You're right! They missed an opportunity with "Great Western Trail", "Great Southern Trail", "Great Eastern Trail", and "Great Northern Trail"

Oh my gosh. Now they have to do a trilogy for each of the compass directions :)

Just found your channel! Amazing work on this video! Thank you so much. New Zealand is my favorite version, but I have heard they are all worth a spot in many People's collection.

I do not have a Great Western Trail experience as I have never played one of the games. But I have a pointless Great Western Trail story, as I had a dream last night and this is the first video of my subscription feed that is about Great Western Trail, so I guess you're the one who gets to hear it. It was very simple: I dreamed that in order to maximize sales, the publisher went to extreme lengths to cut costs. The board was white with just black outlines/text, and the whole package was wrapped in cellophane. I'm pretty sure they were selling it for $20. And I thought "Only $20? Sure, it doesn't have all the art and box and stuff, but it's probably worth $20 just to have a Great Western Trail experience" and that was the whole of my dream.

I've watched three GWT New Zealand reviews in a row and each reviewer has said this one is more focused on deckbuilding and it is really hard to cull your deck. Culling is part of the deckbuilding process and should nit be made so difficult. I'm surprised I haven't heard more about variants and house rules to help remove cards. I've never played GWT because the length always scared me off. I'm going to try New Zealand because someone suggested ways to shorten the game.

You probably don't need to cull your deck as much in this one as the cards bounce off each other as you trigger their effect then draw a replacement one. :) But yes, not much in the way of culling.

I'd put Argentina in a dead heat with the base game and New Zealand takes the prize. Argentina -- I really like the shipping board but I despise the help the farmers with boomerangs thing. It makes no sense at all to me. The base game always felt cold and hostile to players, a real chore to like. It's sometimes enjoyable but many times just an agony. New Zealand wins by a landslide as the best for me. The aggravation of the entire series is the huge starter deck. At 14 cards, it's just ridiculous. 12 would be manageable. 14 feels like what... designer arrogance, maybe? I've been gaming modern stuff for 8 years and have played my share of dense, rules heavy games. GWT's 14 card deck sticks out in my mind as one of the biggest slaps in the face to players, insulting you with more difficulty in what is already a 100 meter hurdle race you're running with sandbags attached to your legs. But anyway... NZ rocks.

ooh. I like them for different reasons!... maybe the og + expansion actually. Less set up of the decks..
But the new cards and tweaks in NZ just make the game feel more gamery
