Hello, thank you for your video. Sorry but i dont understand everything. I thought that the 2019 version of the vektron was already the second version of the bike (the positioning of the battery changed). So the 2020 version would be the third version and not the second one. I'm confused.
Or maybe it is the same one? it has been released in 2019 in europe and in 2020 in Australia?

The Gen 2 version was released in 2019 and carried through 2020 unchanged. This video was released in 2020 hence the “2020” tag.

Old motors... there on Gen 4 now

Different bike manufacturers roll out the new motors on different schedules. It is true that Gen 4 motors are available but that doesn’t mean that all bikes manufactured now will be fitted with them. Manufacturers will wait until the bike model changes to engineer in the new motors.

Given its cost the S10 deserves a better motor. Otherwise, it looks like an excellent bike.

@Johnny Mac this Gen 3 is actually really good. Bosch’s bigger motors have 60Nm (Performance) and 75Nm (Performance CX). Typically they are paired with bikes with 650, 29” or 28” wheels. The Vektron is running on 20” wheels so this acts as a torque multiplier. Consequently it feels like one of the bigger motors. Having ridden it up to Mt Kosciuszko, which is pretty steep, I can vouch for it’s strength. The really good thing about the Gen 3 motors is that they are a simpler design with less moving parts, less internal gearing and as such they feel more like a normal bike when they are ridden without power. This is especially noticeable when travelling at a speed greater than 25km/h when the power automatically cuts out. With the older motors, like on the previous Vektron, it felt like hitting a wall when the motor cut out above 25km/h. Having said all of that, I’d never say no to more torque! But in this case it seems more than adequate and it was a whole lot easier riding this bike up the mountain than the previous model.
The new HSD can be optioned with one of the higher torque motors.
      Thanks for your comments
      Andrew

@@FormanddesignAu Thank you for that detailed reply. I will take it on board. The similarly priced R & M Tinker has 75 nm of torque. Personally I prefer the look of the Vektron S10. I am in Belfast, N. Ireland and the Vektrons are at last available here at Chain Reaction Cycles.

@Johnny Mac The R&M Tinker is a great bike. I used to sell them and had one as my personal bike for a while. If you like something from TERN that is closer to the Tinker then have a look at the HSD. It has a similar specification to the Tinker and also has front suspension. Like the Tinker the HSD doesn't fold.
Which brings me back to the Vektron. It folds and the video I did taking it to Mt Kosciuszko proves that you don't really need the 75Nm of Torque. Thanks for your comments and support.

@@FormanddesignAu I will have a look at the HSD once this coronavirus crisis has eased. It retails at about £300 more than the S10 over here. Thank you for your helpful suggestions.
