I was lucky enough to see them in Liverpool when they were touring to promote this, when it first came out as a single. There was probably only about 150 people there and it was an absolutely fucking fantastic gig. And then they wandered around afterwards giving out postcards, badges and stickers, chatting to anybody who wanted to chat. They were lovely chaps.
Here to the end and enjoyed all of it. Thanks for continuing to do Radiohead’s amazing catalogue of work. Are you familiar with Talk Talk’s work? Mark Hollis was the lead for the band (sadly passed away in 2019) and their album Spirit of Eden is considered one of the first in the post-rock genre and was also an influence for Radiohead. A good start would be The Rainbow or I Believe In You. Mark had a beautiful melancholy voice and similar style of singing to Thom’s.
I love that you enjoy his voice- it's usually a major gripe casual listeners have... "I don't get his voice/how he sings" where I'm like...thats one of the best parts!
Love your decomposer breakdowns Geebz. Thank you for giving me something to look forward too during the week. Would be interesting to get your reaction to My Iron Lung, Just or Street Spirit (anything from their album The Bends lol). This is the album released between the songs Creep, Paranoid Android, Karma Police and No Surprises you have previously reviewed.
There's a foundation here as well. You'll hear Jonny's 16ths in the chorus and bridge panned to the right and Ed panned to the left performing the chorus riff. That setup has pretty much gone forward onto most of their engineering. It makes sense when you're trying to separate 2-3 guitarists!
this is my first time here but i subbed just for the information you give, its so different than a lot of channels i usually watch, you defo know the in's and out's of music i just thought this was going to be a normal reaction where the guy says at the end that it was good and he liked it lol this is much better and more interesting.
Every time you post a Radiohead reaction video it makes me so happy, because I can vicariously listen for the first time. Would love to see your reaction to "Daydreaming", especially as a counterpoint to "Creep". Creep is from their first album and Daydreaming their most recent. Both tracks are emotionally impactful but you can really get a sense of how much the band has grown and matured, and how they bring the emotion across has really bloomed into something beautiful.
It's not so much that more straightforward, radio-friendly Radiohead is bad, but they really perfected it on the next album (The Bends). From that album, I recommend "Fake Plastic Trees" most highly.
When I hear this song the first words that comes to my mind is Cozy and warm. I feel like I’m sitting in the center of a small recording studio sitting right in the middle of it all!
Love what you do Geebz. I'm a percussionist myself and one of the first things my high school jazz band rhythm section instructor taught us was "less is more".
Really enjoying seeing a fresh and knowledgable perspective on my favourite band, thank you. Lots of suggestions, I know. Have to second Bloom, Weird fishes, Codex, Nude, Reckoner, Let Down and There, There but also going to add Give up the Ghost (from the basement version) as just one their most beautiful.
Dude! Learning so much! Thank you soo much! And learning in a way that expands my 'pure' listening experience. Noticing more, hearing more… not just on the songs you’re playing but in the rest of my listening too… wonderful!
i really love your radiohead videos, they’re my favourite band and this is the song that introduced me to them. of course this is no longer my favourite song, there’s so many others, but it’s still close to my heart. i’d really like it if one day you had a look at some of their lyrics too - they’re pure poetry, just completely beautiful, and one of their strongest areas (which is saying a lot, seeing as all their areas of composition are so strong)
The band grew to resent this song's commercial success which they referenced in My Iron Lung off their follow up album The Bends: "This/this is our new song/just like the last one/a total waste of time...."
Love the channel Geebz! Your breakdown of "How to disappear completely" was beautiful. I hope you have a chance to continue to explore Radiohead. As people have suggested "In Rainbows", I will throw in "A Moon Shaped Pool", as great places to go next. Both are powerhouses in composition. All the best moving forward!
