second place has many candidates, but i'll go with the same talented guys from Flying Wild Hog:
Evil West, Jesse Rentier's six-gun.
On the note of the westerns, - Blood West has great revolver FX as well, completely deserving the third rank -
shared with the equally expert-tier developers from People Can Fly: Bulletstorm. A better revolver right there.
Even the obscure can occasionally deliver: Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green - boasts a very impressive
revolver as well, a whole different level. Packed-in with its exclusive headshot fx.
And the list of top quality six-shooters can go on. Johnny Ringo says hello ;-) !
Im surprised you never heard that before, a lot of people agree on the ice skating movement in DOOM its well known 😅
I agree that quake has icey movement, but I also know that some GZDoom games dont have this ice movement so it is possible to re code it just as DISDAIN has done, that feels much more like a non slippery quake then doom but in the doom engine.
I also reviewed the game for what it is, a free game with zero microtransactions. And for that some things overly impressed me like the revolver. What you are mentioning is AA - AAA studios and it would be very, very bad if they had worse sounding guns then a free doom mod has 😁

Well, with Quake, - the running speed lacks the precision of being able to stop on a dime, and the effect
is particularly felt when strafing. If your playstyle is based on precision, then it becomes uncomfortable
to the point of not playing. ("sv_stopspeed" command solves it). More so, from all ID-Software-created
games, this issue exist ONLY in Quake-1. No other creation of John Carmack feels like it needs such
adjustments, at least that was my experience. And the fact that this issue was corrected in Hexen 2,
also says something.
For the other point, I'll go with a disclaimer upfront: i am in no way nitpicking on the game in the review.
Just having a conversation about little bits of sound design, and the chances of an average joe VS a big
corporation in the creativity field (since you brought it up), and the chances are...(spoiler alert, lol) excellent!
Particularly impressive sound designs always fascinated me, such as in "Butcher", for example. While
that game is not my cup of tea, but i totally take my hat off to the sound engineer there). So, you mentioned
it was impressive, - and i got curious. :-) I've been doing sound work for a good while, some neat mods too.
And from experience i can tell you this: sound modders work with a starting source material (99.9999%
probability). Which means that the final result depends on: A - quality of the source material and B - creativity
and knowledge of the SFX designer. So, a no-name joe-shmoe has all the chances to outmatch a "big dog"
from an AAA studio - IF(!) the said joe-shmoe is more creative, has better approach to design and gets a hold
of a quality source material (which today isn't very hard). I've seen this being done, and i've been there.
It even gets particularly easy, if the "big dog" soundman is being lazy. (ID Software is one such example, haha).
A person working for a big corporation - does not mean that he (or she) is obligatory a great talent because of
that. Plenty of evidence around. Today, modders can be far more creative and far more dedicated than any
AAA company. More skilled often too. So in this specific instance, AAA or a cave under a rock - the odds are even.
A great sound design is a great design. "can't touch this". Extremely hard or even impossible to outdo. But
to mod(!) an equally(!) great design (or almost as great) - is totally doable, even for the proverbial joe-shmoe.
By no means easy, but nonetheless doable. Creativity and source material, not a huge team of a big corporation.
I lack the insight you have in the development process of the audio design. My POV is just an average gamer with little to no experience in the development feed, but I love reading you comment and learning :)
Altho my opinion in the review stands with me from my POV it impressed me and stood out :)
And I will keep pointing out things like that and keep in mind it's from my POV but that said please don't stop with the comments, i'm learning a ton from them and I love having civilized discussions!
@@ZlimBratSki I love having civilized discussions too🙏
Videogames and design especially lol 🙃
@ZlimBratSki i guess you did your research first i am the guy that said you forgot about that mod 🤫 ibut i am expecting one more 3A mod video wolfenstein blade of agony
Oh there will be plenty more doom mod videos 😁 I just need to play them first 🤘
Yeah Ashes is Awesome so much game for NO! Money!
Ooooh yeah 🤘😁
Don't play or review doom or mods if you don't like the movement.. it biases your review
You could not be more wrong, the movement can be altered to feel different in Doom mods. My review hopefully helps more devs realise that it could benefit them.
It's like saying don't review anything if you have anything bad to say about them
