I love how the strip is too short to make a music video out of so they keep cutting back to the same thing over and over. I lose my shit whenever "I'M USING THE CAT BRUSH" starts getting mixed into the song.
He made every single fucking video on this channel before January the 14th of 2008 and uploaded them all on the same day. What a God. These are all difficult edits to do, especially more so back then.
and now they did it again, some of the videos they just uploaded seem to be 6 or 7 years old, all being stockpiled up over all these years, and all with production value that blows these older videos away. these people are fucking legends
Sometimes the underlying dark themes of Davis' comic strip Garfield are underplayed when the strip is presented in popular media, lasangacat makes no such mistake in their recreation of the famous 4/08/98 strip. The angst and pain of Jon using a cat brush instead of a hair brush is brilliantly captured by lasagnacat's usage of the popular emo anthem "Head Like a Hole" by Ohio recording artists Nine Inch Nails.
The themes and symbology here are very layered and complex. Central to them of course, is the cat brush itself- a tortiseshell color (which is also a breed of cat as well, further deepening the analogy) and one traditionally associated with wealth and privilege from previous eras, but now reduced to a mere tool of the bourgeoisie fit only for animals. The video flashes between shots of Jon, in existential agony and his eyes completely obscured, implying a state of soullessness or disconnection from God. Superimposed are shots of the cat brush suspended in the air- suspended, one could say, with unknowing or an inability to accept its circumstances, much like Jon himself. Jon's terror is not of contamination by the brush itself, but of a far greater fear- that there is no distinction between he, a man, and Garfield, a mere beast, or indeed between a beast and a simple object. The harsh notes of the soundtrack emphasize Jon's rejection of the concept of the Almighty in the face of such a contradiction- for if a man is nothing more than an animate cat brush, what need is there for God?
A five-star rating for seeing "GARFIELD" scrawled in red on someone's chest alone. Also, for a second you'd swear this actually was an industrial rock video.
Watching this, I have to wonder how Lasagnacat came up with the idea for this sketch in the first place. I don't see how you make the jump from a mundane comic about a hairbrush to a hilariously over-the-top and moody music video featuring a Nine Inch Nails song. Like, this is probably my favorite video on the channel, but I just have trouble imagining the sort of thought process that would lead to this conclusion. How do you come up with the visual of Jon Arbuckle with no shirt on and "GARFIELD" smeared on his bare chest in blood? It's so specific and bizarre that I'm not sure we'll ever fully understand what the creator's motive was. Lasagnacat videos are perfect in its ambiguity.
The visuals are mostly references to the music video for 'Closer' by NIN, where Trent Reznor is topless in parts. I think the bloody chest and crows are just for extra "gothness" I suppose. Or maybe references to other NIN music videos. Been a while since I've watched any
@@DZrache I get that it's a send-up to NIN, I'm more just trying to imagine how someone came up with an idea like this in the first place while looking at the original comic strip. I guess they just studied it for several hours and abruptly thought "I should make a parody of the video for Closer based off this."
Damn it. Now I've watched all of them on youTube. It's going to be really hard/impossible to find anything that's anywhere near as consistently awesome as these videos.
I've seen almost all of the Lasagnacat videos and this is by far my favorite due to Goth Garfield staring at the camera and the NIN video-like editing.
between this, garfield - garfield, and realfield there's been many amazing things done in the medium of garfield. gazorpazorpfield may take the cake, though.
For some reason when I watch this video my side bar recommendations fill up with stuff about David Lynch, like "David Lynch smoking and listening to rain while reflecting on art for an hour" or "David Lynch being a madman for 8 minutes straight" yet I haven't ever, to my recollection, watched a video about David Lynch on this platform, and I don't think I've even looked up anything related to a film he made on here in a long time. It's just odd.
this video kinda makes me reflect on my life and how society has raised me ya' know?...are we all as vulnerable as jon? why do we as human beings make mistakes like this that so drastically move us....and yet not know that someone, somewhere is using our toothbrush without our own knowledge of it...wow...thank you jim davis...you've opened my eyes and the eyes of all the generations to come
These Garfield videos along with Chad Vader are among the best reasons for youtube to exist, to showcase people like you who possess such awesome talent! Great work!
You think its reached its peak and then the crows happen.

Lynch was inspired by LasagnaCat to become a filmmaker. His films explore many of the themes first explored in fiction by the Flabby Tabby.