I just watched the Pyramid Song reaction again. I loved the way your musical ear managed to lock into the unusual time signatures. It made me wonder how you would react to some prog rock - Supper’s Ready by Genesis or Close to the Edge by Yes for example. These videos will be 30+ minutes long 😂
Hey Geebz, really enjoy your videos. Always good to see humble, honest sincerity in a review / decomposition. Classy indeed. Also, I would strongly suggest Dollars and Cents from Amnesiac, amazing Radiohead track. In any respect, thanks for your work, and keep them coming :)
Hey mister. This was my first react-video on your channel and did just three more. Great choice of music and, as a musician it's awesome to hear your thoughts as a composer. Keep it up.
I love to watch your decomposing so much, because you focus so often on guitar and bass. I don´t for some reason. I only hear drums and vocals and then some sound around that. Especially bass is something I never actively hear. That is why it is so nice to watch your videos, because I get to discover parts in songs I actually know for years, but haven´t consciously heard certain details. But until this day, I have to actively search for the bass in every song. Don´t know why.
Pls consider doing Radiohead "2+2=5" or "There, There", both off of "Hail to the Thief." It was their "return to rock" after their sojourn into electronic music, but you can hear all the influences of their electronic work in it. They both have interesting time signatures or chord structures.
"Creep" and "Smells like Teen Spirit" are arguably the two songs that defined the direction of music in the early 90s. Both fantastic in their own right, and both so wildly popular and they got played to death. And Creep has also been covered to death, but one of the more notable that's worth experiencing is Tori Amos live cover.
To me the best cover of this song is Postmodern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhardt. Different but just as good as the original. Feel free to disagree if you've listened to that one.
How have I never heard that piano at the end before??!! I've been listening to this song since it's release. This is why I love your breakdowns of these songs Geebz because I hear them from a slightly different perspective.
"But im a creep. I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here. I don't belong here" The band almost never play this live and didn't played it for a long time. 10:50 a lot of stuff i suggest are singers like that. Like incubus - aqueous transmission.
For whatever reason, I've always listened to vocals like an instrument and rarely pay attention to what they are actually singing. For me, it's all about note selection, sound of their voice, and the passion in the performance. Thom Yorke definitely sits in my top 5 as far as vocalists go. That big note he hits in this song's climax gives me goosebumps every time.
I know it seems like nothing now, but when I was like 12(?), that chugg coming in after the smooth ethereal intro...life changing to me. They perfected this later on tracks like paranoid android, but before this, it was like unheard of on the radio and mtv. This song really defined the 90s for me and really my music influences for the rest of my life. Truly groundbreaking even though the song is played the fuck out now. They even covered this song in a kids movie LOL
I'd also love to see how you like "In Rainbows". It released as a free album a little more than a decade ago, but the effects it had on modern psychedelia are still being felt today.
Such a great album. They actually self released it as a pay-what-you-want. Free if that's what you felt it was worth, haha. They still made more revenue off that record when compared to sales from their major label releases.
I'm not sure I've seen anyone suggest Life in a Glass House, but I really suggest it because I think it would be right up your alley. Especially the "full length version" that was released as part of a single.
Radiohead just bring so much emotion, it's a joy to listen to, even though many tracks are heavy. I would love to see you react to free spirit (fade out) by them. Enlightening as always jeebz
I like how he smiled a nodded when Thom sang "Run". Despite is not being the same vibe that the band eventually becomes, that's the moment of the song when you are reminded 'This definitely is a Radiohead song'.
Another great reaction/breakdown! Thanks! While I'm here, I got a suggestion. I was recently reminded about Spineshank's awesome cover of The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps. So far, I can't find anyone reacting to that, and I think you're probably THE ONE best suited to do it justice. Best wishes!
Insane insight. Your presentation and analysis help me understand and apply it to my tracks! I agree with listening to vocals as an instrument first and then to the lyrics, as these are two different processes when making music. Keep it going, older brother!
Aaahhhh!!! You see!!! You just proved my point about how awesome you are. I just finished the video and you commented on that really cool bass at the end. I love little things like that in songs and I love when you point them out. Makes me feel like I’m not the only one who loves the smallest of things that just stand out in a song or makes the song or whatever just these cool little phrases here or there that just add a little something. Keep up the great work my friend!
