Fixing the DPF differential pressure sensor error

  • My 2010 Audi threw a fit and started complaining about having some issues with error codes about the G450 sensor, #P0473 Exhaust pressure sensor 1 and #P2453 Dieser particle filter differential pressure sensor. After the change I did diesel particulate filter cleaning by enabling VCDS DPF regeneration.
    Apparently the DPF pressure sensor had failed so I regenerated the particle filter and changed the bad sensor. DPF sensor replacement.
    For this fix, a proper diagnostic cable is needed. I used Ross-Tech's VAG-COM HEX+CAN-USB cable and software called #VCDS. Code might also be P2002, part in Germanese is called differenzdrucksensor.

    After clearing the fault code you need to turn the engine off. Just clearing the code removes the engine fault light on dash but the fault may still be there. Start engine & then check whether the fault code is truly gone. Preferable stop/start the engine a couple of times.

    Replaced the DP sensor on my 2010 Volvo V70 a week ago. Volvo wanted around 180 euro for the part, bought a Bosch one from Trodo for 75 euro... Also check the rubber pressure pipes that go to the sensor (at the exhaust and the bit to the sensor) as these tend to perish over time and are cheaper than the sensor itself which may not be faulty.

    Do all exhaust pressure sensors need to be adapted after replacement. I have a 2016 vw tiguan and I might need to replace the sensor (still digging into it). Will I need the computer software to adapt the new sensor? I do not have the software you have, just a fairly basic scanner (Launch Crp129E). Which I dont think has the ability to adapt sensors. Thanks for your video.

    • @nerdaxic
      @nerdaxic  3 года назад +1

      My best guess would be that you are out of luck there and need the proper tool to do the adaptation. Look around on local auction sites etc, there might be one on sale or somebody renting one!
      You can always install one and ask a mechanic to do the software part.

    Hey, can you give me your opinion on mine problem related with this sensor. I got DP sensor fault code like a month ago while doing kickdow on my car with auto transmission, I just got beep beep signal and nothing more, car runs smoothly anyway. After that I went to the mechanic, they just deleted the code and so far so good, no problems at all. They told me that probably dpf was a bit clogged and advised me to go periodically for a bit faster drive in high revs - to help filter cleaning. So, does this makes sense to you? If it really was dp sensor I should get this error again, no matter if they deleted code? Is it possible that this code was received beacuse of partial cloggin of dpf and not really beacuse of failure on sensor?

    • @nerdaxic
      @nerdaxic  3 года назад

      It could be that your dpf was clogged, gave an error and further driving cleaned the filter taking care of the problem. So resetting the code could be the correct fix there.

      If your DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) sensor isn't functioning, your vehicle can't properly determine when to regenerate the filter. This might either lead to the filter not being cleaned - potentially clogging it up - or constant regeneration, which could waste fuel and even damage parts. Given that it's a relatively inexpensive component (around €15), it's advisable to get it fixed before embarking on a long journey.

      Replaced it. Gutted the dpf, cleaned out the EGR oil cooler, remapped it. Only for the pressure sensor to melt again, capped it off. Changed the n75 valve due to under boosting, forgot to blank the EGR. So that’s the next step

      I'm no tech support and usually ignore these - but to me this sounds like the problem isn't fixed. P2002 is a DPF related code, if changing the sensor and few proper regeneration cycles hasn't helped, there is probably some other hardware failure: possibly air-leak or damaged DPF.

      No clue what's going on. Something is busted for sure! I would recommend against disabling the EGR since having it enabled reduces pumping losses and emissions. DPF you can't disable just by software, and removing it is a punishable crime in many countries as it would slowly kill us all. I think a qualified mechanic should be able to find what's wrong with it, such are cars sometimes.

    • @nerdaxic
      @nerdaxic  2 года назад +1

      I believe P2003 is "Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold" which means the DPF is not doing it's job properly. Regeneration might help, but I'm afraid this one might be actual DPF issue instead of sensor issue (which it also could be). Some tube loose or broken somewhere or DPF being clogged. These are just guesses of a medical engineer, I'm no mechanic!

    • @nerdaxic
      @nerdaxic  Год назад +1

      I'd say so. You'll probably get some error code out of it as if the computer thinks there is an issue with DPF, but it can be cleared on the same go. Here the mechanics are super picky, they will only clear codes if they have done the service, which is why I bit the bullet and bought the cable. If thats the case you can ask the mechanic to change the sensor, thats like 5 min job so the bill should not be too much.
