I bought that exact same Jensen. It took 3 months for audio to vanish from one ear. Granted, you could still plug headphones into line out, however there was no volume control.

Great video! Before you trash it, it might be interesting to look inside at the gears/belts and see how build quality to compares to the classic Walkman.

ACBMemp The Modern Chinese Cassette Mechanisms are the Same as the Old Ones. They make millions of these cassette Mechanisms so they would change them if there was a Problem with Them !!! I record a Graphic Equalized Recording through Bluetooth which makes a Really Good Sound . Then I don't have to carry my Phone around, just a Walkman and DJ Monitor Headphones, or a Bluetooth Speaker !!!

Out of Curiosity. What do you think of my Panasonic RQ-SW99V?
It still works and it not scratched up or anything.
But aging none the less, I just wish I kept it in a safer environment. That reminds me. I still to this day can't get over the ability of this device, and it has auto-reverse, and it only uses 1 AA battery. It is a marvel for its age.

They are amazing, I believe if a company made something like it today it would be a hit. As long as weight and footprint was the same. This thing is tiny.

Tips for buying classic Walkmans : Avoid buying the ones with soft touch/ feather touch controls as these would be invariably having carbon deposits and spares of the contact parts are extinct. Prefer going for which have dimple mechanical operating buttons .

From my experience with these modern tape players (as someone that only very recently got into tapes), the SRC-75 isn't great, but it's hard to really argue with something that is usually sold for under $20 (this one was a limited-edition color, so that's probably why it was 5 dollars more than usual). Most tape players in that price range in this day and age are really poor mono units with their dictation abilities stripped out, so this is pretty decent compared to that lot of utter crap.
Personally, if people are getting in to tapes as of today, the cheapest option that could probably do better than this would be the Tomashi F-113. Also not amazing (at least compared to a on-brand Walkman), but its overall sound quality puts the SRC-75 to shame if I'm honest. Really good with the bass in particular. On top of that, it's merely 10 dollars more than this. Not to mention it also has a rewind capability, and the ability to record (though, it isn't great).

Did you even try to adjust the azimuth?? That can make it night and day

No I didn't. I took it out of the box and put a tape in it, just like a newbie would. Since this product isn't aimed at people with something better, I tested it like someone new to cassettes would. The wow and flutter was pretty bad too, so it wasn't worth messing with in my eyes.

Every possible expense has been spared - is it even a Tanashin mech?

Yeah most of the new ones are crap. The only one I’ve come across that’s good are the We are rewind that I bought. But it’s too pricey too the point of not worth it. Just a thought: Could it be that having both the earphones and the line out plugged in at the same time is not helping the sound quality? My old Aiwa sure doesn’t like that.

I tried that with no change in quality. As a side note, the headphone connection was very poor. Static and crackling if the headphone plug was moved.

I've bought a lot of cassette players and recorders because I don't want to carry a Phone around with me. So I use a Bluetooth Cassette Recorder to Record Really Good Graphic Equalised Recordings. The Old Sony and Other Walkmans were Rubbish back in the 1980s. The New Ones Sound Really Good played through a Bluetooth Speaker. The Big Problem is they Put Loads of Oil and Grease in. The Chinese Walkmans. I think they Soak the Rubber Pinch Rollers in Oil as Well !!! But using Cotton Buds with Alchohol Cleaner to clean the Belts, and a Cotton Bud dipped in Water to remove all the Black Muck from the Pinch Roller, they Run Properly. The Speed Controls are Easy to Adjust. On the Walkmans there is a little hole on the Back of the Player. The bigger Radio Cassettes have a Hole in the Battery Compartment with some foam rubber in it. The adjustment goes on to the Motor, so that's Easy as Well !!! I bought dozens of Cassette Players years ago. I threw them away when they broke down because they were cheap to buy and they were hardly worth bothering to fix them !!! I wouldn't spend a hundred pounds on an Ancient Sony Walkman !!! Once you know how to adjust these Chinese Cassette Players, I think they are Really Good !!! And with a Good Quality Bass Enhanced Recording they sound good as Well !!! ( I have about 10 cassette Players.) 4 Bluetooth Walkmans, 3 Boom Boxes and 3 Radio Cassette Recorders. And a n MP3 converter Walkman. The MP3 Converter needs a Computer because you Can't Erase any Tracks by just using the Cassette Player. So I just use it as a normal Walkman !!! I use full Size DJ Monitoring Headphones or Bluetooth Speaker. Sometimes I connect a Bluetooth Speaker Using the Aux Connector. Some Walkmans have Bluetooth in, which is Useless. But most have Bluetooth Out so you can Link it with a Bluetooth Speaker !!! Then it Sounds Really Good !!!

At least it's stereo. Many new players that came out of China are actually mono which is worse.

The reason why it's hard to find cheap good cassette players is because the technology is dead and there's no reason to make the chips and sensors that decode the cassettes making them more expensive as they're not mass produced

    • @VintageElectronicsChannel
      @VintageElectronicsChannel  8 месяцев назад +1

I agree with that. I do believe they could still make these acceptable by making the mechanism itself more robust. A metal flywheel would make a world of difference.

@@VintageElectronicsChannel I’m having some old Sony that are working perfectly well and sound good. I always advise to buy a second hand. And Replace the belt if needed. I can’t stand influencers that are « advising » for those « new walkmans » to feel the cassettes experience. They are just pay to be dishonest to their audience.

As a fellow GenX-er, I do it purely for nostalgic reasons. I love the physical connection with media. Streaming doesn't feel the same for me.