Hello again from Australia Geebz, love your work as always mate. Awesome! Also, this is just your friendly reminder you should check out Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out). It’s their greatest piece in my opinion. Keep it up mate ♥️
Thanks for the Radiohead! I think you might appreciate some of their newer songs like Daydreaming and Decks Dark from A Moon Shaped Pool. Beautifully composed songs (in my non-musician opinion). Decks Dark incorporates a beautiful choral element and Daydreaming has some strings, some piano loops. Lovely songs.
This has become one of my defacto music channels, just to see your dives and what you'll get from it. Much appreciation for your work. It's interesting to hear in particular your notes on Thoms voice, as it's basically the only constant in the band's sound (even when reportedly he didn't really want it there), although if you fancy a different tonality I'd recommend giving a listen to "A Wolf at the Door" from Hail to the Thief, in which he uses it in quite a fun way.
Another really good Radiohead song that is seemingly straightforward is the song "Just". Interesting tidbit. It's tuned 1/4 a step up from E. One fourth, haha. And also my mandatory plug, A Perfect Circle - The Outsider :P I love your videos.
I’m still here! I really enjoyed watching the surprise and joy wash over you during this decomposition. Looking forward to more videos as always. This was especially satisfying to me - Radiohead is one of the bands that changed my life and continues to be part of the soundtrack of my life. Good one Geebz
A Moon Shaped Pool it's such a beautiful album that its entire worldbuilding deserves an entire and continuous reaction. If you someday want to start doing that sort of thing I hope you listen to AMSP in that way. Thanks for your time sharing with us your knowledge.
i'm not sure if it's been mentioned in the comments on any of the radiohead songs but their guitarist Johnny Greenwood is actually a composer and has scored several movies including there will be blood. there are a couple good videos on here talking about his influences that are worth checking out
I think you could literally only react to Radiohead and we'd all be in awe of your breakdowns. I've been listening to Radiohead since Pablo Honey and you manage to show me things I've never heard. Keep it up! I've recommend "Reckoner" from In Rainbows.
I have been enjoying Radiohead for almost 30 years now, but this channel has given me a whole new appreciation for the genius of my favorite band. I think their best albums are In Rainbows and OK Computer, followed closely by The Bends and Kid A. But it’s hard to compare. You have covered some good ones. I would recommend Reckoner, Nude, Weird Fishes or 15 Step from In Rainbows (especially Reckoner and Nude), Street Spirit or Fake Plastic Trees from The Bends, Exit Music from OK Computer, The National Anthem from Kid A, or Burn the Witch from A Moon Shaped Pool. It would be really cool to see you break down a live performance. Radiohead’s From the Basement performance of In Rainbows is otherworldly.
Recently subbed, this is by far one of THE best channels iv ever seen. I love the way you dissect the music and just absorb what's going on. Thank you so much for the content.
I heard that the distorted bit was added later by the guitarist who wasn't pleased with how the song turned out. It really makes the song. He has such a perfect taste and sensitivity.
My recommendation is a really moving but at the surface to me, a very simple song. It’s “I Promise” off of their remastered version of “Ok Computer”. A very powerful song, hopefully you can give it a listen. Also I noticed your decomposition of “Lift” isn’t listed in the Radiohead playlist! Thanks for all of your awesome videos!!
I scrolled back through your reactions and found Creep. Love that song. I want to introduce you to a new group, Post Modern Jukebox. Scott Bradlee, the piano player, composer and arranger, takes modern pop/rock music and transforms them into 40s, 50s, 60s sounds. You must check out Post Modern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhart doing Creep by Radiohead or Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. They will blow you away.
I'd really like to see you break down Motion Picture Soundtrack by Radiohead. That song is a really interesting one and one of my favorites!
also… PJ Harvey’s “This Mess We’re In” features Thom Yorke… beautiful vocal arrangement
Speaking of Polly Jean: her song “Memphis” in tribute to Jeff Buckley (20 years ago already!) is gorgeous. React, or just give a listen.
