Followed Malmsteen since the 80's. What amazes me most about his playing is not what he plays, but HOW he plays. Sitting here nonchalant in a guitar store he plays effortlessly with the same fire and energetic stamina as if it was live and sweaty on summer night on a 102 degree stage!
Yeah it’s completely effortless. I saw him live. The dude barely even picks and the whole show he was more focused on his stage presence than his playing and he absolutely ripped through like 50 Marshall Plexi heads in a small club for 2 hours lol and couple of played 5 more hours I’m sure. It was so loud I couldn’t hear for 3 days but it sure was awesome. His sweeping is almost unmatched and it’s so effortless.

It doesn’t make me feel anything at all, other than “oh that’s cool that he can do that”. But musically speaking it doesn’t work for me. SRV, on the other hand, can make his guitar sing, weep, scream and everything in between. I haven’t really seen that kind of range from Yngwie.

I have listened to a good portion of his stuff, although not all of it. It’s just not my kind of music, but he clearly speaks to a lot of people and is a great inspiration to many. He has my respect for sure, just not my ear if that makes sense.
This made me think of the Wayne’s World scene where Garth plays the insane drum solo at the music shop and the stoner comes up to say, “Dude, that…was…AWESOME!” “I like to play.”

@@rushpittsburgh4 His hearing is pretty much gone after years of standing in front of dozens of cranked Plexi's. And since he's started to mix his albums himself they sound like shit too. Too big of an ego to admit he needs a producer for his albums and should listen to his sound guys on stage... Still plays great though and he still writes catchy tunes. If you listen to old albums or live shows his tone was absolutely fantastic, pretty much what I try to get out of my amps, kinda like Hendrix but more sustain yet still very clean and nuanced. Basically put a Plexi through an attenuator (if you have neighbors and want to keep your hearing) and push it with an overdrive pedal, mids and treble most of the way up and bass rolled back a little.
