- diagnosing a diesel particulate filter differential pressure sensor
1: check voltage supply at plug.
2: check hoses to DPF from the sensor for leaks.
3: with the sensor connected, apply pressure to see if live data reading is working.
we use a Autool smoke leak detector for leak tests.
Autel MK906BT for diagnostic tests.
MityVac for pressure testing the sensor.

Good job dude nice to see someone actually diagnosing instead of firing the parts cannon also some mercs had a service bulletin about changing the connector on the dpf pressure sensor for poor connection there's a pigtail plug available from mb I changed a few when I worked there.
You just saved me €700 from a new dpf it was the sensor keep up the great work👍🏻

Usually there is a failure code reporting a short to ground on the sensor, it is extremely useful to be able to read this out yourself.
Literally just done this with a cheap OBD2 reader and hopefully ordered the correct new sensor. Spent £1700 last year due to DPF related issues fowling up the turbo and exhaust system - hopefully this will fix it 🤞

Thanks for the video very helpful. I have just carried out the same test on my Kia 1.6crdi and my pressure sensor signal wire reads 0.00 at idle and with engine @ 3000rpm.
The power wire is fine @ 5v and the ground is also fine. Looks like my sensor is faulty?
The reason i checked this is my dpf never seems to regen even after 2k miles.
Great video i always like to check the old part myself but 9 times out of 10 i haven't got the right tools to test it,got a sprinter van at the moment thats got a reading of -47hpa on star scanner checked it last night but haven't got mightyvac to test it,any idea why its minus reading? thanks

Been watching a few of your videos lately, hope I can get your opinion here… I am a home mechanic with a 2009 Audi A6 3.0tdi, 293k km, no mods other than a simple remap from a known good tuner: P242F stored, can be deleted but comes back in no time. No other faults stored. Been smelling exhaust fumes for a while now, but can’t find an exhaust leak. Exhaust tips still clean as a whistle, high fuel consumption (9,5L/100km) but no change in power.
What do you think, best scenario split dpf sensor hoses? Or a worst scenario clogged dpf causing backpressure causing gasses to escape pre-dpf past a gasket?

Hi there this is a very helpful video. I’ve got a Astra 2.0 cdti A20DTH 13plate, my dpf sensor is reading 0.41v at idle but also 97kpa ? My reader isn’t picking up any errors and car drives fine. Could it be that sensor voltage is normal but it’s been replaced at some point but not relearnt via diagnostic tool? Thanks

I have a question, i have a glk x204 220cdi 2011 and it has 118000km . Today i have changed oil and filters and i have also changed diesel filter . But after that when I completed the service, I went for a try but it seems car have to power and i turn off the car and started again and come engine light on . My obdi shows P2454 dtc sensor A . I thought maybe i just bought the wrong diesel filter and i have removed and installed the old original. But the problem continues.

Can you help me I have a 1.6 tdci diesel Ford Focus it’s had the edr changed out into diagnostics and it came up with glow plugs they’ve been checked there all fine then the mechanic changed around the relay it worked for around 2 min then went straight back into limp mode the light is on and I’m pulling my hair out do you think it needs a new relay switch???? Do you know if it is necessary to reset the ECU once you change the DPF with the scanner or a regeneration to get the new values from the differential pressure probes?. I have to change it for a new one, it is very saturated.

My 2011vwpasst is surging in revs in high gears and when I activate the cruise control, I'm getting codes for secondary air sensor, o2 htr monitor sensor and o2 sensor , could a bad exhaust pressure sensor trigger all these
So will the volts increase or decreasing on the sensor wire? My base voltage is 1.2 and when I add pressure to the small hose the voltage increases. When I add pressure to the large hose voltage decreases.

Is it possible to fool the ECU into thinking that the FAP is installed through the differential sensor?
Are you supposed to be able to blow through the 2 hoses to check for blockages?One on mine is barely passing any air.Can you safely run a wire down them to clean or is there something that maybe damaged.Too hard to remove them as they're at back of engine and hard to get at to unscrew.
Late answer:- I'm pretty sure in some previous videos, Jimmy has a long wire on a drill that he feeds down the hose to help clear it out as it gets bunged up with oil/soot mixture.

I just done today for 2 times the Passive DPF regeneration with the same tool as yours and it came back both times:failed. I have a 2011 mazda 3 2.2 diesel. Do you know why cames back as a failed? Thanks

What about calibration of the new sensor? I found there an option for that but i have to put a min and max value

Could be but check also rubber/metal pipes coming to dpf from sensor as they might be blocked.

Anyone going through DPF clogging issues - I can recommend doing a backpressure test with ISTA software, there are tutorials on youtube. Helps understand how badly clogged the DPF is and also shows the readings of this sensor - if they are the same across the range, sensor is faulty.
For me, turns out the pre-DPF temperature sensor is at fault for regens not happening, showing 7.9 degrees celsius with the engine running - impossible.

I have a 2019 S-max diesel with a P2002 error. Ford says it needs new injectors and a particle filter. Any hints on how to diagnose this, Ford claims it doesn't have a dp sensor.

Hi, I have a mini 2.0 SD and the reading on the Diff Pressure sensor is 342 mbar with ignition on and engine off. A new replacement sensor reads 352 mbar with engine off. Should the pressure read 0 with the engine off? If i disconnect the sensor it reads 299 mbar. Thanks
It should be 0 with ignition on and engine off. Could be your scan tool misreading.
how do you know which wire is signal wire, positive or ground when you connected your multi meter?
Positive would be a steady 5v and signal would fluctuate with revs

My sensor is showing 3000mbar at idle and up to 11000mbar when accelerating. And the dpf is cleaner recently. Just regens often. 100km. I quess its time for new sensor.

@@ORileysAutos I found out that the sensor is correct but icarsoft reader shows it incorrectly. It shows it correct in dpf service menu.
My XC70 2.4 D5 is still showing a DPF sensor reading of 0, sensor all fine. Can’t work it out.
Check the hoses that connect the dpf to the sensor

A dead sensor
plug in the new oxygen sensor or Lambda probe into the car installation connector not built into the Dpf filter that connects it to the car's electrical system and disconnect the cable from the old one that you have built into the Dpf.... A miracle will happen. All errors and lights will go out.. ..The computer in the car, through a clean air sensor, reads a clean air flow without CO2 and turns off every single Error exactly that the same dirty 0xygen sensor reads in the old one that is on the Dpf.....You bypassed the complete system of all sensors and Shit with that move😅
hi iv been looking after my cars for year but this code keeps popping up p245328 the input for the dps 1 in the diesel is faulty the signal offset is outside the permissible range. sensor works fine please heeeeeelp ps its the same car as here

Hi, i have checked my car Audi A3 2016, and it has two seperate sensors next to each other, both have two places for two hoses on each, but only one side is connected on each sensor, both connected on the left hand side, would you know which one is before the DPF to put the DPF cleaner down?. I don't have any errror codes as have scanned the car the first day i got it, but want to know for future refernce and will be travelling a lot of miles after Christmas, thank you best regards