Definitely. One of my favourite vocal performances from Thom and one of my favourite collaborations he's done.
This is my FAVORITE Radiohead song!! This is multigenerational because it can/does apply to almost everyone at some ponit in their lives.
Watching you react to songs like creep gives me a glow akin to the teenager hearing it back in the 90s. Thank you mate .
I second each and all of these recommendations
Yes, "Just", but without the video... it's too distracting. 😁
Second that also, but don't forget "There There"
There's a foundation here as well. You'll hear Jonny's 16ths in the chorus and bridge panned to the right and Ed panned to the left performing the chorus riff. That setup has pretty much gone forward onto most of their engineering. It makes sense when you're trying to separate 2-3 guitarists!
My favorite band.... I never get tired of CREEP. Ill be here when you do Radiohead.... Every time...theres so much to go through with this band!
this is my first time here but i subbed just for the information you give, its so different than a lot of channels i usually watch, you defo know the in's and out's of music i just thought this was going to be a normal reaction where the guy says at the end that it was good and he liked it lol this is much better and more interesting.
Thank you Martyn!
First bar into the song and I’m already in tears. Such a beautifully written song.
I also like Planet Telex a lot, but fake plastic trees is more indicative of where the band's artistic energy is at
Street spirit
I'm down for a nice juicy 2 hour full album dissection of The Bends, definitely no bias here.
@@CaelenSawyers I would kill for that
More of an Iron Lung man meself
Always loved Radiohead but your breakdowns of their songs have really helped me learn to truly appreciate them
All I need is a must! Definitely recommend the live studio version. It’s an amazing experience!
thom yorke is one of the best performers today, his live performances are incredible.
Yes! Great stuff! Roads by Portishead please sir 🤞
Oooooo, I also hope Portishead is explored. The Rip would also be a good one.
@@JustinRittenhouse I think they would be right up @key of Geebz street 👍
Yes, please. And Nick Cave.
+1 for Portishead.
Don´t know why.
that guitar chug noise.. 😍 cheers Mr Geebz. love your stuff. don't ever stop 👍
Pls consider doing Radiohead "2+2=5" or "There, There", both off of "Hail to the Thief."
It was their "return to rock" after their sojourn into electronic music, but you can hear all the influences of their electronic work in it. They both have interesting time signatures or chord structures.
Hail to the Theif is one of the most underrated albums in existence! "Go To Sleep" another GREAT track
Hail to the thief has some bangers, Myxamatosis and A wolf at the door are 2 of my favourite RH songs
I love the initial chug of the guitar!! Sounds like Thunder.
Oh boy. The fans are going to have a field day with this one
Yeah... Excited to see Radiohead, then disappointed it wasn't daydreaming, or anything other than something from Pablo Honey.
It never wasn't an AMAZING song! :D
Controversial opinion but Pablo Honey is way under rated. Is it their best? No. But it is a killer album
@@el-violador it's a great album
It’s fucking annoying because everyone and their mother reacts to Creep and now we have to wait another month for an actual great Radiohead song smh.
I never understood the love for either song, Creep especially. can't stand them.
Only for mainstreamers
To me the best cover of this song is Postmodern Jukebox featuring Haley Reinhardt. Different but just as good as the original. Feel free to disagree if you've listened to that one.
@@dodgrblu a lot of people identify with creep on a personal level. I mean just listen to the words.
Teen spirit now, idk.
@@Constipatedoverlord yes those lyrics would relate to my life too. but that doesn't make it a good piece of music.
I remember Johnny Greenwood (lead guitarist) used to wear a wrist brace for doing this crazy pattern
How have I never heard that piano at the end before??!! I've been listening to this song since it's release. This is why I love your breakdowns of these songs Geebz because I hear them from a slightly different perspective.
Your reaction when the distorted guitars come in is priceless. Thanks for the video.
