37" NITTO Trail Grappler Tires on a Ram 1500 Road and Trail TEST

  • This time on AutoEdits we test out the new 37" Nitto Trail Grappler M/T off road tires on Ram Johnson... the 2009 Ram Truck 1500 HEMI.
Hop on board as I explain how I chose these as the next set of tires for the Ram Adventure Truck project and put them to the test on a twisty canyon road, some freeway miles, and finally... off road!
One of the main reasons I like these is that they offer a major durability factor for most of us that use our rigs off road... and are comfortable for all of the everyday stuff like city and freeway driving. Plus these are strong enough to tow with... major benefit to folks that haul stuff to the trails as well.
    www.nittotire.com/light-truck...
As a quick reference... the tire pressures I'm running around town and on the highway are 30 PSI cold and they end up at about 34/35 as they heat up on the highway. Believe it or not... that is where I get the best fuel mileage as well (in my Jeep I get best MPG's at 28 cold PSI). So all that canyon carving in this video is at that pressure to give you a reference... plus they are very comfortable.
The air down pressure I ran in this video was 12 psi and as you will see... these tires offered TONS of grip and sidewall flex.
I'm extremely happy with the Trail Grapple M/T's so far and stay tuned for the continued adventures with this truck... I'm thinking rear locker next???
Please go to the AutoEdits Amazon store and take a look around to see if anything strikes your fancy... anything you purchase from there helps a little since I don't do patreon or any of that stuff.
I can honestly recommend picking up a couple of those Grease Monkey "Bones" Gloves... I have them in every vehicle now and use them in the garage everyday!

I’ve got the ridge grapplers too. They do good in the snow and on ice, but they’re not nearly as good as the BFG KO2’s I had on my truck before the Nittos. After these wear out I’ll either go back to the KO2’s or try the Wildpeak AT’s. I’ve hear those two perform similarly, but the Falcons are less expensive.

So will be highly interested to see how the Nittos work out on wear. Btw does Hungry Valley bring back memories. I grew up in Northridge and Woodland Hills. Back in the day there was no dedicated park. Just go anywhere Frasier, Gorman and so on. One time when out in Mojave Cyn we started at Jaw Bone Cyn to Dove springs to a trail called Sherman Jeep Trail which took us into the Sequoias into Kern I can't remember after that was to long ago. The crazy thing was we drove off road all the way back to the valley with only one crossing over freeway one time. I think it was Pacomia cyn. That was in a Chevy 3/4 Silverado back in the days of white spokers wheels. lol I am now in AZ for the last 13 years.

It ended up with a 1 inch forward rake, which I like a lot. Is that Icon kit only 2.5" as well of lift? Hey Jason! Your ram inspired me to pick up one of my own! Wanted to pick your brain. I know you're running 37s on an older 6speed transmission truck but I'm running an 18' with the 8 speed and 3.21 rear axle ratio. Because of some weird design piece by ZF in their transmission to front dif connections, you can't get aftermarket ratios put into ZF trans trucks like mine. That being said, do you think its a bad idea to throw on a set of the lightest 37s I can find to run on my rig even though it only has 3.21s? Would love your input if you have the time. Love the videos 👍

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  2 года назад

I like to hear this! Even with how good the 8 speed trans is... 37's on that ratio would be a lug on the low end. Probably fine on road but climbing in 4Lo is where you'd notice.

I've been following your channel for a wile now and really appreciate all the great info! Especially your ram truck.
I would like to build a ram but not sure whats a better platform... a 1500 with the IFS? or a 2500 Hemi with the solid axles. Ive herd you mention the IFS being a bit of a scare for you at times, worrying about it, But I'm not sure if your upgrades made that stress go away???
I've always bounced back between a jeep jku and a ram 3500 cummins...but neither can do what I need, the Jeep Jku cant haul the family around comfortably, and the Diesel ram just weighs to much to take on serious trails...
And I would Love a truck or vehicle that Can tow, haul, overland, and wheel, and be able to use it as a work truck.
Could you recommend to me whats the best ram to start with in your opinon? Id like to keep costs down, so new power wagon is outta the question...would like to start with a 2014 and older and build from there.
    Much appreciated

Im stuck between getting 39 inch km3s or the nittos in a 37. Bfg runs small so they’ll measure out roughly the same. What are your thoughts? I had km3s in a 37 and i loved them but I’ve heard these blow them out of the water

    • @AustinH7

I would really like to try the KM3's in a 39" to get first hand experience but from what I've seen with people I've wheeled with... the KM3's rule in the rocks but are not very good in inclement weather like snow/ rain.
