Shockingly, the STOCK B58 block can withstand 1000hp (I think). Despite it built on German parts, it is still over built. edit: there's a very heated argument in the replies and I didn't mention reliable horsepower, i just said the stock block can handle 1000HP, just with some reliability issues
It can’t but… the 2JZ block could withstand 2000+ Hp yk due to it being cast iron. Plus the B58 stock block couldn’t handle much horsepower due to it being aluminum. Most high power stock engine blocks are iron

No, the reason why they did a joint development with BMW is because it’s too expensive to make a new Supra from scratch and it’s not worth the money. Car companies aren’t making profit from car enthusiasts anymore. This was probably the most reasonable solution they had. Businesses have to make money, and spending tons of money to make a car from scratch for what has become a niche is not gonna work. We should be thankful we even got a MK5 Supra.

If Mr. Toyoda himself wasn't running the company at the time the mk4 Supra probably wouldn't have been sold in North America at all, potentially ending LHD production entirely maybe a year or two before the mk3 production ceased. Building sports cars hasn't been a profitable venture for most large companies as well as smaller ones like Nissan who have recently been talking about pulling the plug on future GTR's, pending how sales go with the Z35 (not well...). Toyota is only selling mk5 Supra's to prop up their brand image, because if they make that then maybe some of its bloodline will leak into the GR86 and Corolla GR...right? IMO Toyota hasn't sold a real sports car since the mk2 Supra, Nissan hasn't had one since their S110 and S12 Silvia's or the early 260Z, Mazda's 1st gen RX7 and Mitsubishi hasn't made a real sports car since the Evo 3.
