Good job. Had this myself on a cx130c excavator with isuzu 4jj1 engine. No fault was presented, but went to live data and seen DP not moving. Thanks to your video
This is super handy! I changed my DPF after inspection it was toast , but now keep getting the risk of blockage coming up, looks like a sensor fault! You're a gentleman thanks for putting these videoes out
Good job dude nice to see someone actually diagnosing instead of firing the parts cannon also some mercs had a service bulletin about changing the connector on the dpf pressure sensor for poor connection there's a pigtail plug available from mb I changed a few when I worked there.
Literally just done this with a cheap OBD2 reader and hopefully ordered the correct new sensor. Spent £1700 last year due to DPF related issues fowling up the turbo and exhaust system - hopefully this will fix it 🤞
Thanks for the video very helpful. I have just carried out the same test on my Kia 1.6crdi and my pressure sensor signal wire reads 0.00 at idle and with engine @ 3000rpm. The power wire is fine @ 5v and the ground is also fine. Looks like my sensor is faulty? The reason i checked this is my dpf never seems to regen even after 2k miles.
Thank you for a great video, very educational and useful ,ohh btw hope that exhaust manifold was 'COLD' bcz you placed your multimeter on it ! otherwise it would have melted away 🙂
Been watching a few of your videos lately, hope I can get your opinion here… I am a home mechanic with a 2009 Audi A6 3.0tdi, 293k km, no mods other than a simple remap from a known good tuner: P242F stored, can be deleted but comes back in no time. No other faults stored. Been smelling exhaust fumes for a while now, but can’t find an exhaust leak. Exhaust tips still clean as a whistle, high fuel consumption (9,5L/100km) but no change in power. What do you think, best scenario split dpf sensor hoses? Or a worst scenario clogged dpf causing backpressure causing gasses to escape pre-dpf past a gasket?
I have a zafira b that has had the dpf replaced due to a blockage. No fault codes now but the regen process is constantly starting. Could this be a damaged pressure sensor or maybe the ecu not being reset ? Thanks
Bravo! man you need a head cam so you can use both hands great video! What is that plier called and can you use Pipe Hose Clamp Clips instead of these weird fasteners....
Are you supposed to be able to blow through the 2 hoses to check for blockages? One on mine is barely passing any air.Can you safely run a wire down them to clean or is there something that maybe damaged.Too hard to remove them as they're at back of engine and hard to get at to unscrew.

Hi there this is a very helpful video. I’ve got a Astra 2.0 cdti A20DTH 13plate, my dpf sensor is reading 0.41v at idle but also 97kpa ? My reader isn’t picking up any errors and car drives fine. Could it be that sensor voltage is normal but it’s been replaced at some point but not relearnt via diagnostic tool? Thanks

So will the volts increase or decreasing on the sensor wire? My base voltage is 1.2 and when I add pressure to the small hose the voltage increases. When I add pressure to the large hose voltage decreases.
Do you know if it is necessary to reset the ECU once you change the DPF with the scanner or a regeneration to get the new values from the differential pressure probes?. I have to change it for a new one, it is very saturated.
Great video .. . If say a car IS regenerating but to often can it still be this? Other question..that scan tool u have will it do injectors on a mazda ? Ty in advance
Very good video , you explained very well. I have a question, i have a glk x204 220cdi 2011 and it has 118000km . Today i have changed oil and filters and i have also changed diesel filter . But after that when I completed the service, I went for a try but it seems car have to power and i turn off the car and started again and come engine light on . My obdi shows P2454 dtc sensor A . I thought maybe i just bought the wrong diesel filter and i have removed and installed the old original. But the problem continues. Can you please help me ? Thanks
It is a dpf differential pressure sensor. It compares the pressure of one side to the other. If he put pressure to both sides it would read zero as both sides would be the same pressure but by putting pressure to one side (manifold side) he is comparing the reading of the increased pressure on one side to atmospheric pressure on the other. Although saying that he could probably have tried pulling a vacuum on the other side (exhaust side) as an additional check as well but honestly I don't think it would have been necessary.
Can you help me I have a 1.6 tdci diesel Ford Focus it’s had the edr changed out into diagnostics and it came up with glow plugs they’ve been checked there all fine then the mechanic changed around the relay it worked for around 2 min then went straight back into limp mode the light is on and I’m pulling my hair out do you think it needs a new relay switch???? I hope you can give me some advice Thankyou Adam
No it is a dpf differential pressure sensor. It works by comparing the pressure on both sides of the dpf (hens two pipes). If there is equal pressure on both sides then the sensor will read zero but if the dpf is restricted the reading would be high as the pressure on the engine side of the dpf would be higher than that on the other side. This is how the car knows how much soot is in the dpf. Also if the sensor picks up the dpf differential pressure is too low it could indicate the dpf internal structure has failed. If this is the case you would usually find black soot within the tailpipe. It is also possible if say you had a block within the exhaust system but not the dpf the sensor would show the pressure to be okay as it is only comparing two points and not the actual exhaust back pressure. I hope this makes sense.
Anyone going through DPF clogging issues - I can recommend doing a backpressure test with ISTA software, there are tutorials on youtube. Helps understand how badly clogged the DPF is and also shows the readings of this sensor - if they are the same across the range, sensor is faulty. For me, turns out the pre-DPF temperature sensor is at fault for regens not happening, showing 7.9 degrees celsius with the engine running - impossible.
