Thanks so much Glenn! I've looked at lots of Videos and yours makes the most sense. This is Sue, I like to try to fix things and thank the Lord for helpful guys like you.
I think the first few minutes answered my question. I have a Power More push mower that feels like it locks up when I pull the rope a few times. I happened to think about the valves and thought I would research it a little. I have had to adjust valves on riders that would not turn over. That is what made me think of the valves in this 3 year old push mower.
Much appreciated! Very helpful and to the point... Love the "outtake" about the valve cover 😂 ✌️ Sounds like something my Dad would have done 👍😎 He was a master mechanic, like you apparently! Blessings from Georgia 🙏
Just found a 5-20 yr old mower at the curb. Air filter looked like it was never changed. Plug fouled, Oil everywhere. Cleaned it up starts and runs good but hard to pull. Flywheel key was good. Should've caught the clue of the oil mess. Valves where in need of adjustment. Good as new now.
Haha, the valve cover on mine did the exact same thing, I had to use a razor blade so I wouldn’t ruin the gasket lol! I searched all over for the specs but for some reason I couldn’t find them so I watched your vid and there they are. I set them the same way as you, intake open and set exhaust, exhaust open and set intake. I don’t know why they always try to make you do it the hard way.
For some reason no matter how many times I make the adjustment they won't stay in specs. I rotate the engine and the rockers are way loose again. Checked the push rods and not bent. I did hear a clacking when started last and went away when the rpms went up. Short of pulling the head to check the valves. I also noticed a small pice of metal in the rocker cover that looks like spring material? Thanks for your input.
There are 2 methods to adjusting valves as I tried to explain in the video. The hard way and the easy way. 1. The hard way is while turning the engine over ( clockwise ), go 1/4 inch past top dead center on the (compression ) stroke. Then if you did that right now you can adjust both intake and exhaust valve. A lot of things can go wrong this way. That is why I made this video. 2. Easy way is open the exhaust valve all the way open and then adjust intake. Now open intake all the way and then adjust exhaust. Done. Please watch my video again and you will see how I try to explain this. Much faster than my typing. : ) Thank you
@@IFIXIT4U You actually explained it very well in the video, and you've just gone the extra mile. You could have just said 'Watch the video!', Or you could just have not replked. Kudos to you.
@@IFIXIT4U Thanks for the advise who ever had it before me had the valve to tight I redone them and it fired right up been mowing with it all day thanks for your help

Thanks for the video. The valve cove on my B&S 550EX is stuck. Tapping it and grabbing it with large channel locks won't work . How can I remove it ?
Watch the out take at the very end of the video for a clue. Hope this helps. Thank you.
Good lesson learned
Thanks for watching
Good video and repair brother 👍 subbed
Awesome thank you!
Awesome video. Thanks so much
Thank you
Great video

Revolutionary! I'm going to try it that way. Btw, I try to turn The engine over with the blade but nothing happens!?! Ideas?
Love the bloopers 🤣
Thank you : )
Iv been working on mowers for 40 plus years..and today's mowers are junk..plastic carbs. I just picked up 20 old school Briggs..love the old stuff
Thanks Greg.
Does all have a set screw #10?
No. Many different sizes and styles.
Thats how I adjust the valves because of the cam lobs don't wear even
What model number is that mower? Mine is 8P5020110F1 and can’t find the valve clearance spec specifically for these model
Same valve settings. Follow instructions in video. Thank you.
Good job
Thank you
😂😂 always comes off real easy
Thank you. Lol.
Have been watching your videos for the last couple of weeks. I have subbed. I see you dont bring them to top dead center on the compression stroke

very clear. ty
Thank you
With the valve out of adjustment would it cause one not to start and pop through the carburetor?
Yes it could. If the intake is set to tight (no clearance). The intake valve would not close completely.
Thank you
@@IFIXIT4U Thanks for the advise who ever had it before me had the valve to tight I redone them and it fired right up been mowing with it all day thanks for your help
Where did you get the progressive feelers I like those
You can find them on-line and in some auto parts stores. Very handy.
👍. Very helpful.
Thank you. That new director might work out ! 😁
4 and 6 mm?
.004-.006 inch.
Hell yeah...you fix my mower I guess I owe you a beer..lol..
Yes you do! : )
Nice video
Thanks
What year is your lawn mower? because mine is 2015 and i don't know the clearance between valves
I've heard 0.05 intake and 0.08 exhaust i don't know
Set them on 005 . The specs show .004-.006 . The year is not important but its 2014.
thanks
Thank you I really appreciate it
exhaust valve 015.00mm intake valve 010.00 briggs 500?