Love Radiohead. Would be great if you did some Foals too. Spanish Sahara would be incredible.
This
"But im a creep. I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here. I don't belong here" The band almost never play this live and didn't played it for a long time. 10:50 a lot of stuff i suggest are singers like that. Like incubus - aqueous transmission.
That's not true.... They play his all the time! 2016 Austin Texas I saw this song performed.... Search youtube you'll see...
@@veevamm3642 1997-2016 they almost never played it

YES! AQUEOUS TRANSMISSION!
@@MrGreendayzed fair enough! after that, RH seems to have picked it back up and its amazeballs....
@@starrlewis4646 I'm trying to get him to listen to it since he's a surfer dude. And he talks about how he likes sting arrangements.
i would absolutely LOVE to hear what you think of weird fishes/arpeggi or motion picture soundtrack by radiohead, big fan of the channel
much love
I'd like to hear your take on some Massive Attack on here. Not heard it here before, and they have some awesome songs.
Bristols finest! OTIB
Weird Fishes & You’re All I Need are beautiful tracks from Radiohead’s perfect In Rainbows album. Such incredible musicians.
You have to check out the live version on you tube he really let's loose in the bridge with the falsetto!
G B C Cm -- rinse and repeat. Great chord progression and I'll stand by it.
Radiohead’s “blow out” is definitely one to check out. That track just foreshadows where they would go and evolve.
agreed!
Geebz, that’s so cool you said you did a little bump and received a cup of coffee while I also just did a little bump too! What a coincidence
I really enjoy your channel and knowledge, I love Radiohead. Would like to see what you think about Jigsaw falling into place.
Excited for you to experience Weird Fishes/Arpeggio to satiate that arrangement thirst. Recommend the version from Live From The Basement.
Another really good Radiohead song that is seemingly straightforward is the song "Just". Interesting tidbit. It's tuned 1/4 a step up from E. One fourth, haha.
And also my mandatory plug, A Perfect Circle - The Outsider :P
I love your videos.
I’m still here! I really enjoyed watching the surprise and joy wash over you during this decomposition. Looking forward to more videos as always. This was especially satisfying to me - Radiohead is one of the bands that changed my life and continues to be part of the soundtrack of my life. Good one Geebz
Great breakdown! Anything from In Rainbows or A Moon Shaped Pool would be fun
A Moon Shaped Pool it's such a beautiful album that its entire worldbuilding deserves an entire and continuous reaction. If you someday want to start doing that sort of thing I hope you listen to AMSP in that way. Thanks for your time sharing with us your knowledge.
Pleeeeease do “Fake Plastic Trees”
i'm not sure if it's been mentioned in the comments on any of the radiohead songs but their guitarist Johnny Greenwood is actually a composer and has scored several movies including there will be blood. there are a couple good videos on here talking about his influences that are worth checking out
I think you could literally only react to Radiohead and we'd all be in awe of your breakdowns. I've been listening to Radiohead since Pablo Honey and you manage to show me things I've never heard. Keep it up!
I've recommend "Reckoner" from In Rainbows.
Can I suggest you listen to Nick Cave. Start with Red Right Hand. Great musical storytelling
Oh yes yes yes
Great song.
Would be good to see this
Part of me wanted to suggest Stagger Lee 😂
@@steveharbour845 The whole of Murder Ballads, really.
I'm pretty sure we were all anticipating what face he would make around 3:10
Gosh I sure do dig you! Your just brilliant!
I love how you described the drums in the beginning through production. They sorta make you want to check your house.
A classic and a must have song in your life and Korn also covers this one also a great listen!
Please take a look at Climbing up the walls by Radiohead. So much happening in that one, including some screaming 😁
Recently subbed, this is by far one of THE best channels iv ever seen. I love the way you dissect the music and just absorb what's going on. Thank you so much for the content.
Favorite Radiohead song is "Lucky" off OK Computer. Just a great, dark tune
They record most of their videos in small studios using a single camera with no cuts and very little production on the back end.
